GC, never heard of the MS connection. I do take Lions Mane twice daily and it is very helpful in improving short term memory... and I do have MS as well though I haven't had a flare up in quite some time, perhaps Lions Mane is the reason.
Antioxidants like polyphenols and flavanols from berries, red onions, red grapes, beets, herbs, spices and cocoa powder can also help you Omega 3's like fatty fish and algae oil can also help.
Psilocybin mushrooms have certainly had a beneficial effect on my mental health. They’ve been quite effective for me in managing my anxiety and depression.
My wife has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME. I got her started on lions mane mushroom supplements, and it has made a significant difference in... Everything. She's really started to come back to herself, including creative activities.
That's great news But Don't get caught up in causality bias. It wasn't necessarily the supplement that did all the job. It may have played a part, and that's good to understand.

My recovery journey was greatly enhanced by the therapeutic benefits of mushrooms. Other psychedelics like DMT and LSD have also proven to be remarkable.
I will also add that lions mane mushrooms are absolutely delicious and super easy to cultivate even if you’ve never grown mushrooms before. I’ve been growing them in my basement with great success.

@@ayushdiwakar2515 I love/buy/eat lots of different kinds of mushrooms including (but not limited to) Straw mushrooms, Enoki, Shiitake, reishi, oyster, lion's mane, King, boletes, morels. cremini, portabellas, corals, puffballs, straw mushrooms and several others. I'm surprised that you are finding that people are only eating buttons and wonder if they know what to do with the other kinds. I guess a lot of people just stick with what they're familiar with. Have you tried selling to Asian grocers? Various Asian cuisines use mushrooms much more than the typical American fare, and they use a greater variety than American cuisine too. Also, you'll tend to find more of a market for multiple varieties of mushrooms in vegen cuisines than other types too. Cater to those markets too, and I bet you'll find a niche.

Lions mane really helped me out of a terrible depression. I take them all the time now, with a break of 2 days every so often as recommended...they uplift your mood so much ❤
i could remember several years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

YES very sure of Dr.raymycology. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
I can verify Lion's mane did in fact help me. I was having a lot of trouble remembering things and this isn’t a problem I’ve always had. I noticed getting more sleep and trying to mitigate stress didn’t help. I read about Lion's mane and tried it. It didn’t take long, I started noticing a difference. Much less brain fog and much easier to remember things. My family noticed and said I stopped repeating myself; so I know it isn’t just wishful thinking on my part. I wouldn’t call this the limitless pill or anything like that, more like restoring the baseline you had already but lost…. At least that’s what the stem growing out of the top of my head is telling me to say (jk).
First found out about lions mane mushrooms when I got into growing my own mushrooms at home. Ever since I've wanted to grow my own lion's mane for the memory benefits. I also just really enjoy the entire process of mushroom cultivation. Something about a single batch of grain spawn coming from a few spores, being able to birth that into literally hundreds of other jars, it's just magical. So different from cultivating plants because fungus will just consume and fill whatever food you give it. It always feels like I'm watching a hivemind at work. That only further adds to the wonder when they drop their spores. Because each and every one of those individual spores could birth another colony of the same size. Really makes you understand how unflinchingly efficient they are.
@@someguy2135 to be honest I've never used a starter kit for growing mushrooms. Always started with spore syringes. Lions mane grow in sawdust so you can just use a bag of sawdust with small holes in them. Just did some reading and looks like lions mane can be started by inoculating jars of grain spawn just like most mushrooms. So you would just let the mycelium fully colonize the jar before birthing it to new jars or birthing it into a sawdust substrate. Honestly upon doing some reading these are gonna be easier than I thought. Always figured mushrooms that grow on wood would be more difficult but these work pretty much the same. Only big difference is the mycelium is apparently much thinner than most mushrooms so it's harder to tell when the grain is actually colonized. I'm excited I wanna go buy a spore syringe and get get started now!

I have a TBI that really messes up my sleep cycle and mood. I started taking lions mane capsules and it helps correct my sleep, clear my thinking, and correct my mood. It wasn’t a “fix”, but it helped a lot.
I started taking Lion's Mane a few months ago, and this has definitely been my experience. I started taking a low dose and already noticed a small difference in my general cognitive function (focus and memory specifically, but an improvement overall), so after the first month I added pure Lion's Mane, and am taking it for a minimum of 3 months to give it a chance to really start to do its thing. I'm happy to say that I've seen continued improvements since then.
I just started looking into this, there's so many different brands online and you never know if what you're buying is snake oil. What brand did you go with?
I had brain inflammation from May last year and I was getting worse and in June this year I started taking lions mane and I felt better. But I had done so many other treatments to help my brain inflammation, I was planning to discontinue the mushrooms but I dreamt of goats feeding on them on the side of a hill and I decided it was the mushrooms that actually helped and I will continue to order them. Thank you for this video.
I suffer from severe TBI. I started taking lionsmane mushroom extract about 4 years ago and my life has changed incredibly!!!! I felt like was living with a fog over my brain and one day ot was gone!!! I started going to college, currently working on my Bachelors. Even before my TBI I never though college was a possibility, but the mushrooms literally helped my brain rewire the synopsis that were broken. Mushrooms are magical!!!!!
I should add that the Lion's mane mushrooms are very yummy too! In the Chinese vegetarian diet, we use this mushroom to replace meat because it tastes so meaty! I recommend everyone to give it a try ☺️
It textures so meaty too! It's very easy to grow from fruiting blocks so if they aren't available where you live you can just grow them! I do it frequently.
Mushrooms are a great source of umami savory flavor. Great alternative for meat for flavor. Just add a plant based protein source,; like tofu, beans or tempeh. All great parts of a health promoting plant (and fungus) based diet.

I've been taking half a teaspoon of powdered lions mane mushroom in my tea and coffee in the mornings. i have psychosis and the side effects of the medication(not the mushroom) resulted in me having mild narcolepsy, i would sleep 14 hours a day. now i sleep 11hours and dont feel tired during the day, it has also help with the number and strength of the psychotic episodes (psychosis and narcolepsy possibly linked as i have a paneel cyst). i have tried nearly every common and some not uncommon supplement and neutropic and this by far is the best. Another one to look out for is the golden root also called rhodiola rosea but i found it to be a bit of a caffine high and it wears off after a few weeks.

I'm not sure if anyone will see this comment, but I'm still here to make a review of taking lions mane supplements after about 4 weeks. The review is completely subjective, since the only reference point is myself. So far I did not see any improvements in memory, creativity, speed of thinking and so on... it did help with my anxiety and depressive episodes though. When I suffer from anxious episodes I get overwehelmed by all the thoughts and fears which leads me to feeling depressed for 1-2 weeks. I did get such an episode last weekend. While it was still really uncomfortable to go through, it was definitely easier for myself to structure my thoughts and process them. I was able to make connections between my anxieties and their causes... understanding that there is nothing to be afraid of. While this might be me maturing and learning from other episodes, I never saw such an improvement during just one episode before... which leads me to think that the supplements have something to do with it. Btw this episode only lasted 3 days which I am so thankful for. I am using a supplement which was used in a scientific study on eating disorders and lions mane mushrooms... rn I'm a little too lazy to look the link for the supplement and study up, but if you're interested, just tell me!
I am taking one, but not one that was used in any studies (it is from GNC). If you are still around to give the information/brand you use/used. I also have anxiety and severe depressive periods. I would like an alternative for the Rexulti and Klonopin, So, I started taking Lions Mane. Thanks

World renowned mycologist Paul Stamets has been harping on this for well over a decade. I've even had a literal neurologist look at me like I was crazy when I mentioned hericenones and erinacines for nerve health. It's refreshing to see scientists in the west are finally taking their effects seriously.
all trained doctors look at you like your crazy. big oil purchased the medical field if its not oil based pills it doesnt work. plant medecine is illegal and looked down on
one of my biggest frustrations with western science is that when they encounter non western health claims, theyre immediately dismissive, which is incredibly unscientific. what should be done is to try to prove and disprove the claim, that way if it ends up being true, we didnt any spend time ignoring something that could be incredibly valuable to us
To be fair: Stamets is a bit of a snakesoil salesman, especially regarding the controversy surrounding the supplements he sells himself :( was quite disappointed to learn about all this because I really thought he‘s a super cool dude.

While there have been some studies exploring the potential benefits of certain compounds found in mushrooms for cancer treatment, it's important to note that these studies are still in the early stages and more research is needed.
These substances are believed to work by altering brain activity and promoting new perspectives and insights. However, it's important to note that more research is needed to fully understand their mechanisms and establish safe.
It's amazing what the power of the shroom is. Being used as a ingredient, as food, as a hallucinate, and as a potential way to alter the Aging process. It's crazy how the mushroom isn't exactly a plant or an animal, yet, it has so many benefits, probably more in the future will be discovered.

They taste incredible. I used to work at a high end grocery store, and it was my job to market new foods. We had some of these come in, and I sliced them and fried them in olive oil with some salt. THIS VIDEO (and the mushrooms) CHANGED MY LIFE!!! Thanks to you, I researched and bought Lion's Mane supplements from a reputable supplier, and an unidentifiable nervous system condition (which caused unnatural sky high, nearly killer anxiety and blood withdrawl from already cold limbs) I'd suffered from for MONTHS just cleared up in the matter of two hours. It's been 2 1/2 days since I started taking them, but the difference is truely steeper than night and day. I take each pill 12 hours apart. I bought the pills from LuckyVitamin. Let me tell you a bit more about my condition just so you're aware. I believe I suffered from a toxic exposure to mold in an attic, a severe long-term dust-related reaction, OR a long-term reaction to a high exposure of a cleaning chemical. I suffered from sky-high anxiety, random pains in limbs, profuse sweating, and some kind of neck inflammation where every time I moved my neck I got anxiety. My limbs get less blood flow since my blood vessels are constricting more, and my skin feels like it has splinters in it some places for a short while. I get feeling of joint inflammation even though I suspect it's only the nerves themselves that are inflamed. I don't get trembling, but everything that has to do with pain anxiety or fear has been mucked with. My memory also got mucked with, I couldn't remember stuff so easily. But now I can at least remember stuff and focus on my schoolwork, and the anxiety has gone down so much. Even when I feel like I could get anxious, I feel like I can easily control it now.

The first two to three weeks I didn’t notice much until I started my new job which is in an office with computers doing tech support. The last similar job I lost it due to my ADD. Regardless of my medications, I still encountered the usual symptoms of confusion and disorientation. I’ve been taking two medications, the second one I had just started (after job loss ) and maybe a week later is when I started taking the lions mane. When I started the new job I was just more than halfway finished with the capsules so let’s analyze this: Previous job- Because of my symptoms I had a hard time learning the new program. Despite reading the procedures every day that I was there, I felt lost often as well as drowsy. Current job- This one also has the same system as the previous one so I dreaded and feared having to go through the same thing again. But something weird happened. While I started training I recognized almost everything that I had seen from the previous job, including the program, what each process does and other aspects. I’ve NEVER experienced anything like this in my life . The first two weeks in the new job I felt very competent, something I rarely feel. I kept thinking that it was just the two meds kicking in but unfortunately, as I was ending my second week I ran out of the Lion’s Mane. I proceeded with my life towards the third week and the end of the third week which is when I’m writing this. Gradually through the week, my mind started to feel foggy again to which today I made a small blunder to a customer’s account. I’m still training so I let my senior coworker know so he could revise what I did thus correcting it in the end. After I noticed this I almost allowed myself to fall in despair because I don’t want to go through this like last time again. Conclusively I came back to the seller to order it, but I see that the shipping speed is too slow and I won’t get the product until May. I canceled the order and went with another seller with the same type of product which will hopefully arrive today. I can’t risk waiting for this seller to finally send it over a week later. In a nutshell it’s a pity that the benefits of Lion’s Mane are only present with continuing doses. According to scientists, Lion’s Mane has been observed to aid in growing new neurons. But once you stop taking it, does it mean that those neurons it helped grow die off???
Studies conducted in rats with Alzheimer's show Lion's Mane enhanced acetylcholine and choline acetyltransferase (the enzyme that produces acetylcholine) levels in the blood and hypothalamus. Try choline/lecithin supplements (and choline acetyltransferase if you can find one) Lion's mane is also a blood thinner. It all depends on the underlying cause of your brain fog vs what lion's mane delivers

It would seem like the natural course of things, if a cell doesn't die and instead grows, would it turn cancerous? Well, cancer seems to occur most in cells that are close to dying, are misshapen, or UV breaks up enough DNA to turn them cancerous. Nerve growth factor seems to do the opposite, in that it appears to keep nuerons in healthy check.
I'm not by any means knowledge on this. But I do know there are certain cancers that are driven by normal human hormones. If you get breast cancer, they actually test if the cancer is responsive to estrogen, for example. If it is, they will prescribe estrogen-blocking medications. But the reason the cancer responds like this is that it has retained that behavior from its original non-cancerous cell. Only now its growth is uncontrolled. I imagine that if there is a brain cell that is normally stimulated by these mushroom compounds, there is at least a chance that the cancer will also respond to them. That doesn't necessarily mean these are the cause of the cancer. But the cancer could be more aggressive in response to them.

Is the effect limited to lion's mane mushrooms, or do other mushrooms provide similar benefits? Also, are the mushrooms raw or can they be cooked in a recipe? I could certainly do with improved memory function.
Good questions. Short answer: no, but... Plenty of different mushrooms share similar qualities, and many of them don't but have benefits in other areas of our physiology.

When my son was 8, he had a bad accident that was pretty traumatic. Right after the accident he developed a stutter which get worse very quickly and he also developed involuntary muscle spasms/tics with the stutter. We always have been and always will be, these things coexist as a part of our nature to understand things and improve our own lives, both in ways that are more meaningful like health and in ways that are more "superficial". I think an ideal world has both, let people live longer, healthier lives and let them express their individuality to its fullest (safe) extent
Mushrooms are so good for the body, if you could just get past that visual of what mushrooms look like, don’t let the fungi fool you. Sometimes the main foods we don’t want to eat are the main foods we need to eat, like fungi.

What can you say about the substantial subreddit that talks about the (negatively) life-altering side effects (panic attacks, pain for months after taking etc.)? I started taking 1,2g supplement per day a week ago but was ultimately scared away by those people since the probable benefits did not outweigh those possible backlashes for me
I've had those symptoms. Of course I can't be certain its due to this but it does seem likely. The first time symptoms showed up after taking it for a week or so, and they lasted for almost two weeks. Intense palpitations and panic attacks. Then I stopped it and it went away two weeks or so later. I also saw a cardiologist but nothing was spotted in my heart. I still have more tests to go to. Then like an idiot, I convinced myself it couldn't have been the lion's mane and took the supplement for two days before deciding it was not worth the risk and stopping. a few days later, symptoms showed up again, and have persisted for 10 days now. But this time its different, with intense pounding heart but blood pressure and pulse all show up as normal, and horrible anxiety that I can't dispel. ON top of that I have also noticed that I am far more sensitive to caffeine now, and just two cups make me feel uncomfortably anxious.

I take 500mg b3, 500mg GT, 1g lion's mane. 4 days on, 3 days off. I'm 3 days in an my social anxiety is gone. I feel like a game show host. I've been cracking witty jokes around my family and friends all day and it feels amazing. It is absolutely noticeable, even without the psilocybin.
I take about the same as you except the psilocybin is like .50 gram every few days. I feel Lions Mane cured my depression with just 2 grams in hot water. I use it only if I feel SAD.
Lions mane is a excellent product, i've been taking it for a couple years. Before i started taking it i had next to no feeling in my toes and now i have full feeling in my toes. It also minimises hot flashes. There is also a slight increase in internal energy. Totally great product.
Also other mushrooms. Look up some interviews (e.g. his Joe Rogan podcast interview) with Paul Stamets or look up his research, he talks a lot about this.
I have so many questions. Like does cooking the lions mane mushroom destroy these benefits? What if the mushroom is dried? Is there already a thriving market for this mushroom? or is it a pretty niche? (That is to say how hard is it to find it this mushroom?)
I wonder what the longterm effects of consumption are. Like, habitual chapstick use actually prompts your lips to produce LESS moisture on its own (catch 22). A similar example of use prompting decline of natural proclivities is a friend took CBD for insomnia for years. When she decided to stop, she noticed just how much her routine had come to depend on the drug. Sleep was once again incredibly difficult, but it's impossible to know in this anecdote if her insomnia was worse than it was before using cbd.

I get feeling of joint inflammation even though I suspect it's only the nerves themselves that are inflamed. I don't get trembling, but everything that has to do with pain anxiety or fear has been mucked with. My memory also got mucked with, I couldn't remember stuff so easily.

When I started the new job I was just more than halfway finished with the capsules so let’s analyze this:
Previous job- Because of my symptoms I had a hard time learning the new program.

Studies conducted in rats with Alzheimer's show Lion's Mane enhanced acetylcholine and choline acetyltransferase (the enzyme that produces acetylcholine) levels in the blood and hypothalamus.
Try choline/lecithin supplements (and choline acetyltransferase if you can find one)
Lion's mane is also a blood thinner. It all depends on the underlying cause of your brain fog vs what lion's mane delivers

The first trial had such a powerful result that medical experts predict psilocybin mushrooms will soon be the treatment to go to for depression. (They just need a way to tax it first, I guess)

Psychedelics are the reason why i didn’t take my life when i was at my end. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, I’m doing better everyday and will never think in such a self destructive way again.
LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself
This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

So I have brain damage from my immune system and struggle with adhd like symptoms and terrible memory loss. It’s difficult to function, but when I take lions mane with other mushrooms (cordyceps and quite a few others), I feel SO MUCH BETTER! I can remember things and function pretty well when I’m consistent. It’s been insane
@gillifish do you still take it regularly?
Maybe a dumb question, but does higher nerve growth factor also increase the chance of brain cancer?
Your likelihood of cancer increases as you age, because your immune systems ability to fight cancer decreases. So not necessarily.
I'm not entirely sure about your origional querie, but the turkey tail mushroom is very effective against certain cancers.
I was wondering about this too - cell death isn't always a bad thing.
This is fantastic. So glad I watched it.

Mushrooms are amazing. They are so so good for you. We had a dog called Alfie and he had cancer, we were told he only had a few months to live. Is the effect limited to lion's mane mushrooms, or do other mushrooms provide similar benefits? Also, are the mushrooms raw or can they be cooked in a recipe? I could certainly do with improved memory function.
I was wondering this too!
Good questions.
Short answer: no, but...
Plenty of different mushrooms share similar qualities, and many of them don't but have benefits in other areas of our physiology.
Review the research of Paul Stamets
You’ll need to perform an extraction process for your body to use the beneficial compounds. Just eating them will not give the cognitive benefits.

I used to have a real problem with my feet and fingers going to sleep due to a cancer medication I take. Then, a few months back, I learned about the benefits of various mushrooms and started taking a mushroom supplement. Since then, the problem with my feet and fingers has subsided. While I can't say for sure it was the mushroom supplement that helped, the two coincided so it is possible.
Does cooking them have any negative effects?
I wouldn't say negative, but it definitely lessens the positive effects, especially in the hallucinogenic variety.
Yes. One such effect is the expectation that you’re going to eat them.
This is very interesting because fungi also carry information in the Earth among plants. I recently found a recommendation by a neurologist for older people to eat Lion's Mane mushrooms.
When my son was 8, he had a bad accident that was pretty traumatic. Right after the accident he developed a stutter which get worse very quickly and he also developed involuntary muscle spasms/tics with the stutter. We took him to a speech therapist to get him treated. After a few seasons with the therapist, by complete chance the accident my son was involved in come up in conversation. The therapist then said that this isn't a speech issue, it's PTSD and speech therapy won't help.
