Geoffery Rush was every bit as good as Colin Firth. He was absolutely outstanding
Geoffrey Rush, was outstanding in this film.
Colin Firth in particular,of course, but also all the other actors in this movie have been perfect in their role. Irreplacable. Dialogues, casting, costumes, decors, music, lighting, photography, … make this movie a precious gem.
The two brothers were a perfect example of the adage that power should under no circumstances be given to someone who craves it. A sensible person who appreciates the magnitude of the responsibility wouldn't want it -- and a shy introvert won't make a shameless manwhore of himself with the power it brings.
Bertie WAS the right person for the job, if only because he grasped the size of the burden. NO person with more than two brain cells to rub together would look at a burden of that size and feel confident.
Love to hear Claire Bloom talking so sweetly about Charles Chaplin. I have loved Charles Chaplin for so long. His talent as a film maker, a musician, a dancer and director is extraordinary.
I get so fed up with the ammount of negative sleezy assumptions and things that are said about and him from people who do not know anything about the man. Yes he had his faults everone has, and I am sure he must have been exasperating to work with at times being such a perfectionist, but,
Thank you Caire Bloom for " telling it like it was" ❤❤xx
As a person who had a stammer, my heart was pounding listening to the real kings speech, it was pure Hell to live with
Had? How did you cure it? Or overcame it?
I too was afflicted for many years until I increased in
Confidence eventually
Leaving it behind
In the bible Jesus healed someone with the affliction!
The problem with George was
His speeches were probably
Written by someone else Full of protocol
If he had spoken his own mind
He could have overcome
His impediment
Prince Philip wasn't afraid to offend if necessary!
I think the teacher should have received the Oscar He was great! Great actor!
he got oscar tho, as best supporting actor, the same year colin firth won the oscar
@@ungeblomst No, I just checked recently: Geoffrey Rush was nominated for this role, but he won an Oscar for another role.
You nailed it. He was far better than anyone else! FAR BETTER!
He is a wonderful actor but his career is no more due to scandals around the same time as the movie release.
Had the pleasure of watching this film for the first time just a couple of years ago and it quickly became one of my top five favorite films.
Lionel was more of a brother to Bertie than The Bolter was.
I work as a voice actress, news presenter and Professor for speech at a university in Germany. For young people becoming journalists. And the psychological aspect of speaking and the voice in genereal is huge. You can not seperate it. It is connected and we also know that for very long time. The word „person“ comes from „personare“, wich means „sounding through“. For most of the people, the inner state sounds through their voice to the outside. And this movie shows it nicely.
Colin Firth is the most beautiful man I have ever seen. X
Thank you for your comments.
And he is a terribly good actor! Just watch the beginning of the film "The King' s Speech" when he' s standiing in front of a stadion' s microphone and the audience can see hìs feeling of utter terror when he has to consider speaking out loud in the face of a big audience. In Germany we have a saying【Er schaut]
" wie ein Kaninchen vor der Schlange 🐍 " which means in English [ He looks ]" like a rabbit facing a snake" and I must say that this German saying crossed my mind when I watched the film's beginning without there being a snake or a rabbit anywhere in sight. "Only" brillant acting! Thanks, Mr Firth!
Katrin
Absolutely!
You haven't seen me.

Beautiful, strong movie! Honored Oscar for Colin Firth!
Guy pierce is amazing also.
How do I love thee Colin Firth❤️He’s one of those rare treasures in our life time and aren’t we blessed🌹Of all his work, I genuinely believe this is his best. A lot of challenges and he took them on without hesitation. The main being the stutter and the involvement conquering it. He was perfect. May God bless and protect him always🙏❤️
Can't believe the actor who played"Lionel" was left out of the interview; he made the movie great!
-I'm confused, Geoffrey Rush is definitely present.- Right there at the start, 0:07
Oh, there's a QnA panel around 6:00 where he doesn't appear.
@@krissp8712 Maybe he just could not make it to the interview, but I thought his performance made the movie!
Ikr, perhaps he was booked up with something else but yeah, I was really disappointed that he wasn’t on panel too 😕
I think there were allegations being lodged against Geoffrey which would have most likely resulted in him staying out of the public arena.
I really hope that nothing was ever brought from it as he strikes me as a genuinely great man
@@alexday5892 Omg do I want to know what sort of allegations?? Please don’t tell me it’s to do with women or children 🫤
I absolutely love this movie! In fact, I own a copy. It was done beautifully, it's respectful but not sycophantic in any way. It enjoyed a perfectly balanced script and performances. Regarding the marriage of King George V and Queen Mary, it was actually quite functional in a dysfunctional way. King George and Queen Mary loved each other and told each other- but only in writing. He was a faithful and devoted husband, very much unlike his father, King Edward.
Guy Pierce actually really does look like Edward. Lol.
Guy Pearce is a wonderful actor and was brilliant as David. 😊❤
A simple movie, on how speech can Mesmerized you for two hours
JUST A PERFECT MOVIE.....so difficult to take on the stammering in Colin's showing......so well done
He was so in the role that he still stuttered after the movie if I believe the article from the Guardian. Like Hugh Laurie, who, after House MD, admitted that whenever anyone said "Action" he started limping. Great actors do a great impersonation of their characters.
Colin is such an amazing actor!!
I thought the actor who played Lionel was the star of the movie and deserved the Academy Award.
The Australian actor, Geoffrey Rush, had already won the Academy Award for best actor in Shine. He is one of only 24 people who have won the Triple Crown of Acting. It is unfortunate that "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" was not a film, for Rush should have got the Academy Award for that. Some of Sellers's closest friends said that in the film, Rush was just like Sellers.
@@ianlowery6014 I don't know much about Rush's background and past. I thought Colin Firth had a very good performance, as did the woman who played the king's wife. Thought the actor who played Edward VIII was excellent. Thought the part of Churchill was very weak. Think Rush deserved the Academy Award instead of Firth! Not a fan of the Royal Family!
@@waynethurman2144 Edward was played by renown Australian actor Guy Pearce. Guy has done some good stuff.
Helen Bonham Carter played the King’s wife to Helen’s usual high standard.
Incidentally, Jennifer Ehle, who played Logue’s wife, also starred as Elizabeth Bennet in the 1995 BBC series, Pride and Prejudice, alongside Firth who played Darcy. Apparently they had an affair at the time. I guess they did not at the time of the King’s Speech.
So much for current affairs…
Queen Elizabeth was impressed by the film and knighted Firth because of his role in playing Her father.
I’m not a royal family fan either, but this film caused me to see more their human side rather than seeing them according to their positions.
Just the same, I’m still having problems seeing Charlie and Gorilla (spelling???) as members of the human race.
.
Incredible story of finding those writings of the king and his teacher. Wow.
This movie was amazing without out the quality of the cast this could have been a disaster I thoroughly enjoyed it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And yet, in spite of all the these things he couldn’t do King George was a wonderful king and much loved by the people of Britain and the Commonwealth.
Oh my, I just realized that Helena Bonham Carter (Queen Elizabeth) was also in the Harry Potters Series. Wow. I absolutely loved this movie and one that I rewatch frequently.
Watch her in Lady Jane with Cary Elwes. Great film!
There us a wonderful in-joke in this film. The Archbishop of Canterbury is played by Sir Derek Jacobi, who became known world-wide as the limping, stuttering Claudius in 'I, Claudius'.
A wonderful movie, one of the best of this century so far. I had no doubt it would win the Best Picture Oscar and I was right. Geoffrey Rush in particular was outstanding.
Growing up in the 1950s I knew as a friend of my family a top business man in a city. He sang in choir. He was so kind and offered me and me and my new. husband a holiday on our first holiday a loan of his own beautiful Lake House. I was sick and having our first baby. I wanted to go up to my parents and so had to ring him and cancel. He was so lovely. This brilliant man who stuttered. I would never have known . He put me at at my ease and said are you having a little one. I was so happy , no longer embarrassed. He said he totally understood and was so kind and charming. Not a a stutter was there. How I miss those days. I hope but wonder if I will meet old friends in a later life. I don’t think I will find out much longer. Bless Colin Firth he’s brilliant. He made me cry. ❤️
One of my favorite movies!!! 😍
Tom Hooper: "Aaaand CUT! Okay, everyone - you can stop talking in those ridiculously posh accents now."
The entire cast of The King's Speech: "What do you mean? This is how we normally talk..."
As good as Colin Firth was it was Geoffrey Rush's performance that was outstanding for me. Brilliant actor.
All wonderful actors!
Thank you very much!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the feedback.
Um dos melhores filmes que já assisti! Colin Firth está impressionante como o rei.
This was an incredible movie.
Never realized how mean, vindictive and scornful Edward was towards his brother, George VI. Mocking his speech disability - how low can someone get?! Perhaps it's best that Edward abdicated as he lacked a good character. I frankly wanted to smack him. Edward wasn't one-tenth the man that King George VI would become.
Wellllll you have to take the history here with a bit of a grain of salt. Some things were changed to suit the narrative
How low? He was collaborating with the Nazis against his own government. That low. This is not a theory or rumor.
And I think Colin was right that it’s not unusual for brothers to be quite mean in that respect. Children are like that.
But I think you’re right that it’s not very pleasant to do that as an adult. It actually shows a lack of confidence. And I think it’s also true that he just wasn’t a very good man either. He was a Nazi sympathiser, after all.
Multitalented actor, amazing!!!!
Just brilliant 👏
Magnificent piece.
Omg, thank you so much
You are welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
My favourite movie
What a terrific film this is. 👍🏻
So enjoyed this
And so charming!
A perfect film, period.
Melhor ator❤
Brilliant movie
Nobody can wear a suit or uniform better than Colin.
I loved that movie.
How a masterpiece was crafted, created ✨
Thank you for your comment.
Do you also have the others behind the scenes of this movie? Like full ones?
Or also the deleted scenes?
Great film.
I loved this movie, makes you proud to be a Brit.
Ce roi n etait pas le plus beau ni le plus intelligent mais il etait patriote et avait le sens du devoir!!!
A wonderful film, I’ve watched it several times.
Together with Churchill he was the right man at the right time.
I believe Lionel Logue was working with the prince/king starting in 1926.
No romance, actors, imagination, drama, then no fun. Long live Shakespeare and Britain.
Why did they show David Bamber when he said Anthony Andrew’s?
Why wasn't Geoffrey Rush on this panel?
Other commitment.
He is Australian. Maybe he lives there and was not able to come.
cool
Thanks very much for the feedback.
Disappointed it cut Helena’s conversation out
Where was Geoffrey Rush?
Are promotional videos behind the scenes now?
The director could be James Cameron's twin
My ignorance is showing….Tom Hooper is a Brit!!!! I didn’t know that!!!!
Can you work on more Mamma Mia Videos for me
The Royal Family must have been living in denial not to have seen that David/Edward was unlikely to settle down, marry some sweet, complacent princess and have children. Maybe they thought he'd stay single, keep his mistresses, and eventually be succeeded by his brother or Elizabeth, but otherwise, I think they were kidding themselves.
Indeed, he was a complete ass and a traitor.
Given that he was also a Nazi sympathizer, I’d agree with you.
ok
Where is Jeffery Rush?
That’s a very good question.
Geoffrey Rush had another commitment.
I'm surprised Claire Bloom didn't break her neck in that interview!
Between that and Helena Bonham Carter fiddling with her hands, massaging her neck, staring at her fingernails & looking completely distracted, it was quite difficult to watch. Better idea just to listen……
Colin Firth looks like my ex-husband.
One of the rare instances where actors were cast who weren’t attractive compared with the person they portrayed. Lionel Logue was very handsome compared with Jeffrey Rush, who, though a talented actor, .. not a looker.
He was total and complete balless coward indeed.
