A CT scan is a test that uses x-rays and a computer to create detailed pictures of the inside of your body. It takes pictures from different angles. The computer puts them together to make a 3 dimensional (3D) image. CT (or CAT) stands for computerised (axial) tomography.

I had my final CT scan a couple of weeks ago to check that my kidney cancer hasn't returned since I had surgery in early 2014. I will never forget the warm feeling of the contrast going through my body for a long time :-)

I am looking forward to my CT scan in 2 weeks - it will give my radiographer and consultant the information for the next stage of my cancer treatment - and I know they will describe and explain it to me in detail. I have persistent pain in the head for along time the doctor told me we have to do CT scan but I'm scared i haven't approved yet . I'm a refugee in Indonesia my friend advised me don't go for CT scan in Indonesia doctor isn't advanced I've alot stress.

CT scans are about the easiest thing I have done.. Lay there, hold your breath for 7 or so seconds. Nothing too it... My first scan found a tumor in right kidney.. But after it was removed CT scan found nothing bad. :)

Please consult with your doctor, there is no catch-all method. If you haven't been excessively exposed to X-rays (which is why doctors usually hide from them), they have been proven to have no long term health effects in healthy individuals however

I just had CT scan yesterday i was the most horrifying experience for me. It was my 3rd ct scan in just 6 days, 1st and 2nd was ok but the 3rd was horrible i had panic attack due to extreme heat inside of my body after injecting contrast my sight became black lost control of self and unable to breath i stood up even it wasnt done yet maybe bcoz of panic and i requested to remove the IV after around 5 min i became ok but still leaves me to trauma i will never do CT scan again unfortunately i have been diagnose i have kidney cancer.
I have a question regarding when a CT scan is performed. Is it necessary for the gantry to rotate around the body to get the images required. or can your body be scanned by just having the body be moved back and forth into the machine while holding your breath .Also is there a light that comes on.
Its necessary for the gantry to rotate around the body inorder to take a 3D image.

Getting one in about an hour and a half. Not a big fan of the IV contrast tbh. I’m scared of IV’s. The thought of a needle staying in me for that long is freaky.

For that CT Scan its around 8 mSv, which in the grand scheme of things is very low risk. The point where it usually becomes uncertain is when people have multiple full-body scans over the course of a year. This is because of the much higher radiation dose + repeat exposures. In other words don't worry about your scan dosage, you'll be fine. 👍

I'd guess no longer then 10 seconds each scan. Its really the easiest thing you will ever do in your life.. Just lie there like a rock.
