Here is the thing about Soylent, it's like one of those special as seen on tv products that were technically designed for people with specific disabilities or problems but get promoted as something great for everyone. It's not useless, it's not bad, but it's not for every chad.

Back when soylent was still available in Canada (it isn't anymore, unfortunately) I basically ate it exclusively for days at a time. To be fair, I was very anorexic and this was almost a way for me to trick myself into increasing my caloric intake without actually eating real food and feeling the shame and disgust that came with that. I think there is a lot of value in the product, but it definitely is not for the average healthy person and should not be marketed as such. Honestly, if I could still get my hands on it I would still be on a diet of mostly soylent purely because my mental health prevents me from getting adequate nutrition, and that puts myself and my health at risk.

    • @zangell1
      @zangell1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +204

maybe try ensure if it's in canada or something like it? It's not gonna give you ALL the nutrients you need. However, it's way better than nothing when you dont have an appetite. We give it to people in the medical field all the time who are recovering and feel too sick too eat. I've even tried it out of curiosity and its actually really good in my opinion if you dont mind a mild chalky texture.

yeah this video was hard to watch for me because I drink soylent for similar reasons. I drink soylent because I have multiple disabilities in addition to the eating disorder. It was actually a fellow chronically ill friend who introduced me to the stuff. I was hesitant at first, especially cause of all the branding, but it’s really helped me not literally starve and die. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who didn’t have any problems with eating or cooking, but if you have an eating disorder, chronic pain that makes cooking regularly difficult, or genuinely don’t have any time to cook multiple meals a day, these can be really helpful.

I haven't tried soylent, but have had similar experiences. Guess who found out recently that she was allergic to soy as a child? Fermented seems to be ok (i.e. soy sauce) but anything else leads to vomiting and migraines. When I was young this basically meant no food from the store nor teething food products because there was no "eco" or "raw" option back then so every single baby item had at a minimum soy emlusifiers (like most adult items now) if not more, and I would just throw up if I was fed them. Looking back, I basically ate no junk food until I started school because nobody would give me things that would make me vomit. I must've grown out of the allergy as it takes larger quantities to make me vomit or give me migraines now, but I still can't eat a lot of normal processed products.

@@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Many foods such as non-dairy milks, cereals, spreads, and nutritional yeast flakes available in a plant based diet are naturally fortified with B12. This type of B12 can be derived from an isolated bacteria source (not as nasty as it sounds), meaning that we’re not missing out - in fact just one portion of some provide well above the recommended daily intake.
This is where it gets interesting. In most cases this form of fortified vegan-friendly B12 is not bound to protein, therefore it has a greater bio-availability (increased and easier rate of absorption through the gut lining), unlike animal based versions which rely more on the efficiency of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the stomach to break it down to a smaller component, allowing it to pass into the blood stream. Not only is this fantastic for those that choose to eat a plant based diet, but also for those who suffer with digestive problems. Digestive disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chrohn’s Disease, Dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut flora), or low stomach acid production can negatively affect the way food is digested and absorbed, due to either an imbalance of essential bacteria, a physical manifestation, or inflammation. This readily digestible form of B12 does not require your digestive system to work as vigorously, and therefore may help increase absorption rates dramatically where digestion may otherwise be compromised
I'm not even vegan but the B12 myth is just that a myth

I tried soylent to replace my lunches for a month because the idea of just drinking a shake at my job and taking a short lunch that was still nutritionally sound appealed to me.
That said, they all taste like extremely watered down oatmeal, sucralose, and artificial fruit/bad coffee/fake chocolate
The only one that was somewhat decent was the chai one. That one was spicy and toasty and actually was somewhat good.

I still like a good burger every now and then, but after tracking my eating habit for well over a year I realize there are some days I'm not even eating what would be considered 2 full meals. And when I try to force myself my stomach turns to knots and I get nauseous, form eating and the thought of eating. I only got soylent recently, but just drinking a bottle at night when the thought of eating seems gross has done a good bit just to get my body those few extra calories it needs.
And that's after trying the chicken and rice bro life for months and after getting nothing but fast food I know I like for a similarly long amount of time. Both resulted in me just focusing on nausea and dread of eating any more.

@@vlc-cosplayer Chill with the name calling lmao, I'm not a corporate shill just for liking the drink.
Processed food _in general_ is unhealthy, but that's because it's usually just sugar/carbs. Like, peanut butter is a processed food, but it's still good at keeping people full because of the amount of fat/protein it has. Soylent's the same way.
If people are drinking _only_ Soylent for a week, obviously they're not going to have a good time. It's not meant to replace every meal, it's just a quick and easy option for when you need to eat something. And the nice thing about it is that it has like every nutrient you need in one drink, so it's genuinely a better option than oatmeal for breakfast.

Chocolate Mint is going to be super trendy in 2022. Have you seen the movie Soylent Green? "the people will do anything to get what they need"

I thought it was a great product when taken in addition to my "normal" diet while on a camping festival in the desert. Just existing in that environment saps a ton of energy so having additional calories and nutrients was great. Would never have this in my normal day to day

So are we just not going to talk about the fact that this product is named SOYLENT??? So no one’s thinking of Charleton Heston yelling, “People!” ??? Okay, then.

it was named that on purpose so people would start talking about it. and since a lot of people are pointing out the name, you included, it worked.

@@im8081 *SPOILER* yeah but for people who have read the book or seen the movie, that guarantees that they will NEVER buy or consume the product. The plot is literally about people eating a product that they didn't know was made from cockroaches and corpses.
