    Maybe they were thinking of the future when they put the 17 foot safe height warning in? As for the "STOP when lights show' 'or when barrier is down" it is no doubt to cover themselves from any lawsuits that may result from thick people jumping over the barriers!

      I found a crossing like this near Barnetby Station called New Barnetby LC, which used to have manual gates until I think late 2015.
      Found an image of it on Flickr:

    Fascinating crossing. I’m trying to work out what the ‘call’ button does, if anything, as the barriers seem to raise when it is safe to cross, for example at 1:19.
    When your dad presses it near the beginning ‘wait’ was still illuminated and it had no effect.

    • @Nathan_A_RF
      @Nathan_A_RF  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You press the button and the barriers raise if it's safe to cross

      Hi and thanks for replying. I see now that the WAIT light is not illuminated at first when the barriers come down. So the button must have been pressed during the cut between shots.

    so this crossing was originally (in the 1990's when installed) a normal full barrier crossing, but was then converted to pedestrian user operated crossing. Dagenham Docks was not a user operated crossing & was lowered & raised normally.
    There is also a picture of Dagenham Docks crossing taken in 1987: www.flickr.com/photos/28083135@N06/11825134276/in/photostream/

      This crossing's default barrier position is down, the lights only flash when they are going down and switch off afterwards. The barriers only go up when someone wants to cross.

    • @Nathan_A_RF
      @Nathan_A_RF  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The background line is High Speed 1 and no, there aren't because that would be incredibly stupid and dangerous. Plus it was built with lots of new technology, most of it in bridges and tunnels.

      Jack Bauer The IC125 (Class 43) runs all across the main part of the UK, from Penzance to Inverness. There are crossings on the Cornish Main Line, the Great Western Main Line and the East Coast Main Line where you can see crossing videos. One popular one is Helpston LC

    • @fgwHST43009

      use roblox because they are electric trains. Most electric trains use overhead wires but the south uses 3rd rail.

  • @User-3O3
    @User-3O3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unusual setup, but I'm not sure I fully understand it. Do the barriers remain closed after all approaching trains have passed and only raise if somebody hits the 'Wait' button? If that's the case, then why don't the lights continue to flash until all approaching trains have passed rather than only whilst the barriers are lowering? Makes the whole point of having barriers and particularly wigwags pointless, when you can just simply have a sign that warns people to look and listen before crossing. It is only a pedestrian crossing, after all, and all the lights and barriers seem like an unnecessary expense, especially when we see no end of pedestrians abusing road crossings by jumping over or squeezing through the barriers anyway.

    • @pineappleroad
      @pineappleroad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apparently this crossing was a road crossing at some point in the past
      And the barriers only open when someone wants to cross (and lower again shortly after they have crossed, even if no train is coming)
      This type of crossing is normally only found on roads which not many people use (one example would be a road that leads to some houses, and doesn’t go anywhere else), and I believe the lights go out as soon as the barrier has lowered to save energy, its also quite likely that the equipment at the crossing itself has no way of knowing if a train is actually coming (pressing the button sends a raise request to a signalling centre, where a signaller will then raise the barriers if there is not a train coming)
