@@yepisme455 I first started playing multiplayer ww2 shooters with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Day of Defeat in 2002. That was over 20 years ago!
Back in 2002-2003 I was about 7-8 years old played MOH Frontline redid the beach mission a 100x. I play HLL religiously and I can't wait for this game to come to consoles
If you just casually walked down the beach, it wouldn't feel like that big of a distance at all. But in this situation, it might as well be miles. One of the first FPS games I played was Medal of Honor Frontline on the Gamecube, and it did a decent job for the time of somewhat capturing that feeling, at least in the context of video games. D Day was the first mission, and it felt like the hardest when I played it as a kid. But this takes that to a whole new level in many ways, especially since you aren't a main character and are just a guy who hasn't been shot yet.
In real life its 300 yards from the shore to where the sea wall is. Making it across that wide open of a landscape with mines, artillery, mortars, machine guns, and small arms fire must have been hell, worse than any hell imaginable. Heroes

Actually really mad I spent money on HLL now. I was intimidated by how much more complex and huge squad 44 is but now I regret not jumping right into it.
I think the suppression effect is better in HLL. Your screen goes blurry and it becomes hard to aim. Well the allied bombers accidentally missed Omaha beach entirely in the attempt to soften up the landing zone and create bomb craters for men to take cover in. Tanks were supposed to land at Omaha Beach as well to help the infantry, but nearly all of them sank, got blown up instantly, or failed in some other way before even getting to the beach. So it wasn’t intended to be this much of a slaughter. Things just went wrong.
It just occurred to me, why didn’t the allies flood the beach with smoke instead of letting their landing craft get targeted by mg42s and hundreds of infantry just getting turned into goulash?

@@nathangameros341 yeah we all know the bombers missed etc, but planting smoke shells can't be that hard, you can see where they land.. they're smoke shells.
It’s probable that the allied forces were unaware that the pre-landing bombardments were ineffective until they had boots on the ground and didn’t consider additional smoke was needed. When you’re in the “open field”, don’t shoot and reveal your hiding spot unless you’re covering for someone. I don’t it care if you’re the best shooter in the war, you are no match for those machine gun bunkers mounted atop the ridge. If you’re alone and not needed to lay down suppression fire, Just peek to see where the gunners are and run as fast as you can for the next cover or hiding spot till you reach the ridge-line. It’s useless peeking out those craters and tank stoppers and shooting at the bunkers at the same time. You’re a sitting duck there, and the worst is you’re quacking and everyone atop can see and hear you.
The game is amazing, but I will never understand why so few don’t shoot back. Suppression is a very powerful tool in many games, Squad 44 especially. It isn’t only about the kills, it’s about taking the objectives, and that becomes a lot easier when the enemy is suppressed. I mainly play Squad and Squad 44 and this is an issue I see in both games. Listen to the audio, learn what the enemies guns sound like and what direction they’re firing from. Figure that out and shoot back.
Great DDay experience, the best one still is from Day of Infamy however. Few have played that game but it was the most realistic butt clenching chaotic assault in all video games.
