    Hi Coach Philip,
I have got a wrist injury and it is taking a lot of time to heal. The players that I play with told me it is because I don't use the swing it properly and use less of a shoulder and use more of my wrist and that has caused that injury.
Even though its a good exercise that you have are mentioning in here however I feel that if somebody over does it he or she can cause a serious wrist injury> I am going through it myself so I know how frustrating it can be to be to have a wrisy injury.
    Thanks
    Hitesh

Maple Immigration Hi, yes, it is important that the whole arm is used when swinging. This video shows how to strengthen one part of a proper swing, not a replacement. It's true that overdoing an exercise can cause injury but this is true of all types of movements.
The problem with any kind of video like this is that it's impossible to cover all possibilities, but I agree that I should have been clearer about the risks.

Interesting drill. It seems to me that this is more about a forearm action than a real "wrist flick." As you say, doesn't the wrist need to stay cocked to control the angle of the racquet face?

Tavish McDonell Yes, you are absolutely right. I should have called this a forearm strengthener. The wrist should remain cocked all through the motion.

Hi. In your solo practice without a ball you start by holding the racket parallel to the wall and rotate it back and forth. Shown because "this is the movement your tying to isolate". However what I see here is a wrist movement with your thumb pointed further forward. This seems unlike the vertical-against-the-wall position OR bending lower/or positioning your hand lower to take advantage of what seems like an easier - and maybe more powerful - wrist action.
I guess the motion of the wrist in the flicks above. when done properly. is what's done most of the time anyway - as a wrist motion with thumb in a more vertical position -- is what? used hitting the ball when it's high?

Firstly, allow me to apologise for the long delay in replying. What I am trying to promote is more forearm movement and less wrist. By doing the parallel racket rotations, you are re-enforcing the movement limitation of the wrist while strengthening the forearm.
Of course, I am holding the racket by the frame rather than the grip, so that may make it seem dissimilar.
In reality, during matches and hitting the ball, the wrist will move but instead of breaking or snapping the wrist you should be trying to keep it firm.
Pros like El Shorbagy confuse things for club players because they are able to move the racket like it was a badminton racket and still hit the ball incredibly hard AND with lots of control and disguise, especially on the forehand.
      I hope that helps.

That's it my man! I'm bringing a badminton racket to the squash courts next time. 😜

    Coach a question.
what about on the backhand side?
I guess we all tend to use the wrist flick to swing aren't we?

    • @BetterSquash

Yes, you should practice this on both sides. And, yes, we all have a little "flick" in our swings.

In what condition Wrist Flicks must not do? (not more than 15 times?)
    Wrist Flicks advantage and disadvantage
    When to use Wrist Flicks

Vincent, please forgive the delay in replying.
To begin with don't do more than about 20. Increase the number of repetitions over a month or so.
The advantages are that you increase your forearm strength, which can allow you to A: delay shots from the front and B: get shots from the back corners which previously were difficult.
The disadvantage is that if you have poor technique then you may not get any benefit and possibly injury yourself in the technique is very bad.

Hi Phillip, are you still making videos for TH-cam ?

dcp0001a Unfortunately, I have been unable to hit a squash ball for over a year. If I recover, I would love to make more videos, but it won't be for a many months at the earliest.

CoachPhillipNet Oh ok thanks. I only recently came across your videos and found them quite interesting to watch and listen to. Was not aware you are out of action so to speak. Speedy recovery!
