The author of the song is Venko Temekarov , a macedonian composer and actor from Pirin Macedonia, a region in Bulgaria.

As far as we know, Slavs didn't wage wars against native Illyrians of the region, they probably just dominated through the numbers, and here we are. We are a product of all of them, and Slavic languages prevailed, hence we are Slavic.
The Bulgars were not Slavs, they were Turkic people who mixed with Slavs, and once again Slavs dominated, that's why they speak a Slavic language now, but the name Bulgar is not of Slavic origin, since they were not Slavs. Similar story as with Macedonians, they kept the names of old tribes.

Barbaric Slavs?..you bully your ancestors Slavs known as Shopi! Macedonia is Shopia (Šopija). There are no Macedonians as Slavs. They, Macedonians spoke Greek language. If you think that Slavs comes to change names of Macedon cities, and left any Macedonian alive, you are so wrong. They were killed, and who was not killed - they were moved to other free parts. Later comes other tribes such as Black Croats, Bulgarians, Kumani, Pečenegi, Osmanlije etc.
