    UK SITE- www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BL7GPTJ...
WORLDWIDE- www.amazon.com/Cooking-Hungry... Join us in a boat tour of our small sailing home, a 28ft sailboat called Talisman!
We are inexperienced full-time cruisers on our way from the UK to the Mediterranean, living on our Salterns Stag 28. We brought Talisman in October 2019 on the hard, and begun sailing FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME in June 2020.
We made this boat tour whilst we were living in Birmingham and travelling down to the boat each weekend, learning how to sail (and all about boatwork!)
Our boat is small, but mighty in spirit! So we hope you enjoy this small sail boat tour, and our channel, as we take you on our tiny home ocean adventures.
Let us know in the comments what you think of Talisman, and hit us up with any questions you have! Thanks for watching.

Oh mate, I have a house full of souvenirs and 'stuff' that I'm struggling to throw away or sell. Let me tell you, this stuff is merely a load of big chains binding you to the spot. None of it is necessary, none of it has much intrinsic value, so if you can avoid souvenir type stuff and just own what you need you are on to a winner. This world is so big and so amazing that our primary responsibility os to see as much of it as you can, without rushing any part of it. It's taken me decades to realise that, and I hope I can start really feasting on it before I peg out!

Nice video, not a lot of wasted space, I have a Catalina 30, now after 3 years she has a new transmission I installed but I will keep the new 9.9 Yamaha outboard on as a backup. Redoing electrical now, it's really a rats nest, look forward to your progress, hoping to get a lot of cruising in the San Juan Islands and cruise to Alaska in a couple years when I retire then head down to Mexico and take it from there.

If you want refrigeration just buy a 40 litre 12 volt 240 volt car fridge. I use mine for out back camping and never had a problem. I live in Western Australia and some days it’s 40 degrees plus in the out back, and the fridge just keeps going. But remember, buy cheap buy twice. 😎

That was a nice, straightforward tour, by a couple of down-to-earth British sailors - with no tawdry quasi-romantic musak for a change (thank you!). It seems a bit small for two liveaboards, but if you're comfortable within those limits, that's all that matters. I liked that cheat with the roll of stick-on vinyl for the worktop, where others might squander a small fortune on fancy wood or marble. Don't get too professional and slick; the `ad-hoc amateur' presentation is a worthy effort. Enjoy yourselves - that's what it's about...!

Your willingness to cut the dock lines and just go for it when many people have prevalent feelings are to always feel that boats are never quite ready yet is admirable although stating that you don’t have a holding tank could get you in trouble in certain marinas so be careful saying it while out and about. Pressurised water supplies are great but I wouldn’t be in too much of a hurry to get rid of the manual pump. Having both is infinitely preferable - the leak is almost certainly repairable, it’s usually just an ‘O’ ring that needs replacing

I agree that it is NOT necessary to run all lines to the cockpit. Racers like it, but cruising is another thing. On my last boat I found that I still had to leave the cockpit for many sail handling tasks, even with lines run back. I single hand a lot and didn’t bother to move lines to the cockpit on my current boat. I like the simplicity of the at the mast solution.

Cool storage idea for your quarter berth I saw on another channel: Use two plastic tubs that fit the berth space. Cut a hole on the rear most tub's rim, tie a rope to it long enough to reach your chart desk from the back of the berth. Put the second tub in front of it and shove them both all the way to the back of the quarter berth. When you need something out of these tubs (especially the rearmost one), simply pull the rope and they both will slide out like drawers so you don't have to crawl, stretch and reach!

Whatever happens don't get discouraged. There are so many very nice and helpful people in the worldwide family of cruiser-sailors who will help you if you need it. The community in Levkas Marina are wonderful people and the city is is a great place to get lost in. The Greek Islands are a wonderful, safe place to to enjoy sailing. Visit Kalamos and order a Ravani for pudding. It's simple stuff but it's very nice. My favourite. Fair winds. John & Carol. PS You don't need to be living in the marina to enjoy it's services, (bars).

I've watched quiet a few of these boat tours, from 22' -35'. For me, this is the nicest boat I've seen. The only things I wouldn't do, would be to keep the inflatable inside, where it is. I would keep it in a storage area outside, maybe the area where you said you may paint. I don't think you need to paint the inside, tho I guess it wouldn't hurt. But mainly, I would get the ice box fixed. I know, because I live in Miami, and the heat will get to the food, much faster than in other places, especially England. And the oven and stove, to me, isn't important. Especially since it requires fuel, of some kind, which can be a fire hazard. I would be content with a hot plate, and crock pot. I sail small catamarans, and windsurfers, and am looking for a bigger boat, like this one.

    • @ChasingCurrents
      @ChasingCurrents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for your comment and suggestions. We agree inflatable isn't ideal where it is, we've also tried in the outside lockers but again it's very hard to reach out of there. We're working on a better solution we hope 🤞 we've actually been onboard without refrigeration for 7 months now and it's fine ☺️ we probably find it easier as we don't eat dairy or meat so don't have much use for one. Wow that's awesome, can imagine you have a lot of fun sailing those! Good luck in your boat searches 😁

Excellent video and great looking boat. Your furler might be less likely to jam if you tighten your back stay as the forestay looked a bit slack. Also, flush the lower mechanism out with plenty of fresh water and check the upper swivel is free and the halyard doesn't wrap round the forestay.

I lived and sailed omboard 6 months this summer, next year sailing down to the med.The last 22 feet is my boat number 43, i had lots of bigger heavier , when young even smallet but this one is perfekt for an old man like me ! Space for 8-9 inside to drink beer 👍 And i got it for " free". Boats are cheap in Sweden in Germany they ask 6000-9000 euro for such a small boat !

Great boat, looks strong and sound. First time I have seen one.
You must get a third set of reefing points.
Roller genoas don’t normally set well when part reefed. Think about fitting a storm sail on a removable forestay.
    Perhaps get a third anchor.
Those huge lockers would worry me, if a big wave rip off the lid, the locker would take in tons of water. Also check that there are no openings between lockers and the main bilge, that would e a double disaster.
Look forward to watching the following videos.

    • @ChasingCurrents

Ahh thank you so much! We will hopefully get a third reef in our main as part of the winter jobs. We have already switched out our genoa for a heavy weather high cut jib that has can be reefed 3 times on the furler (has worked very well crossing the Bay of Biscay). There are locks on the lockers to stop them opening but a couple have broke now so this is a good reminder to fix them! Again thank you so much for commenting 😁

That was a good video. I'd never heard of a Saltern Stag before but it certainly gets a good write up in Yachting World. You both strike me as having the right attributes to be successful liveaboards and cruisers. The first of these (IMO) is not having a boat which is too big. IMO again, if you want to minimise stress have simple systems which you can understand and maintain yourselves, and basically try and create a life which enables you to be independent and costs less than you can afford. Tolerate a few hardships and inconveniences rather than go for the big boat, at least until you know you like the lifestyle.
If nothing else I'm sure you've found that living aboard in a marina you meet some very interesting people. In the UK it's relatively cheap compared to living ashore. This latter is something I've been finding in recent years since owning a house! Are there many other liveaboards in the marina?
How are you coping with condensation? That's the worst problem IMO in the UK in winter.
I reckon if you can live through winter together on this boat in the present restrictions and still like eachother at the end you'll be fine!
I've subscribed so look forward to checking out the videos you've made and seeing what you get up to in the future.
It's cold at the moment but the days are really lengthening now. It will soon be spring.
    Cheers from Cornwall.

Thanks so much for your comment. Yes, we hadn't heard of them either - it blew our minds when we went on-board as the layout felt so much more spacious than other similar sized boats and she was in great condition - been looked after well. Couldn't agree more, we're happy with our choice so far. Buying cheap and small also meant we could afford all the appropriate safety equipment for our travels!
Yes we definitely have met some great people, there's 42 liveaboards in total at our marina - some very interesting characters!
We've actually not had TOO much trouble with condensation. We we're getting some at the start of winter, but we hooked up a dehumidifier and that's worked a treat.
Ahh thank you for subscribing, we can't wait for the spring so our big adventure can begin. Really hope you enjoy our videos 😁
