    I found another video on youtube where a guy uses a razor blade scraper (think of a paint scraper that has a razor blade) and it scraped off the majority of the soap scum (it flaked off like thin paint!). I was worried it might scratch the glass but it didn't. I then used your method afterwards to remove the last thin layer of soap scum. My shower looks brand new with next to no scrubbing. Highly recommend both methods for the quickest/best result. Thanks for sharing.

    Note that this will not work for hard water ETCHING. If you try this method, and it doesn't work, you have hard water etching. The only solution I've found for hard water etching is to use a UV Clear Coat such as 4EverClear. This will fill the pits in the glass and remove light refraction restoring the appearance of unpitted glass - but it's only temporary, after a few months it'll wear off. The #1 sure fire way to restore etched glass is to replace the glass entirely.

    • @davidlaforet-sj6gl
      @davidlaforet-sj6gl 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      what’s the difference between etching and normal?

    • @nuothe11th
      @nuothe11th 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@davidlaforet-sj6gl "etching" is when glass has been physically eaten away/removed from the pane, leaving "pits" of removed material, and resulting in the pane not having a smooth mirror-finish. "Normal" is when deposits/debris/soap scum/dirt is on top of the physical surface of the glass, giving it a dirty appearance. To the naked eye, the two conditions look identical. If the hazy condition remains after using reasonable effort with cleaning products, more than likely the glass is etched and needs to be either replaced or filled with a UV clear coat.

    Baking soda neutralizes vinegar and makes it less effective. The bubbling looks impressive but you might as well be using soda water.
    If you want to remove limescale, mix equal parts vinegar with dish detergent. The vinegar is acid and dissolves the limescale. The dish detergent is just to make it thicker and sticky, so that the vinegar stays on the surface long enough to dissolve the limescale.

    Why do people let their shower doors get that funky in the 1st place? Keep a squeegee in the shower, takes less than a minute after you dry off. Clean it once a month easily with a little vinegar/water and it looks like new again. Also, it will work without the baking soda as shown here. Mix 75 vinegar 25 water.

    That stuff may work on lime stains but we sometimes get thick rust stains that seem impossible to remove with vinegar. Never mind bleach, that only stinks up the bathroom and still does nothing to the stains. I have had to use Iron Out or Whink Rust Stain Remover. Iron out is the safer one of the two and just does not work as instantly as the other. Whink might etch glass and even damage tiles so try it on an old tile or one you planned to replace anyhow before you use it on anything not gel coated fiberglass. I have tried all the other things except trying to sand the rust stains away and nothing seemed to work well or at all. It makes me cringe when someone says they tried sanding it away, think what it does to the surface of the tub or shower. It must be horrible.

    I don't understand how the vinegar solution doesn't just all immediately drip downward. It seems like it'd need to sit and soak for a while. Also how long did you have to scrub to get these results?

    • @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118
      @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can buy limescale removing foam sprays (like the AntiKal brand in the netherlands) intended for bathroom cleaning that stick to the surface. But these products are quite a lot more expensive than simple vinegar so using them to clean surfaces with severe limescale tends to be much more expensive than using cleaning vinegar.
      I recommend using cleaning vinegar and applying that with a cloth, then soak rags or paper towels in the vinegar and hang them on the glass wall (make sure they are smoothly stuck to the surface, no air bubbles), and it can help to spray more vinegar over them.
      You can even leave these for a few hours, just make sure to remove before they dry out. Then when the surface has been soaking in vinegar for a while, remove rags/paper and start scrubbing. Then rinse and dry the surface immediately.
      This is recommended for glass shower doors that haven't been cleaned in ages. Repeat the process as necessary.
      When I moved into my current apartment the toilet hadn't been descaled in ages, it was brown with limescale residue and people were telling me to just replace the toilet. I dumped half a bottle of cleaning vinegar into the toilet every night, let it soak overnight, and then first thing in the morning I would scrub the limescale.
      It took me 5 times to completely clean the toilet but it looked like new.

      If limescale isn't regularly removed, it will etch the glass over time. That's why it's always easier to do maintenance cleaning than go nuts with huge (and often unsuccessful) cleaning efforts. Squeegee or a glass towel is your best friend. After every shower rinse the glass and wipe it dry. It only takes 2 minutes but always looks nice and you'll never need to scrub like a maniac. Simple vinegar spray and wipe down once a month will suffice. It's about creating habits that'll make your life easier and enjoyable.

    My Question is
    That abrasive sponge and baking soda
    Does not affect or scratch the glass ??

      Not that I have noticed, doesn't appear to scratch the glass at all. And I have done this multiple times on the same door, haha.

    works so far, but you will never get clear glass again. What happens is the water stains and your body grease plus all shower products actually etch into the lamination of the glass, thus leaving it pitted and rough to touch it's that that the scum grabs into and makes the crappy looking surface.

      That explains a lot. Thank you for helping me understand why nothing works (for real, thank you)

      @@gohawks3571 if you have glass shower screens and not the plastic type a good soaking with shower gel or soap and water leave to go tacky then it will come off with a stanley blade but go in one direction and watch the rubber edges where the glass is held in its frame, good luck.

      Use car wax. Put it on let it dry. Use razor blades to remove. Perfect.

    Didn't work for us. Looking for a strong chemical that dissolves everything on the glass. Does anyone know if sulfuric acid works for this?
