The Rising Storm 2 Beta is here! We're the US attacking the VC on Cu Chi in the Iron Triangle. I'm Squad Leading, so there's a lot of me trying to get forward and find a good position to spawn my guys in.
This is still in Beta: there are bugs, it is rough around the edges, some things are not 100% finished and polished yet.
The intro music is from an old game called Viet Cong ( • Vietcong 2 - Stones ), the patrolling GIs traipsing through the title are greenscreened in from the ARMA 3 Unsung mod.

Looks great. The screams are persistent and really disturbing. I always get immersed in these games. RO2 and getting pinned under machine gun fire and watching like 6 AI and 1 human player get mowed down trying to move up at once. Yikes.
Yeah, RO2 and RS really have that immersion and horror of war stuff nailed. Can't wait to hear the voice acting for Vietnam

i know its all about the gameplay but the graphics could be better....
It's beta, they'll likely improve. Personally i think it looks pretty good, but that might be because i'm used to playing on ultra-low in Ro2.
Ramunas Seduikis most people are playing on medium or low, since the beta isn't very optimized even for the best PC's at the moment

The graphics just seem to be lacking, specially compared to Red Orchestra 2.
Graphics aren't finalised yet and I'm running them on high, not ultra, so you're not seeing it at its best
Usually Hapless I though that it would look more like Red Orchestra 2 with improved graphics I guess.
All I'll say is wait until you can compare Hue City to the urban Stalingrad maps :)

Its a shame that the game is being built on UE3 instead of UE4 cause its lacking in the graphics department even if it is still in beta
Agreed, at least the gameplay looks decent. The graphics could use some work, especially the ground textures.

Fred Piche I agree, the game itself looks incredible with the unique mechanics and gameplay, but pretty graphics don't hurt either

if the graphics are worse that means 2 things. The gameplay should compensate and it wont lag as much.

Isn't it coming out early 2017? I'm not too picky usually as I have a pretty weak pc, but this just looks epically, embarrassingly bad for these days.
One other thing I'm concerned with is- asymmetrical aspect of the game. That never have worked before. People just don't like it. That's why most of people, me including, still play Red Orchestra 2 instead of Rising Storm.

How is the weapons recoil and handling? Seems pretty realistic to me.
Its a little up in the air at the moment- they're still tweaking it- but they all feel pretty solid.
The M16 seems a tad low in recoil but pretty close

It seems less clunky than RO2, how do the controls feel? I like RO2 a lot, but the delay in the controls bothered me a bit.
It feels good to me, but I might be so excited I'm not noticing any delay. I can say that its the same engine as Ro2

Do the guns still shoot like lasers?
Its the same as RO2 and RS, so hitscan at short range and real ballistics further out.

Like Hapless pointed out RO uses hitscan and only implements ballistics at greater distances. Though I've been playing RO2 for a long time and personally never noticed anything that resembles realistic ballistic physics. But, I could definitely be mistaking. With hitscan you're technically not firing actual projectiles, in theory.
So what you will find in the majority of your engagements is that the bullet will go exactly where you're aiming 10/10 times. Giving the feeling that you're shooting lasers instead of actual guns, since that's not how they should operate. As amazing as this series is, that kind of kills it for me. Was hoping they would change that with Vietnam.
JayTac1 But vast majority of guns ARE nearly instant in impact until about ~300m for full size rifles, an example being that an 8mm Mauser can cross 300m of distance in about 0.4 seconds or so.
signs80 It's not the speed that's the issue, it's the accuracy. Guns in RO2 have laser-like accuracy which isn't realistic.
are the maps big? i always hate it when you are in a map that feel more like an arena.
IMO its a good balance between 'room to maneuver' and 'small enough to be interesting'.

Hapless do you know if there will be a campaign map like in Ro2/RS1?
There won't be one on release, but there will be one in some Free DLC later apparently. Mutliplayer Campaign makes the game as far as I'm concerned, really looked forward to it

how consistent is friendly spawning directly on an SL compared to RO2 ?
Seems like the SL pretty much craps out the respawns wherever he sits: 04:14 and with enemy fire close at 12:23. Might be subject to change though.
Why is the ghost ring completely opaque?
I always have trouble playing with my mates on RO2, even when we're in the same squad it's difficult finding each other on the battlefield and advancing/defending together. Is this still like this in RO2 Nam ? Thanks for the video dude !
The squad system is different in RS2: you can make your own squads, so its a lot easier to play with your buddies

I have a question, can you make 2 or more characters, for example i've created my Viet Cong soldier but now i want to play as Americans.What happens then?
You have a separate customisable character for each faction: VC, NVA, US Army, USMC with another character for the pilots

Yea I am wandering about weapon upgrades,but Im expecting more than just level 25 upgrade and level 50 upgrade than RO2 and RS.There should be more stuff to modified our weapons.
Heh,sooner or later after released there gonna be update and update..
There won't be any soldier upgrades like in RO2 and RS and all unlocks are going to be customisation gubbins, but on the plus side that means that there's a level playing field and you've already unlocked all the loadouts- and there's lots more of them than there were in RO2

This looks like Joint Ops Rising Storm from back in the day...I loved that game. Are the maps huge? Can you get sneaky and flank the enemy bases open world style? Or are there arbitrary boundary's like Battlefield?
Do the M16's have the original 20 round mags or the 30?
They had both earlier in the Beta, now they've just got the 20s

They really need proximity voice chat like in Squad. Other than that, the game looks great!

this looks very realistic far as strategy goes. I do hope they work on the graphics a bit before final release

They should make it at the start of the match for the U.S. you start in helicopters and land.
Judging from 90% of the helicopter landings I've been present for, that wouldn't end very well for the US :D. It would look awesome though
Yeah the enemy could just set up defenses and mow down the U.S. but it would be cool if you survived it.

This is really disappointing. I was hoping for a game more like the original Red Orchestra with large, open maps combined with the squad mechanics of a game like Project Reality and direct VOIP. The graphics are very disappointing as well, the art style looks low resolution and the colors are very over saturated for a gritty Vietnam shooter. Sure it's in beta, but I don't think they are going to change game mechanics and retexture the whole game in a few months.
As a diehard Red Orchestra fan, they cannot regurgitate the same engine and expect to slap a AAA price tag on it. I really hope to see a significant facelift before release.

Hey Hapless, does this game seem more like a mod than an actual standalone game to you?
I keep watching footage from you and other youtubers, and I cant drag myself away from the feeling of this doesn't look nearly up to par map wise and graphically wise as the other Red Orchestra and Rising Storm games are. Everything seems so bland, like the building walls, theres no cover from point to point, and theres just huge open spaces, and it doesn't seem right to me.
I want to like this game a lot, but I can't shake the feeling this looks way more like a mod rather than a professionally developed studio game.
I'd say you're seeing RS's son and RO2's grandkid in its horrible spotty teenage phase. So, clearly derived but individual and not 100% polished yet. Things are going to get touched up and tweaked. That's what the beta is for.
Map quality is a personal judgement: I reckon they're pretty good. Its not in the current beta wave, but look out for Hue City. It's gorgeous and a pretty even fight at the moment.
The physical aspects of the game are great!

Josh B Well it DOES take place in Vietnam, you mung. And this is low texture quality because the game is in alpha still and not optimized to run maxed out yet.
First off insulting someone when your trying to inform them makes you sound like a neanderthal. If you don't critique a game they won't improve it.
Squad has been out for much longer, of course the graphics are going to look better.

I think back at whichever Pax it was they mentioned trying to get "Paint it Black" for the presentation but it would have cost more than their entire budget, so... wouldn't be too optimistic about famous musics. I'm surprised they got Run Through the Jungle in.

Yep. Its very much part of the game, you have to learn how to tell the two sides apart.
You shouldnt play sqaud lead in the vids you upload, it can be kinda boring when you find a good spawn spot.

Too fast paced. What happened to ro? Ro2 was insane, in terms of good gameplay with realism. This is just run and gun now. People are playing this on the lowest graphics settings to make sure they are competing properly, it used to be about realism, and having fun. Now it's just counter strike call of duty battlefield 1 gameplay. Not worth it, ro2 will be the best fps of all time IMO. Check out a game called Squad. It's a very fun realistic game. ALLOT of ro players play squad together.
People are playing it on lower graphical settings because its an unfinished, unoptimised beta that doesn't quite like to be run on ultra-ultra yet. As for the gameplay, imo this IS RO2 gameplay- realistic enough to be interesting, not so realistic that its boring or frustrating. Obviously we just play RO2 in different ways.
