In Hong Kong, it used to mourn this history at Victoria Park every year before National Security Law passed in 2020. Nowadays, Hong Kong government saying 4 June is a nervous date, they don't even want to mention what's happened in the past, the same approach as China. In stories such as this one, I’m always left wondering if someone in the military agreed/identified with the protest cause. What would it have been like shooting your own people down, knowing the opposition to the oppressive regime grew ever weaker with each bullet fired 🤔
This is a very similar situation to how the protests in Romania started against the communism. Fortunately here, despite being ordered to shoot the civllians, the army rioted and sided with the people ❤️
There were good soldiers, who refused to point gun at the people. Their commanders were later sent to military court and got kicked out of the army. This fact touched me. It is hard to imagine kindness still exist in such a tragedy.

My dad actually participated in the protest and was fortunately not killed. He and other protesters went more than a thousand kilometers from Jiangsu to Beijing by climbing onto a train. The Chinese commoners were actually supportive of the protest and were willing to support the protesters with resources. Wish I was there.
