I’m so grateful to you for putting this information on youtube. It took me a while to find a channel that explained the process of learning to paint in a clear, step by step way that resonates with me. I have hope that I’ll develop my skills and be able to make the art I want to make using your videos and tutorials. I got your brush set last Christmas which also really simplified things for me. Thanks Chris!

@@paintcoach did you study art at an school or was it something that you learned all on your own?

For the base palette, I would also include a tube of burnt umber - it usually doesn’t break the bank but helps a lot to mix warm darks, and it also mixes a nice (but a bit transparent) black with ultramarine

This is great advice, especially for beginners! I’m an artist, who mostly does watercolor paintings. I haven’t worked with oil since 2017, and I want to get back into it.

Love this video! Could you make a video for artist looking to transition from digital to traditional? I've been a digital artist for 8 years, and considerate myself an "intermediate" when it comes to understanding the fundamentals of painting (composition, form, light, color). However I have grown interested in oil paints again because I've started to feel like the screen "blocks" me from fully interacting with my art. I've watched a few of your videos already and it has been super helpful! However I still struggle with understanding how to approach certain things that are automated in digital art. I struggle with building from thin to thick because my digital brush is always thick. I also don't understand when to thin my paints with paint thinner, or with oil. I struggle with understanding what my layers should look like, as layers have a completely different function in digital. And lastly I struggle with capturing saturated colors. Digital painting really allows you to push color because ALL of the colors are right at your finger tips. However mixing paints almost always darkens or desaturates the paint. Is the only true to way to maintain saturation with paint is to not mix a color fresh out of the tube? Sorry for the long comment! I've really been enjoying diving into your channel!

Great lesson. Thank you. I attend courses and however very nice teachers did not explain to all students importents of composition and how to use colos only correct individually each ones. In my opinion it takes longer for students to learn on their own mistakes.
I learn a lot from Your videos. THANK YOU.

Is basically. It’s okay to make shit up when you’re painting as long as it looks somewhat like what you’re painting 💫

Is French ultramarine the wrong primary colour to get? I’m struggling to get a blue green ish colour using it mixing with lemon yellow

  • @dailydoodle42

10:51 People dont realize learning art is like learning a new language. Its not magic. Ask someone if they think they can learn lets say French if they tried hard? Most likely would say yes. Ask them if they could learn art? Answer is often no. People dont trust themselves in art for some reason. If you can learn a new language you can learn art aswell
