    From @kevinferguson493 "make LTE your preferred connection instead of 5g" this has helped make the signal more consistent for Kevin's Pixel 7.

    Sounds about right. If you're having signal issues and the primary use is phone calls and staying connected. Then the phone is unreliable and you NEED to move on. Signal strength cell/wifi just isn't a very well covered subject that definitely should get more attention.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea, plus hearing about Google's history with delivering on promises to fix issues, I really didn't want to keep this phone and risk it. It is strange that there isn't much coverage about the issue. Maybe it only affects a small percentage of people? All reviews I saw when it launched did not mention any issues.

    Hit the nail on the head with the car analogy. It baffles me that not more people are talking and warning about the HUGE signal issues for calls and texts. Wife got so sick of her calls going straight to voicemail when my phone was on and had service. Back to reliable iPhone o guess...

    Thank you. This video was more helpful than any of the "full" reviews. I've been looking at getting a Pixel 7 to replace my aging OP6 and was looking for reviews that actually addressed whether the modem issues had been fixed. Instead I've found a bunch of fanboys fawning over all the other features without addressing the actual mobile connectivity on a PHONE. There's also a lot of blaming the carriers going on, which is not helpful at all. Basically this is the google version of you're holding it wrong, except worse because you can't even improve the reception by holding the phone in a weird way. Interestingly I live in a part of the world where we get the exynos variants of Samsung phones and Samsung is still known for good reception so it seems this is an exclusively google issue that they haven't been able to solve since the Pixel 6 came out. This gives me zero confidence in them fixing it with a software update. I don't really want to pay the Samsung tax, but it seems I will have to as my phone actually needs to work as a phone.
    TL:DR thank you for providing actually useful information for someone looking to buy this phone instead of just fawning over the good stuff and ignoring the issues in the hopes of more free crap from Google.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey MTB53850, thanks for the comment. Yes, to be honest, I was surprised at the lack of mention about this issue too when I encountered it. It was only after finding a couple of Reddit threads, that I was able to confirm that it wasn't something wrong that i was doing. You're 100% right about the Google version of you're holding it wrong. If you take a working SIM out of another phone where it was working, pop it into the Pixel and it doesn't work, pop it back into your original phone and it works, the issue is with the Pixel. At minimum, a phone is supposed to make and receive calls, so this definitely doesn't deserve to win phone of the year, regardless of how good the camera is.
      Outside of Sony and Nokia, I haven't used many other phone brands to recommend anything else, but let me know what you end going with whenever you replace your OP6. I haven't used any of the Samsung FE phones, but I hear that they're decent value if the specs interest you. Good luck!

    I'm having exactly the same issue. No bars, and an exclamation point. I can't make calls or send text messages. While I like many of the features of this pixel 7 pro, if it can't perform the most basic functions of a phone (calls and texting) it's a total failure in my opinion. I have heard that the pixel 6 had these issues, but that the 7 had corrected them. Apparently not. My samsung phone always got at least 3 bars and usually better. If you're thinking of buying the pixel 7, beware the connectivity issues. I can't sit around and wait for some future software update to maybe correct this problem!!

      Hey Robert, thanks for sharing your experience as well. Your case is more extreme than mine because, while I had medium to low bars and the exclamation mark, I was able to call and text, but I only tested it for around 2 days. Like you, I also heard of the Pixel 6 series having this issue and also thought there's NO way it could happen on the Pixel 7 also, but here we are. I moved back to my Samsung phone because I can rely on it for what really is basic functionality. I'm assuming you're going to return yours or have already returned it? I returned mine about 3 days ago because I don't want to wait for a patch that might come way after the 14 day return period.

    Thanks for posting your video. It was helpful. I was considering Pixel 7 Pro but was hoping that Google fixed the connection issues with their Tensor/Exynos chipset and antenna. Looks like they didn't. I had a Pixel 6 for a year. It was always losing connection to Bell in random spots in the GTA. Got tired of seeing the exclamation mark. I'd toggle airplane mode on/off and it would connect. Very annoying feature of the phone. Bluetooth was also spotty for me with two different earbuds. It's a shame because the Pixel 6 has an excellent camera and it looks like 7's camera is even better.

    This network issue is there in Pixel 2XL. After updating to Android 10 my pixel 2XL started behaving strange. Frozen apps, keyboard, low 4G reception, call drop and what not. They literally put low quality h/w in their phones. If camera is the only selling point then Google better to make portable cameras but not phones. If your phone needs 12 GB of RAM, but still can't run without lags, then there are serious optimisation issues in s/w code. AI may need to do multi billions of calculations to make my photo look good,but is your processor good enough to handle that. Your phone is not able to do its basic task of making and receiving calls. AI can't be a answer to all h/w problems these phones have. Google have already tried its hands with Motorola, HTC, LG But they couldn't produce single stable phone. Stop releasing new version every year. Just to add more emoji and widgets you need new version of OS, seriously Google? I will use my P2xl till its last pixel and then switch back to basic Nokia phone. AI has made these companies sick.

      I'm in agreement 100%, which is why I returned the Pixel 7 Pro. I don't care how advanced the camera is when it's likely a feature I'll only be using 5 to 10% of the time daily. I need standard functionality of a phone, and when I can get it with phones from less reputable brands that cost 1/3 of the Pixel's cost, there's a problem. At least master the basics before you go after more advanced features.

Where I live we get those versions for even flagship phones and they're still known for good reception. Seems like this is an exclusively google issue, which makes it even less likely that they're going to be able to fix it with software. I mean they still haven't for the Pixel6 series so why would anyone trust them to do it with the 7.

By time it gets to me the return period will be up. I have to hope my phone is completely fine and I haven't just wasted my money. What's with all the other TH-camrs making it seem like the phones ok? I have notice that most of them don't ever seen to have full bars, not even for wifi and I was starting to think it's just their situation since none of them mention it. Smh. I have the Pixel 5 and used to have the 3XL and both have poor cellular and data reception compared to my wife's iphone and all my friends/family. It's okay if you live in an area with good/great strength of signal, but as soon as you enter into any areas with less than ideal signal I have a super hard time. I have Verizon. Also, I either drop calls or have poor reception even when I have wifi calling enabled, which seems likely that is a software issue, but I have a hunch that the signal quality overall is hardware related?...
    Thanks for posting this video because as much as I love my Pixel 5 I keep monitoring whether or not Google will fix this before I purchase another one. If they don't fix it by Pixel 8 I will be forced to go with either a Samsung or iPhone.

      Hi Political Salad, thanks for sharing your experience. The Pixel 7 Pro was going to be my first Pixel phone since I previously used Samsung and Sony. When I use the same SIM card in my Samsung phone, no issues. Other's have said they contacted Google and were told that a patch was on the way, which makes it sound like it is software related. I guess time will tell if it really is software related, or hardware related like you mentioned. I returned my phone already because I didn't want to wait for a software patch with no definite timeline in case the issue wasn't resolved within the 14 day return period.
      There aren't many videos about this issue, so I guess it only affects a small percentage of people. I've been asking people who are affected to share their carrier name, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern to this issue.
      If you do end up trying a Samsung phone, I did review the S22 Ultra & the Z Fold 4 if you're interested. The S23 Ultra should come out in January or February I believe, so there should be price drops around that time hopefully as well to clear out the S22 stock.

      Yea there is definitely an issue with the Pixel 7 series. The same SIM card from another phone results in signal issues on the Pixel. In 2022, you should be able to pop in a SIM card and have it work, especially when popping in a SIM card in phones that cost $300 or less just work. What's the excuse for a supposed premium device.
      I get your disappointment, I was looking forward to using a Pixel phone for the first time, and the experience has been soured. it's weird because it's a whole new modem. I wonder if they just didn't improve the modem at all despite the new model number or maybe the modem is more capable of working better however google still has yet to optimize it.... One thing's for sure is that it really does seem that overall Google just doesn't care about anyone and there are very simple optimization tweaks that they COULD do but just choose not to for example tuning the speakers better..... the speakers are trash but can be improved with tuning.....

      @@catstoriesandmore Glad to hear you didn't encounter any issues. It also seems that Google was aware of the issue because some people said they contacted them about it and they were told a fix or patch would be incoming, but I didn't want to wait for that. I also noticed that on my S22 Ultra I had a strong signal, but in the same area with the Pixel, the signal strength was a bit less, so I just stuck with the S22 Ultra. I do remember seeing one commenter saying that she always had signal issues with her previous Pixel phones, but the Pixel 7 Pro fixed all those issues, so it's definitely an improvement for some users. Thanks for sharing about the mobile data icon though. I think they should rethink that icon, because it is a bit unsettling to see if the phone is working as intended. Will you be going back to your Pixel 6, or gonna tough it out with the Pixel 7 Pro? Maybe the Pixel Fold will have the issue solved.

      @@DemCrumblies There's a few good posts that generally prove the Qualcomm modems in the USA Samsung Phones are better than the Samsungs Exynos modems in the Pixels (and Samsung phones in the UK). I like the S7 Pro and I've found its fine on a different network in my area - I'll give it another week then decide

      I put some settings that some users shared that worked for them in the pinned comments. If you've tried those settings or tips and still have no luck, you'll likely have to contact Google directly.

      I'm really not sure because I returned the phone after I had this experience. I did put some information in the pinned comment of this video to share temporary work-arounds that other viewers shared. Maybe try those tips to see if any of them help, but ultimately it will be up to Google to issue a software fix or patch for this.

      Hey R David, sorry to hear that. I already returned mine, but another viewer mentioned they turned off "battery saver" then restarted their phone and that fixed the issue. Dunno if that will help you too, or if it's just a temporary fix.

      @DemCrumblies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alex, sorry to hear that. Some users mentioned forcing the phone to use LTE as the preferred connection instead of 5G. Some have also reported temporary fixes by disabling all battery saving modes on the phone. I think a couple people mentioned turning on Airplane mode, restarting the phone, then turning Airplane mode off again. I already returned my phone, so I can't test these tips, but hopefully it helps. I think you should strongly consider if you will wait for Google to fix the issue without a stated timeline, or return it within the return window before you get stuck with it.

      @@alexal1787 Hi Alex, you're welcome. I am really sorry to hear about your experience, especially if you decided to give Android a try. I am very disappointed too in the Pixel phone. I was also interested in using the Pixel for the first time to experience their software features and computational photography. However, I didn't even bother to test the camera out in detail because if a phone cannot provide basic phone functions, I don't need it, I can just use a camera instead. If you ever decide to try an Android phone again, Samsung's Ultra series of phones are quite good in performance, and I've been satisfied with the camera quality too. Anyway, you made the correct decision to return the phone. I guess you will go back to your iPhone 13 Pro Max?
