Nice!! One tip to always remember, once you start using the razorblade NEVER turn it over and use it on that side. In other words, if you start using it in the blade holder with the retraction button up, always keep it up. As you are scraping you are damaging the blade and the damage curls away from the glass you are scraping. If you turn the blade over, you will scratch the daylights out of your glass!! God bless y'all!!
Made this mistake already. A buddy of mine recommended I do this to get rid of mineral deposits on the top of the fish tank. But he failed to mention not to flip the razor blade over or to be real careful when scraping it off. Now I have scratches all over inside of the tank. So be careful when using this method. Your mileage may vary.
If you don't want to spray vinegar every few minutes, you can use toilet paper soaked in vinegar and place it where the mineral build up is. Return after some time and scale should be removed or soften.
@arturovaldivia4892 it's an acid, don't use it while fish are in the aquarium, this video requires you to remove the fish, perhaps during a water change or something
I just picked up my first used tank ( 135g ).. it needs a bit of a clean up, .. great info in this video... thanks so much for taking the time to share... cheers
Wow. I just picked up a used 55G Aquarium that has its mineral buildup. You did a great job on explaining on how to attempt this task. I have a water filter, Tube Light, and an Aqueon Water Filter to chean up, as well. I will be replacing the Light and Water Filter, but at least I have something while the Aquarium is getting balanced. I bought a Gold Panda to help get the Biological Bacteria started using the Cartridge and Polishing Pad and Fluval Ceramic BioMedia that have been also growing in my existing Aquarium for about a month now. At least I won't be starting from scratch, like I did back in October 2022. Thanks for sharing.
You'll want to rinse the vinegar out really well, but Google it to be sure. I read something recently that said some fish are ultra sensitive to vinegar.
if you buy one of those glass hob scrappers you will have a hokder for your blade, also use a kitchen towel soaked in vinegar on thicker parts of build up helps it dissolve the vinegar
Any tips on cleaning inside glass of brand new tank??.....lots of fingerprints and glue residue from the advertisement sticker. I just want to use something fish safe since it's on the inside. Thanks and great channel.
Great video and advice. What really helps is to not let your tank get that dirty in the first place. I’m crazy about keeping my tank clean. But that’s me, not everyone feels the same. Great find though!
Yep, that's why I looked at this video. I want to get rid of the cloudyness. If he let the glass dry completely it would be more apparent... Gona keep looking. God bless y'all!!
What about if my tabk still has fish in while the glas could do with a good clean ? Transfer fish and empty deep clean tank or empty half the tank water and scrape off then pro vac it up ?
Sorry for the random out of the blue question, but what is the best way to stop or delay build up or other issues within the tank, I have a few fish safe chems from the stores but I kinda want to hear from the fish owner community.
Thanks. I’ve got a all glass Mr. aqua 12 gallon. 100 and something dollars for a beta tank. Wanted him to be comfortable. Coach Alex died and I drained the tank. Enough time has passed and my daughter was agreeable to a new fish. She’s a little bit on the sensitive side. Extra sensitive. But she sweet and that’s good. Anyhow, I do not want to scratch it up at all. Micro scratches or any scratches if it all possible. Just be careful with the razor blades & swap out regularly. or any other ideas. I like cleaning everything with vinegar. Figured I’d ask. I guess I could Google it but you have a lot of tanks. Have you ever filled a dirty one like that one up with water and a few jugs of vinegar and just let it run. So much miss information on Google. I’m being lazy but mainly don’t want to scratch it. Like the clean lines. Yours came out nice good job. Thank you
hey, here's a theory i have about scratching glass - i BELIEVE it's due to the pressure and surface area you apply while wiping the glass. if you press harder with a big grain of sand = big scratch, but small "silt-like" particles pressed gently against the glass with a wide surface area are pretty harmless (IMO). so i just use old filter pads to wipe algae in a slow circular motion. admittedly, i do get nervous on the glass near the substrate tho. maybe need razors for that. just my 2c
Sounds like it should work (similar to a coffee maker). Just be sure to do another 2 cycles of clean water afterwards to remove the vinegar from the tank (or wipe it down really good).
You should also be making sure you’re properly cycling your new tank anyway. Before you drop fish in the tank needs to get going. So if you take your time and clean the tank then let it cycle fish will have no issue when they finally get in there
I have a scratch on my tank on the inside from using a magnetic algae pad. I guess some sand got on the pad while i was cleaning. Anyone know how to remove the scratches with fish in the tank?
@taffykins2745 Yes I did! I tried several tools, and I want my tanks pristine with full clarity so I ended up throwing that tank away and just getting an brand new tank
@DjPosey3 ok, thank you. I want mine pristine too. I saw another cleaning vid that says said to use muratic acid watered down and then neutralize it with anti-chlorine liquid. I thought I'd give that a try. Hope it works! Thanks for your reply!
The video was very helpful, I just got a used fish tank and it looks exactly like yours. Probably worse actually. Here is my fear. That the little glue that hold it together isn’t actually gonna hold it together. How can I make sure, without just filling it with water and hoping for the best, that this used fish tank wasn’t cracked or that the jelly like glue on the corners will hold it together. It’s a 60 gallon fish tank Please help
@charg1nmalaz0r51 I know, but I was afraid of scratching the glass. I talked to others after I made this initial comment, and I found out the blade didn't work that great for them either. I did find another video that talked about it, and they told about a household product that works wonders! (He was an aquarium pro.) The trick on that one is that you have to be sure you neutralize it after use. To do that, you use aquasafe or similar to whatever country you are in. I had used a similar hard water removing product successfully before and was very careful to keep it off the sealant because it can absorb it. This is such an old comment, but I'm happy you wrote me so I could tell you what I learned along the way! As it turns out, I was right all along! 😀

How does the vinegar react with the fish in the water?
I would like to know that too ❤@@NMCourtsFailUs

Very good, straight to the point without going around in circles unlike so many others.

Omg the green pray bottle got me to subscribe!!! Love the humor
Excellent video bud. Really answered my questions. Oh and nice tank by the way. definitely worth spending the hours on.
My daughter just gave me her old aquarium. Not bad, my question, once you spray do you wipe it .
Omg you crack me up! Thank you so much for all these tips! My red ear slider is going to looove it!
Thanks for the vinegar tip. Because I'm skeptical about using a lot of strong chemical products in the tank
Thank you so much!
I just got a 2nd hand tank.
This video is the best!
I cracked up when he chocked on his words in the voice over and went UUUG😭😂😂😂

Thank you life saver ! I just got an old 55 gallon tank 🙌💪
100% it's best way to make sure get really nice deep scratches in your glass, bewarend
How do we proceed to fill up water from here? Any safe way to remove traces of vinegar or is it safe to just add water in after this? Thanks!

Just done this your way must say 100% easy and satisfying as well, did mix lemon just with vinegar as well still whole house stinks lol anyway cheers
Looks amazing! Nice work, thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I will try this tip. ❤👍

Nice vid, bro any idea how to remove calcium stains WHILE the fishes are in the tank ?
I Also came here looking for this answer
I can't wait to try this! Thank you!
Happy weekend. Nice tip. Thanks.🥰🤩🤩🌻🌻🌼🌷⚘️
Can you use distilled vinegar?

He literally showed this in the video, vinegar and razor blades.
thank you very informative....❤❤❤
No matter how many times I do this there is still a light fog. Any answers for this?
Did you ever find an answer for this? I just got a used 75 with that fog.
Used hcl, it's so much easier and faster, but be careful using it and rinse it many times using running water
What is hcl
@@cajungirl7811 no. But most of it goes away when it gets filled with water.

this is perfect when you find an absolutely filthy tank in a yard sale though :D !!wish me luck
So satisfying to watch the scraping 🤣
anyone else still see the water stains ( the cloudy marks) on on the tank at the end of the video. still looks amazing now its been cleaned up

@@sulaimanbinadenaankherekar8063 Unfortunately, no, I haven't. I think the glass is etched by the contaminants.

Hardware stores
But how do you clean up the dirty stuff left in the fish tank
suck it up with the aquarium syphons

Yeah he said white vinegar.
How long does it take until you can put water in it?
You'll want to rinse the vinegar out really, but Google it to be sure. I read something recently that said some fish are ultra sensitive to vinegar.
what the size of your tank?
Looks like a 125 gallon.
What did you spray the outside with?
Maybe the usual glass window cleaner.
Did you use straight vinegar?
i bet for this heavy load. he's SOAKING that crap in vinegar. "white distilled vinegar" has a PH of 2.4 (crazy strong).
