  • Just One is a fun, cooperative word game that is one of my essential games. I use Just One to teach my students about collaboration, critical thinking skills, problem soving and creativity. I also love playing it with my friends for a super fun game night. Either way, this game is a hit.
All you need is this tutorial to walk you through how to play Just One, and you'll see for yourself just how easy it is to learn. It might be slightly harder to play, but you'll probably never want to stop.

Hi Kim ... at first this sounded like it would be much too simplistic ... but after watching you explain the game, it sounds pretty good! I like the feature that eliminates clues that more than one player wrote on their white easel. It seems like this game would be best with at least 4 or 5 people to be in the range of eliminating common clues!

Glad it was helpful! And yes: the game works best with max players so that the guesser gets (potentially) more clues and for the cluegivers to stumble over each other's clues before finding an effective strategy!

If The active player tells the group the number of the word they’re writing clues for…doesn’t that mean they already know the answer? If I say “Write words for #3” then I know to choose the third word no matter what they write. Am I missing something?

In Just One, the players, as clue givers, can write only one word. Period. The guesser will look at all unique clues and guess once. The answer is always one word, too.

@@TabletopTolson That has absolutely nothing to do with my question.
If I am the active player and therefore the guesser, and I produce a card (not looking at it of course) and I tell them to give me clues for the second word on the card, I understand that they will of course write one word clues to give me.
My question is, why would I bother to regard their clues at all, seeing as I already know that the answer is the second word on the card, because that's what I already told them to give me clues for?

I think I understand you now. Thanks for your patience!
The card you select (as the guesser) is facing away from you. So when you say, "Word Number 3," you don't know what Word Number 3 is. But everyone else in the group does. Then they write one word to get you to say that secret word (that you, as the guesser, don't know). Finally, you get to guess what you think Word Number 3 is by reading everyone's (unduplicated) clues and making your best guess.

@@TabletopTolson Oh, I see. I must have been misunderstanding. I thought that the guesser ended up taking the card and having to guess between the options on the card which is correct.
But if I understand you correctly now, the guesser never sees the card when guessing? That makes the game harder than I thought.
