I wear the same blue sun hoody in almost all my videos so I was excited to learn about something better. Turns out you’re talking about the very sun hoody I always wear. Awesome video.
@@SouthernHike you at least convinced me to stop thinking about the OR Echo. Guess I’ll just have to get more colors of the Crater Lake like you. Cheers.
In 2015 I started using a camp chair. In 2018 I started wearing a sun hoody. I’m glad the backpacking world always catches up to what I know is awesome 😂 I’ve been loving the MH Crater Lake sun hoody for a long time and it is the best!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Never heard of that brand before. I went to check it out they're sold out on the website only got the largest size available. I'll put it on my list I hate wearing sunblock or putting anything unnatural on my skin so definitely going to be getting one of these eventually! Thanks for the review!
I started wearing the Patagonia in 2018 on my AT Thur Hike and absolutely loved it. I have tried others and recently got the Outdoors Vital one. It requires special washing, but so far I really like it. Their hood design on their gear is the best I have ever tried. Happy Hiking
@@SouthernHike no sir! I am not a fan of merino. The Appalachian Gear Company has come out with an Alpaca one that is an 80/20 blend that people are raving about that I am thinking about getting. Happy Hiking
Looks like a nice one. My first sun hoodie was a Simms brand for fishing and then used for hiking. Now I use Outdoor Research Echo when it's cold and Astroman in the heat. I'm starting to use more fishing gear for backpacking. Sun protection is a big deal.
Nice one Taylor! I have about 3-4 of the Crater Lake! But my new fav is the one by OV. It doesn't have the thumb holes but its a couple ozs lighter for about the same price. Def still has the sun protection as well.
@@SouthernHike nah, I believe it's the altitude hoodie. Think it's a poly blend. My size L is only around 4 ozs. Was thinking about the alpaca gear Co one that doesn't stink but it's like 8-9ozs. Can carry 2 OVs for that weight
You’re not wrong. Hoodies rock. I love my Echo sun hoodies. I broke down and purchased a Jolly Gear Triple Crown Button Down for my planned CT thru hike.
I used the REI sun hoodie last year and threw it in the trash when I stopped at a convenience store in Connecticut. It was heavy, hot, stretched out quickly, and held water like a sponge. You gotta check out a Jolly Gear hoodie (they have thumb holes). Right now, they're the only one I'll use. I know the patterns can be wild and some might not like the button down look but they are great performers and give you more options for ventilation, as well. Another reason to wear a sun hoodie....bugs. Black flies, yellow flies, horse flies, mosquitoes, and every other annoying flying insect that likes to bite your head.
The Outdoor Vitals Altitude sun hoodie is lighter and more breathable than the Crater Lake. Unfortunately the OV does not have thumb holes. I do like my Crater Lake hoodie though. I like their patterns because they are fun.
Greetings Sir, have you had any odor issues with the Crater Lake? I like the colors and price of the Crater Lake but it does not have odor-treated fabric. Looking at the Alpenglow hoodie too. Thanks.
I wore it eight days straight one time and didn’t really have a problem. Always smells great again after being washed. To be fair. I’m not a very stinky person either though.
@@SouthernHike I wonder when people write that the poly shirts smell, if they also have BO. My poly shirts tend to smell bad after long use too, so I suspect Crater Lake will be fine. Thanks for responding.
Great review. I liked your personal opinions and skipping all the bullshit technical specs that some reviewers waste my time with. We can look up all that stuff. We want opinions, strong opinions, by users who've experienced stuff in the wild. Thanks.

It’s really become my go to!!
Haha what’s new now?

Check it out!! Really enjoying it!

I saw that one! Did you get the merino one?

Absolutely! There is some sweet fishing gear sun hoodies also. I’ve just found them more heavy.

Those are sweet looking!
I agree I also have a pair and I like it more than my OR ActiveIce Hoodie 👍🏽
Great sun hoodie. I like the design. Awesome video! Crow
I’ve really enjoyed it man!

I’ve seen those! They look awesome!
I was able to find a hoody with thumb holes, two big pockets and a full length zipper! Absolutely perfect.
Perfect!
We want names!
@@lukaass57 In all honesty i found it on Temu. Its made of polyester but otherwise perfect
I have a sun hoody from Outdoor Vitals that I like.
Awesome!

The weight difference is so minuscule. And honestly the crater lake breathability is great. Guess it’s just a matter of preference. 🤷♂️
I have one too. Love them thumb holes.
Same dude!
Thanks for sharing❤
Crater lake huh? How does it match up with the patagonia? (That's my go to...)
I'm waiting on the sun hoodie tank top...
As I stated in the video I love the Capilene but this one just edges over it! Dude I need the sleeves for the sun. 🤦🏻♂️😂
@SouthernHike Is it the thumb holes? or is it something else? and by the way, Sun's out. Guns Out. 💪💪

Geez! Now I have to buy something else! 👍👍

There’s one great bad side to polyester/nylon sun hoodies; they eventually stink sooner than later.
There are some merino ones
I wish the Mountain hardware had a looser neck collar. I hate stuff around my neck.
Black Diamond and OR are better imho because of the half zip feature..🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
I feel like it turns more into a normal hoodie at that point haha
+1 for BD Alpenglow
