Really excited for this video as I've been meaning to get into crates since I started playing years ago; but it all seemed too complicated to me. You've put everything very clearly and given a lot of personal examples that really flesh out the experience rather than just saying surface level things. This makes me a lot easier to decide if this is for me from a personal perspective.
One thing this video changed for me is how I thought crates were viewed. In the past all I heard was "it's really great passive income, just afk process overnight and eventually you'll accrue a big turn in every month or so; it sure beats the hell out of fishing" and then I heard it turn into more of "trade crates are only good for those insanely deep into guru who buy raw mats to margin trade, it's not really worth packing your own crates so just sell your plywood instead".
After Mastery was implemented and watching this video I see that crates are no longer a "passive" style of income because you can mass process your entire node stock so quickly with enough. I've got this massive (well massive for me) stockpile of about 500k timbers of different types because I've been undecided on what to do with them. I've rolled a few +3 workers in trent and OWT but not nearly enough to sustain a respectable trade empire. I've been told to level via rolling but it's too time consuming so do junk crates but those are too expensive and I should do money crates yadayadyada. It's difficult to get good information so I just let things keep piling up.
I could just invest in a good stone, process my stock, attempt to sell it all off on the MP, then re-invest all my timber nodes into cooking and farms (which I find more enjoyable); but then I would miss out on what I hoped would be a truly passive style of income. I really love the idea of spending some time cooking up imperial boxes so I can log in and turn in every day without dedicating large amounts of time to grinding mobs.
Do you think it's worth it to trade crates in a more casual manner? Is it worth it to only pack from 4 OWT workers while processing with 700-900 mastery an hour or so each day or would it be better to forget timber nodes totally and instead invest in cooking nodes and farms? If trade crates aren't the "passive" overnight income they used to be, then what is? Is fishing a viable "overnight" income akin to how normal processing used to be?
Thank you so much for the video, this has made me question a lot about how I think about trade crates and what I want to do going forward. I'll have to re-evaluate my plans for my node empire and life skills. After following your cooking series I've totally fallen in love with it and I'm working towards guru valencia meals while gathering my own materials. It's kind of insane that I'm making more silver and having more fun gathering and cooking than I do grinding Aakman.

Timber nodes as a whole are actually very low yields overall. I attempted to test them again, and it would take me the better part of a week to get 1 minute of chopping per node. You're actually better off investing into other nodes, like the ones I mentioned briefly in the video. Whether you cook with it or sell it, you'll end up netting more money overall - allowing you to just buy timber/ores outright.
Seeing as you have a few workers already, it'd be a shame to not put them to work - that being said, it sounds like you might not be a2 yet. If you aren't it doesn't take a very large investment at all. In fact, if you gather Behr/Pilgrims for a little bit, you'll only really need BSP in order to make those boxes (herb/copper crates for example). After artisan 2, you can just make money crates to level up, or choose to continue junk crating, or both, or none! Choice is yours :D
Processing overnight has been relegated to flour/dough/cheese now due to the speed of chopping/heating with mass processing. AFK fishing in ross sea can net an upwards of 30-40m/h with a t4 marmot and +10 balenos rod. Horse training for imperial delivery seals I've also heard is strong, but haven't actually tested/run numbers yet.
TLDR, I think you've got a bit of a base (workers are honestly the hardest part) to try it out, and see if the time vs income ratio is within your personal thresholds.
@@aiRstylez Thank you so much for this personalized response. I think my plans going forward are to re-invest my node empire into a more cooking oriented set up. I would like to start by getting all the fruit, veggie, fig, nutmeg, teff, coconut, and fish nodes (I have a shark suit and sailboat so I may dip into margoria meals at some point) and invest the rest into pepper farms for my main focus on valencia meals.
Since I have such a large stockpile of timbers and ores, I'll slowly work my way through processing and packing those into junk and money crates at OWT and Trent. It should take me a long time to get through all that because I'm working with limited workers, but at the end of the day it is a very passive style of income compared to other activities. I know I can process enough and just let my workers pack them over the course of a few weeks or months without any intervention. As it seems to me right now, because you can process enough for a few weeks worth of OWT workers in a few hours, it's very worth it as a more passive income. Even if you don't invest in timber/ore nodes I can't really see a reason for anyone not to do this. I think, as you said in this video, it becomes not worth it unless you are investing heavily into it (getting all the grana workers); but rolling OWT workers is so easy it seems silly not to do and buy timbers to pack (but I haven't run the exact numbers yet).
I would absolutely adore a more in-depth node guide from you, particularly from a cooking perspective. I'm using very dated info and spreadsheets (over a year old before mastery) and they ALL suggest timber/ore nodes as the highest silver per hour, even if all you do is list the raw mats to MP, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. I would love some info on what nodes are most valuable now and what nodes I should look out for as someone who focuses on cooking. Thank you!

Well this whole system is mostly AFK and works by itself. You can do it during work or studying. Just press the craft button once in a while for a few days of doing other stuff. Also you can set it up so you get alch reagents for some potions. Very nice :D It's defenetly worth tryin.
Big fan! For sure its the greatest video i ever seen about trade in BDO. Now I can become g50 in cooking instead of wasting time for trading crates.
1 Grana and 1 OWT +3 worker producing frequently calpheon, steel, brass and palm trash crates are about 1b/month. EZ non F3 and low CP setup.

You should do a guide on bartering, another huge investment but the income is huge. It's way faster than what it takes to set up a trading empire.
Notice at 3:38 you're connected to Valencia via land. It should be much cheaper to connect Valencia via the ocean. Assuming you're also making Mediah crates, you can connect up to Sausan Garrison Wharf, and then connect from there via ocean to Ancado Inner Harbor. If not, you can connect via Velia as well.
I'll have to look into it, as you are correct about it being cheaper. I usually have a bunch of mediah/Valencia nodes going when not farming, hence the land route.

No joke about Grana workers. It took me over 6 months of rolling skills on 11 artisans and leveling 1 artisan to get +3 timer and +3 ore
You can also do horse transport and your GM uses Command to Gather to teleport you. Just as a side note
You can no longer accept CTG if you have trade items on you or your horse, if that's what you mean.
You say it's a marathon not a sprint but you're sprinting towards every G50 in the game.

I’m confused if you role workers with adv. timber packing skill you get 4 crates every 8 mins on art goblin x like 20 timber work benches and you can pull mineral work benches too. With guru trade it’s more like 100 mil an hour+
While watching this video my worker made 1 pumpkin crate worth 900 silver.

So, you speak about the workers needing to get "adv timber packing" but i dont realy understand what you mean with " +3 papu's"
Kind of a disclaimer, the fact that trading isn't profitable isn't technically wrong, but PA has promised that there will be a new continent (behind Port Ratt), which means we may get a route with even more distance bonus than Grana->Valencia.
The benefits of this will be pretty significant if we're allowed to make crates there. Just running it through Crate calculator, is seems like the max distance bonus is 150%, so we're kinda clipped there, but the difference from Grana->Valencia to Port Ratt->Valencia is about 17%. So Trading could be about 15% more profitable, which would be pretty huge for people who've already got Guru level trading. I mean MASSIVE. If they remove the distance bonus cap or rework trading (like they've said they will multiple times they would rework life-skills in general), it should be even bigger.
So heads up for people who're thinking about it but thinking it's not enough money, if you're a gambling man it could pay off big time.

I wanna get into trading but its so active and the crates seem so much more of a hassle than just setting up workers at farms and such to make passive income at a SLIGHT decrease of value. This is years of effort and I probably can make about the same just by selling the processed resources I think. maybe im wrong and misunderstanding. great video though! thank you!
It's a question if you want to go through the MP or not. If you don't buy VPs then it might be a good idea to build a trade empire to avoid the taxes. Most people just spring for the VP since it's immediate returns.

Why use T2 workshop when you have +3?
If it takes 10 minutes to do 1 crate +3, so 4 crates per 10 minutes. 40 minutes, 16 crates.
Using T2 at 40 minutes +3, 8 crates. Wouldn't it make much more sense to only use T1?

Do you wanna use an actual boat and be able to only take low amounts with you, or do you intend to go with a fishing boat with your horse stacked on to it to port ratt, and in both ways hope to not get sunk and lose it all? :o For Ratt you're in for a ride
@@leyren2606 I was going to do Valencia like everyone but I saw the map trick aiR posted in one of the previous videos. I'm still doiing the initial trash crates to get a2 so if when I move that I don't feel safe at all doing the overstack horse and map trick I will just go to valencia and lose like 40% of distnace bonus.

I think you'll make money, but at the cost of being able to make more money by having the workers just gather stuff instead.

just to point out if you have enough +3 workers in a few cities you can make 15k crates a day and get atleast 500mil a day just by buying and processing the items from the marketplace
edit: the 500mil is the profit you get and not the total silver you get

You click on workshop in grana and then choose worker from old wisdom tree; I belive materials need to be stored in tree.
Just make sure you connected these 2 towns.

I believe this can be set up, your biggest problem will be venecil processing outfit. It truly is miserable processing without it OR weight.

ahh i barely had any items and i got prepared to sell my 1k calpheon crates ive gathered in 2 months (new to the gameish) when i searched it up in the crate calculator it said i was looking at 100k which i needed. After a long travel to valencia and sold everything i only gained 10k i never felt so sad
