I read in an interview shortly before his passing, he expressed it wasn't his death that concerned him, instead it was the time his daughter wouldn't have with her father that she would have to miss. He loved her so much and she was his future. Maybe the world was a little better for awhile with your music and your message David. We all miss you. RIP Starman.
My mother used to play his music when I was young and I remember running through the house with one sock on singing "there's a star man waiting in the sky!" Now I'm sitting in my first apartment with my husband and my 3 month old son still singing "there's a starman waiting in the sky."
Nobody will probably see this, but I just want to put it out there anyway. Every time I listen to this song I get somewhat emotional, its such a beautiful song and was a large part of my childhood. As a kid I loved space, and David Bowie. Me and my Mom would go on vacations together and we would frequently go to Colorado in the winter time, in the day we would look at the beautiful rocky mountains and in the night gaze into the beautiful night sky. I remember us driving up a snowy hill in the middle of the night, stars showing, with this song playing on the radio. I also would frequently go to Space Camp and would constantly listen to this song. I even had a shirt that said, "I'm a motherf*cking Starman" that my Mom got me, even though she never let me wear it out in public I still loved it. Although as a kid I loved all the Ziggy Stardust songs, this one was special. Maybe because of the great lyrics, instruments, or something else which I'm not aware of. I would always listen to this and marvel in its beauty. Anytime I listen to song I tear up a bit, as a reminder to my childhood and the amazing memories this song allowed me to have.
This is definitely my all time favorite songs. I first heard it when I was around 11 years old, and I felt like something clicked, it was the very first time I had truly fell in love with art. This has happened a couple other times since then with songs, but so far I have never gotten tired of Starman. It never ceases to move me, and has brought me out of some dark places I’m my short lifetime. I appreciate this man with all my heart, and hope to find him on Mars some day.
The more you listen to the song, the better it actually gets. David Bowie might sound a bit jarring to newcomers but after a few listens, you would actually realise that there is so much to appreciate.
JabbaFett That’s exactly what I experienced. I just started listening to Bowie and when I started I didn’t really like it. But the more I listen to it the more I enjoy it.
He is gone 4 years tomorrow. We all miss our Starman, light a candle for him, please and listen to all his amazing music he let us have. Always missing him. XXX
David Bowie is the real Out Of Space singer, and he doesn't need to be an Astronaut or something related. Your still Buzzing our ears for decades Legend 🙌🏽🌠
"They say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time." - Banksy. I can't see Bowie really dying any time soon by that criteria
Bowie was a true artist RIP David Bowie. This song was a Master piece that is one of a kind and no one can replicate it. Legends like him will never die
+Joe Kresl I came here because I heard this in The Martian. I am not sure I heard this song before. But it was a very powerful moment in the movie that made me want to look it up.
Our own beautiful, dearly beloved Starman returned to the Sky and, although the stars look very different today, he will shine again for all of us through his brilliant images, roles and, ofcourse, music. Then, within Five Years we'll be Dancing in the street, kissing the Jean Genie, looking like a coupe of Kooks, dressed in Fashion extraordinaire, being Heroes just for a day, knowing that everything will be alright...Tonight. May the Blackstar shine on forever.... RIP
Honestly just burst into tears from listening to this for the first time in years. This song was literally my childhood, and realizing that said childhood is coming to an end really hit me. The fact that David is now resting in peace really hammers home the thought that I won't be able to go back to being a kid, singing along and messing up half the lyrics whenever my parents put it on the car stereo. Simpler times.
Totally agree with you I was 9 when this song came in the charts loved David Bowie. Everything I hear this song it takes me back to 1973. Wonderful time.
Imagine the first person who will step on mars. Imagine him listening to this song in his spacesuit and us humans watching it live on TV as he takes his first step, while this song is played in the background. Man I wish I will be alive to see that.

It's been 26 years since Mick Ronson died. Both him and Bowie died of liver cancer. 2 amazing musicians. I thought Bowies best music was with Mick Ronson on guitar
3 years ago. I awoke in the .middle of the night. I had to listen to Bowie. I just had too. Blackstar came out that year. And I was hesitant of playing it. But that night I decided too. I did Blackstar and then Lazarus. It was 4am in the Maritimes in Canada. Not even 20 minutes later I heard that David passed away in the night. My heart broke. It was at only within that hr. I'm not a spiritual guy, but when he died....so did a part of me.
R.i.p. David. I remember heard starman first when I was 12 y.o., in 1988. Got goosebumps even minutes after hearing this fantastic song. Asked school friend, to copy this song for me on an audio cassette. He did for me. I searched my room for all coins n money asked parents for some bucks. After counted about 50 bucks, I went 3 miles to media markt in germany and bought cheapest portable audio cassette player / Walkman. Rest of money enough for an ice cream. Then, I surely played n heared several hundred times this song, the only song, on the cassette. In bed before sleeping, doing homework, going skateboard, going for basketball, everywhere. Today, still have this old audio cassette n Walkman in storage room cellar in a box with old stuff, clothes, toys. I could give away all of this old stuff, except my starman audio cassette and the old walkman. It s one of my biggest treasures and David Bowie was a hero in my childhood. Through school, exams, first love, high school, drivers license, 8 years in german army, I used to hear starman and this old cassette, until Mp3 n CDs conquered the music. And here still it is, the one n only David Bowie audio cassette with starman, So many good memories when I see this 36 y.o. cassette n walkman. I m sad, I never couldn't see n visit David Bowie in live concert, but he n his music will stay forever and will be part of my life forever. Cause of you David, I ve started playing guitar being 14 y.o. The only thing I can say today is - ty David for your music, your person and all the things you did for us.
Lyrics Didn't know what time it was the lights were low I leaned back on my radio Some cat was layin down some rock n roll lotta soul, he said Then the loud sound did seem to fade Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase That weren't no DJ that was hazy cosmic jive There's a starman waiting in the sky He'd like to come and meet us But he thinks he'd blow our minds There's a starman waiting in the sky He's told us not to blow it Cause he knows it's all worthwhile He told me: Let the children lose it Let the children use it Let all the children boogie I had to phone someone so I picked on you Hey, that's far out so you heard him too! Switch on the tv we may pick him up on channel two Look out your window I can see his light If we can sparkle he may land tonight Don't tell your poppa or hell get us locked up in fright There's a starman waiting in the sky He'd like to come and meet us But he thinks he'd blow our minds There's a starman waiting in the sky He's told us not to blow it Cause he knows it's all worthwhile He told me: Let the children lose it Let the children use it Let all the children boogie Starman waiting in the sky He'd like to come and meet us But he thinks he'd blow our minds There's a starman waiting in the sky He's told us not to blow it Cause he knows it's all worthwhile He told me: Let the children lose it Let the children use it Let all the children boogie
+Ash Angel Will.i.am technically had his song "Reach for the Stars" be the first song to be BROADCAST from Mars to Earth by the Curiosity rover in 2012. But the first song to be played out loud in the air on the surface of Mars was the tune of "Happy Birthday," also played by Curiosity on August 5th 2013 (the anniversary of when it landed) using its Sample Analysis on Mars instrument to vibrate at different frequencies to produce the pitches of the song. I find it really awesome but also a little heartbreaking to think about Curiosity up there, completely alone, with this happy little tune echoing across the empty Martian landscape every August 5th with no one to hear it :')
Wonderful artist. So imaginative and ahead of his time. He completely ruled the 70s and 80s with an impressive string of hit singles. All very different with a distinct character. He got all of them right. I heard all of them on the radio back then and I remember being especially impressed with this one. Could well be an all time favourite. Than again, how do you choose between 40 favourite sons...
My dad's a big fan of David Bowie. Hearing Starman in the Lightyear trailer was the frosting on the cake. Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy, Lightyear, it's amazing how movies compliment the space element in some of his songs.
I know right? Guardians of the galaxy is the movie that introduced me to this music, and this era had some real bangers! Glad to see another film recognizing this phenomenal music!
This song is the song that I can blast through headphones and no matter how much stress or chaos or depression im going through , it all subsides during this song. The true Star man if only he knew how much of my life has changed 🙃 R.I.P David bowie we'll never forget you 💕

1981 i saw Bowie in Chicago. With Stevie Ray Vaughon( not sure how to spell) but it was 1 of the best concerts ive been to in my life. And it was my 18th birthday
Caught this song while my children were watching "The Simpsons" this evening and it reminded me that I hadn't heard it in SO LONG and how much I love it still! My son aged 14 had never heard it before and thought it was great too! Music for a new generation!
My father very recently passed and Bowie was one of his favorite artists, he enjoyed this song in particular... I really miss him dearly, but I feel him with me, when I hear this song. You were a one of a kind, Love you always Dad :)

If anyone can send word from beyond, it's David Bowie.
we won't see the likes of him ever again
That song is so unexplainably sad and beautiful at the same time
fax its not my favorite song but there is something special about it
I read in an interview shortly before his passing, he expressed it wasn't his death that concerned him, instead it was the time his daughter wouldn't have with her father that she would have to miss. He loved her so much and she was his future. Maybe the world was a little better for awhile with your music and your message David. We all miss you.
RIP Starman.
People die they do not pass.
My mother used to play his music when I was young and I remember running through the house with one sock on singing "there's a star man waiting in the sky!"
Now I'm sitting in my first apartment with my husband and my 3 month old son still singing "there's a starman waiting in the sky."

I just discovered this song and I’m appreciating it’s timeless beauty?
imagination and profoundness.
There was /is no one like him and there never will be!He transcends time ,colour ,race, gender and politics !
We just think exactly the same
The more you listen to the song, the better it actually gets.

It's been 26 years since Mick Ronson died. Both him and Bowie died of liver cancer. 2 amazing musicians. I thought Bowies best music was with Mick Ronson on guitar
Luke Flowers true
I was recently diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder but this song makes me feel motivated and better everytime I come back to listen to it :D

Lyrics
Didn't know what time it was the lights were low

Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase
That weren't no DJ that was hazy cosmic jive
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too!
Switch on the tv we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light
If we can sparkle he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or hell get us locked up in fright
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it

+Ash Angel that comentary was soo epic that i dislike just to like again :')
Reed Boohar Oh, I did not know that. Maybe they should send another rover that plays David Bowie and Curiosity will have a singing buddy.
