Great solution - I'm working on modifying a flying scot to do races like everglades challenges. I need longer shafts than what is available at low prices. You made your own. What did you make the shafts out of? Or asked differently, how did you build the oars?

@@NoFearReading rowing a tri means length that's for sure 😁. I didn't build them. Carlyle oars with two add ones. Found them cheap. My luck.

@@ericdahlkamp6781 Thanks for getting back to me - how long are they. Love your videos - proves you don't have to spend tens of thousands to have adventures!

@@NoFearReading glad you’ve watched some video. Working on an O’Day Daysailer conversion to camp cruiser for my “age appropriate” boat as my brother says. My last tri, Crosswins, also carried oars. I no longer own the tris. But I seem to recall on Squirt the oars were 8’ shafts plus two separate 12” extenders. Then there’s the blade. Overall I think they were 11.5’. This video shows Crosswins’ oars. Two rowed her, each sitting on a tramp either side. th-cam.com/video/V6gNvKr1Zmk/w-d-xo.html

You might try hatchet-style carbonfiber sculling oars. Would reach the water better, I think. Now if you could only rig a sliding seat and foot stretcher! Very cool as is, though.

Yeah, I’m happy. I know if I were intent on rowing a lot it would be better. But, I just row in/out channels, marinas across shallow flats on occasion. No distance. She rows fine for my 73-year old needs 😂

I was looking at oars or a yuloh. With a 14'6" beam, I was going to need some huge oars. My center hull beam is a meager 26", so I went with popping up the inner portion of my tramps and going with outrigger canoe style paddles.
Solo, I can touch about 4.75 and hold around 3 mph. Two paddlers have hit 6 and can hold 4.5.

Good solution for your boat. I like it. Folks are always telling me I need to scull. Truthfully most of them have never done it themselves. There’s not much instant power in sculling like standing rowing or paddling. It’s a leisurely travel system for calm water, not pointing into chop upwind. I like rowing.

@@ericdahlkamp6781 Sculling oar a yuloh will help get out of a dock, but it's not going to push boats not designed for it in a current or wind.

@@ericdahlkamp6781 Mine is more like a light built version of your Cross 18. It still amazes me about the difference in weight with mine coming in below 300 lbs.

@@wisenber My guesstimate. But your boat is light! The Cross 18 was 600 pounds. Chalk up the weight on Squirt to my amateur overbuild...punches through chop though! 😂 th-cam.com/video/fCGWO2Qv95Q/w-d-xo.html
