It's the same in my part of Canada, we have 2 blue bags and 2 wheelie bins, black and green. Organics go in the green bin and go to a composting facility. The blue bags are for paper and the other one is metals plastics and glass. Oversized furniture and appliances are collected separately several times a year. They look in the bins before they dump them and if they see it's not been sorted, they won't dump it. Most of what does actually go in the truck is taken to an energy from waste plant where it's burned to produce steam for electricity or heat/ hot water at hospitals and universities. Very little actually ends up being landfilled.
I'm always amazed at the new furniture that people simply destroy and throw away. hardly a scratch on it, hardly a spot of dirt. it looks like it was just unpacked from the cardboard box and immediately thrown away.
Common around blocks of flats with transient tenants. Chuck everything rather than take it to the next place; then buy all new when they get there. And then complain about not having enough money.

I worked for a city that did that exact same thing picked up bulk, we were lucky we had help from the young and strong street department they had front end loader machines and we just threw the heavy stuff in the bucket while big dump trucks handled all that material, we were just picking up card board and smaller misc..."crap"" that was left loose on the ground...some people just don't care that others have to pick up their messes

Where I am, the local council encourages you to take bulky waste which is recyclable to the recycling centre or, if it is too big to go in a car, they will bring a specially-built truck to you, for a small fee, and take it away to be recycled. Alternatively, we have a local family-owned scrapyard which will collect household appliances, like cookers and washing machines, from your home, free of charge. If you can take it to their yard, they'll pay you the scrap value on the metals. The footage in this video shows sheer laziness on the part of the local council, something the local residents will be damning them for in years to come when the heavy metals in the printed circuit boards leach into the soil and contaminate the water table.

Hi! I'm from germany. What happens to this load? Goes it to the landfill? Or get it sorted by Material. Or get it burned? I ask because there are so many things and iteams that we separate here in germany an collect separate so it get recycled. Metal to Metal, paper to paper, wood to wood, e-waste to e-waste and the Rest get burned and we make Energy From waste. For us its forbidden to crush e-waste and fridgerators by a rear-loader. I saw a few beautiful things that I would have a hard time smashing up, like the glass table with the chrome legs which was very nice. I would have to call someone who has a truck to come get it for my use. On a side note, I think you should have a rake handy for raking up the smaller things that are left behind.
Do this for a few weeks and you stop caring about all those things too nice to throw away. Doesn't register anymore. It's all just stuff you have to throw away. That decision has been made for you by the original owner. As for the little bits, that's neither their job, nor do they have the time for that. At 40 something stops a day, that's for the residents to scoop up and be glad it's even an existing service. There are areas where you'll have to transport all that trash yourself. It's not their trash and neither are they your lackeys to pick up crumbs. Be grateful they alleviate you from the difficult part of your job to get your trash disposed of.

Gente, até os papelões aqui no Brasil seriam reutilizados para reciclagem e para fazer arte. Imagine as cadeiras, mesas, sofás, colchões, geladeira e etc. Tudo isso teriam um destino sem precisar necessariamente destruí-los. Aqui no Brasil é muito dificil comprar um móvel, as coisas são bem caras e quando conseguimos comprar só jogamos fora quando acabamos todas as possibilidades de ajeitar e concertar tais produtos. Realmente esse mundo é muito injusto.

Where I live, they don't hand load this stuff. They have a loader with pan jaws that follows the truck around & scoops this stuff up & the Driver just works the compactor.
Everyone saying "those things look so nice, why cant they donate them, why throw all that away" need to understand a few things. First, stuff always looks better on a camera twenty feet away. Clothes are often moldy, mattresses can have bedbugs, appliances may need parts that cost more than the whole machine, cheap furniture can look expensive until you get up close. Second, these big companies are paid to work fast and move on to the next thing. They dont have time to save things that they MIGHT be able to sell later. Third, salvaging items on a scale like this takes a lot of space and manpower to clean, fix, list, and meet with potential buyers. It is sad, i know, but there is something you can do about it. Go out into your local area and GET TO SALVAGING. I run a small junk removal business, and I actually do salvage a lot of things. I have the time to put into them. You might be amazed what you could find. Unfortunately, you cant travel around the world to salvage a table, but look around where you live. It takes time and perseverance, but you WILL find things you can use, donate, sell, or scrap.

I love recycling. However, I don’t recycle all cardboard. The common reasons include dirty, too big for cart, or other small objects that can fit that would be too sharp too handle trot bulky waste. In other words, use it as a container.
Great bit of kit that eats everything, glad they don't get indigestion. Just like to see it being unloaded back at the yard, does it all come out in one dirty great lump?
How are they allowed to crush a fridge in there? At the time we were allowed to put out bulk waste on the curbs, those kind of devices always were picked up seperately. And from watching videos about recycling of those devices, I learned that they had to get the harzardous gasses out before they could do anything else with it. But here they just crush it in the truck and those gasses just vent to open air?

I just don't understand the laziness of the people who dump their stuff in the streets etc. In England, we are expected to recycle our waste, even at the recycling centers. There are steep fines here for offenders of leaving rubbish like that. The sad thing too is that much was shown in this film could of been refurbished and resold.
This is a council clean up where residents are encouraged to leave out their bulk waste. Dumping of rubbish on the kerb is otherwise illegal and carries a hefty fine. I agree that much of what we see could have been re purposed but due to Covid many organisations won't collect the items and the regular recycling bins won't hold the bulky stuff. The cardboard boxes could have been broken up and placed in the regular recycling bins.

They will be earning close to $ 1000 a week each that is the normal wage per week for that job I'm an age single pensioner living on my own my pension per fortnight is $900 if I was renting the government would pay me a good amount of MY rent as well as a large amount of benefits free doctor's dentist is a lot cheaper than normal and that is a private dentist free hospitals .opps and it hose on because I live 100km away from perth we are giving a card for taxis or fuel which is charged with $750 and the list goes on our people are well looked after if you use A L L!!! We don't have these type of collections in the UK but if we did there wouldn't be a scrap of metal to be seen as the local scrap collecting fraternity would take the lot. Scrap collecting is rife to the point where the dodgy ones are even nicking kids bikes and garden furniture in broad daylight! The only thing that is safe is a fridges or freezer as these are now considered hazardous waste and the scrap yards won't touch them. Council would be facing fines if they were to crush them with a bin wagon like this.

@@mjhmotorsport These bulk waste collections do get sorted at the waste management centres and the normal garbage collection goes to landfill. The recycling collection goes to a processing centre where the recycling is sorted and processed. There are not many incinerators as these are seen to be environmentally unfriendly to nearby residents who argue the incinerators are a health hazard. I must say that every state and territory has its own policy regarding waste management.

Gente, até os papelões aqui no Brasil seriam reutilizados para reciclagem e para fazer arte. Imagine as cadeiras, mesas, sofás, colchões, geladeira e etc. Tudo isso teriam um destino sem precisar necessariamente destruí-los. Aqui no Brasil é muito dificil comprar um móvel, as coisas são bem caras e quando conseguimos comprar só jogamos fora quando acabamos todas as possibilidades de ajeitar e concertar tais produtos. Realmente esse mundo é muito injusto.

Everyone saying "those things look so nice, why cant they donate them, why throw all that away" need to understand a few things. First, stuff always looks better on a camera twenty feet away. Clothes are often moldy, mattresses can have bedbugs, appliances may need parts that cost more than the whole machine, cheap furniture can look expensive until you get up close. Second, these big companies are paid to work fast and move on to the next thing. They dont have time to save things that they MIGHT be able to sell later. Third, salvaging items on a scale like this takes a lot of space and manpower to clean, fix, list, and meet with potential buyers. It is sad, i know, but there is something you can do about it. Go out into your local area and GET TO SALVAGING. I run a small junk removal business, and I actually do salvage a lot of things. I have the time to put into them. You might be amazed what you could find. Unfortunately, you cant travel around the world to salvage a table, but look around where you live. It takes time and perseverance, but you WILL find things you can use, donate, sell, or scrap.

I love recycling. However, I don’t recycle all cardboard. The common reasons include dirty, too big for cart, or other small objects that can fit that would be too sharp too handle trot bulky waste. In other words, use it as a container.

Many years ago, I found an antique wristwatch inside of a drawer of bulk waste next to a street. It turned out that the watch had a value of 500 USD!
Great bit of kit that eats everything, glad they don't get indigestion. Just like to see it being unloaded back at the yard, does it all come out in one dirty great lump?
How are they allowed to crush a fridge in there? At the time we were allowed to put out bulk waste on the curbs, those kind of devices always were picked up seperately. And from watching videos about recycling of those devices, I learned that they had to get the harzardous gasses out before they could do anything else with it.
But here they just crush it in the truck and those gasses just vent to open air?

I just don't understand the laziness of the people who dump their stuff in the streets etc. In England, we are expected to recycle our waste, even at the recycling centers. There are steep fines here for offenders of leaving rubbish like that.
The sad thing too is that much was shown in this film could of been refurbished and resold.
A lot of that stuff could have been put in their regular totes, trash or recycle.
This is a council clean up where residents are encouraged to leave out their bulk waste. Dumping of rubbish on the kerb is otherwise illegal and carries a hefty fine. I agree that much of what we see could have been re purposed but due to Covid many organisations won't collect the items and the regular recycling bins won't hold the bulky stuff. The cardboard boxes could have been broken up and placed in the regular recycling bins.

Does that compactor not have any extra loading height to it? Seems like with bulky waste it would have a higher load height. Also how much does that truck hold? It seems to hold an extremely impressive amount.

They will be earning close to $ 1000 a week each that is the normal wage per week for that job I'm an age single pensioner living on my own my pension per fortnight is $900 if I was renting the government would pay me a good amount of MY rent as well as a large amount of benefits free doctor's dentist is a lot cheaper than normal and that is a private dentist free hospitals .opps and it hose on because I live 100km away from perth we are giving a card for taxis or fuel which is charged with $750 and the list goes on our people are well looked after if you use A L L!!! We don't have these type of collections in the UK but if we did there wouldn't be a scrap of metal to be seen as the local scrap collecting fraternity would take the lot. Scrap collecting is rife to the point where the dodgy ones are even nicking kids bikes and garden furniture in broad daylight!
The only thing that is safe is a fridges or freezer as these are now considered hazardous waste and the scrap yards won't touch them. Council would be facing fines if they were to crush them with a bin wagon like this.

@@aussiejohn5835 That's great if it's true for over there. From what I've seen anything mixed with general waste goes to an incinerator or landfill stations though unfortunately.
@@mjhmotorsport These bulk waste collections do get sorted at the waste management centres and the normal garbage collection goes to landfill. The recycling collection goes to a processing centre where the recycling is sorted and processed. There are not many incinerators as these are seen to be environmentally unfriendly to nearby residents who argue the incinerators are a health hazard. I must say that every state and territory has its own policy regarding waste management.
