I remember when I didn't even know how bedrock breaking worked and after finally learning and spending weeks to understand it I attempted my first automatic bedrock breaker and after months of work it was a total failure but now after a few years messing around on and off I'm working on my 4th and soon to be best automatic bedrock breaker and I'm nearly finished after less than 2 weeks of working on it. Etho made a silverfish exp farm where blocks were moved into a cube (or was it rectangle) storage, episode 155-172. It just doesn’t have a return system which simplifies the operation a lot. Mumbo Jumbo also made one that was even more straightforward.

    This is actually something that I've been needing! I had this idea for a fun build where you'd have a library with a bunch of bookshelves, but the bookshelves are all connected via piston tape so that you can punch out any bookshelf and have it get replaced, giving you the feeling of being able to grab a book off the shelf. But I always wanted it to have some kind of block storage so the player wouldn't have to be constantly refilling it.
    Of course this seems a bit overkill for something that silly but maybe I'll give it a go! Great work on this build.

    • @_Matchu
      @_Matchu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      probably best to run those piston tapes (for the library) in parallel rather than in series... technically i think series would be less laggy, but parallel would have much cleaner wiring

    We really need to bring more attention to this whole farm design stealing situation.
    People don't realize that if it wasn't for people like mango making videos on their designs there would be no crazy efficient farms.

    7:51 What I usually do for safety switches is just put a comparator on subtract mode from the main switch, and then just run a repeater into the comparator to switch off the farm if a fault occurs.. Seems like an easy and more elegant solution to me rather than extending the piston.

    Could you expand the amount of blocks stored, by chaining just the cubes? So the flying machine that currently pushes the blocks to the part where they are converted into a single block stream could push them next to another 12x12 piston wall that pushes them back to the other side and so on and so forth.

      @crabbychimera3969 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      with my very limited experience I think this would be the way to go if you were wanting to chain modules together. Only having to deal with one extractor makes chaining storages a lot less complex.

    • @Wortigon2000
      @Wortigon2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ilmango Would chaining storage modules vertically be possible? Just in case someone wants to put the entire machinery inside a skyscraper kind of build, to make it look fancy. The real question in this would be, wether or not it's possible to push the layer from the cube upward, rather than sideways, with a similarly compact flying machine?

    • @andrewamann2821
      @andrewamann2821 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wortigon2000 I don't see why the axis of motion would matter here, at all... You might need to buy yourself an extra 1 block height for staging, but if you're doing something like feeding this from an enderman skulk xp farm, or a moss farm. The most interesting thing here is that the system is both chainable, and scalable for size, though maxing it out to 12x12x12 makes it as materially efficient to build as you're going to get, given piston push limits.
      Most of the material is farmable, too, barring, maybe, the quartz for the observers, iirc?

    You could probably create larger than 12x12x12 chunks using the same flying machine you had at the end of the cube moving the end into the slicer. Instead of moving it to the large piston wall to deconstruct. Have another cube facing the opposite direction. You would end up with a zigzag pattern of 12x12x12 cubes as you fill it up, but you could theoretically extend your storage to render limit. Or even have corner pieces that re-direct the 12x12x1 plates and you could rotate the storage 90 degrees giving you access to zigzag in two axis. Could probably even go vertically with cube storage too. Make gigantic pillars of blocks.
    Sand or concrete might also be a better alternative to snow. But I'm not sure how that would effect the system other than needing a floor under all the storage.

    • @kizerkX

    • @hyperon_ion9423
      @hyperon_ion9423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The piston block limit would probably be the ultimate obstacle for something like that. I’d imagine it would be possible to somehow stagger it like with larger flying machines, but you’d really be over-engineering it at that point.

    • @0x4849
      @0x4849 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this could be possible, it would just get slower the larger it gets, because of the flying machines needing to fly back and forth. However, maybe you could use use multiple flying machines going to in a loop to combat this problem. Actually maybe I'll try this.
