    it's always a celebration when our mint returns after the winter making the first Julep! This winter a rabbit ate all the leaves and springs but it is slowly coming back. This does sound like a great recipe.

      It's nice to have some fresh mint at home. Still better than if it would drink all the bourbon right? The mint will grow back 😉 Thank you, Stephane! I hope that you will try this one out one day.

My julep cups will be arriving from Cocktail Kingdom tomorrow and we'll have a great time on Saturday. We're frying up some chicken and having biscuits too. Great video as always Kevin! You always seem pretty knowledgeable around infusing ingredients. When would you recommend going for the sous vide machine instead of regular pan on stove? What flavor profile you end up favoring?

    • @KevinKos
      @KevinKos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would always recommend using Sous Vide for more sophisticated syrups or alcohol infusions. It's amazing since you don't have any evaporation with this tool, so the syrup will always be the same sugar % as you put in the bag. And the second great thing is, that you can precisely set the temperature for the infusion. Some ingredients change their taste at higher temperature (cucumber, for example, taste totally different when cooked). But of course, I wouldn’t use it for simple syrups.

    Actually, that syrup might do well in an aviation twist as a replacement for crème de Violette?
    Or maybe a last word, using this rose syrup instead of luxardo maraschino?
    I think it would work fantastic in a variety of sour cocktails as the sweetening component, balancing out the acid. Thinking gin/vodka/white rum, citrus, rose syrup. The added hibiscus definitely makes it a great pairing for Jamaican or agricole rum. From the looks of it, it would really make a great replacement for any of the floral liqueurs like luxardo, St Germain, or violette. I will definitely have to give this one a shot!

  • @HighKingTurgon
    @HighKingTurgon ปีที่แล้ว

    This syrup sounds wonderful for a side project I was just starting to conceive. I've been discussing possible cocktails named for and inspired by the works of Shakespeare with ChatGPT. Its suggestion for Loves Labours Lost sounds good, but a little one-note. But part of its essence is a cocktail with floral inspiration, and I thought it might be good as a three-flower cocktail to parallel the pairs of lovers. The most obvious additions are St Germaine and creme de Violette, but I wonder how rose would play with those two flavors. I think rose would complement the elderflower, which would play nicely with the violets. But Violet-Rose might be a bit much

    Loved this video, I have recently tried combining your rose syrup with a rapidly infused gin with jalapenos to make a sort of "Love and thorns" cocktail, however I found jalapenos being bit too much on the savory side to compliment the rose syrup.
    What other processes of bringing in heat into the cocktail would you recommend?

    • @KevinKos
      @KevinKos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love the idea of the "Love and Thorns" cocktail. You can also use ginger or peppercorns, but be careful with the amount since it can quickly overpower the subtle rose. Maybe try with Ancho Reyes liqueur as well.

      @KevinKos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All listed ingredients would work great together, but be careful with adding both floral notes, since they are really powerful. Try to put them more in the backward on the palate so they won't overcome the fruity tastes of the blackcurrant and blueberry since they will be in the front on the nose. This seems like an interesting and tasty cocktail that I would love to see. Feel free to send me the picture on some social media. Cheers!
