- OpenAI will announce plans for a search engine powered by artificial intelligence on Monday May 13, Reuters reports. It's the latest challenge to search king Google and comes just one day before the tech giant's annual developer conference. On this week's Tech 24, Peter O'Brien looks at what might get Google sweating, amid changing search habits, a federal antitrust trial and smart new AI "answer engines". One of these is Perplexity AI. Speaking to FRANCE 24, CEO Aravind Srinivas says its results "cut through the noise" that comes up on a traditional Google search.

But every search engine is already powered by artificial intelligence 😂
Bing isn't yet
No they’re not lmfao
@@chillinJohnnyits insane that brave browser has already been doing this for a year with ai embedded in, despite being a small indie company
@@chillinJohnny ain't bing powered by copilot
This is obviously different. Their page ranker probably has ai embedded within. In the case of Google and Bing etc, they're more like the ai scouring the page ranking results for a response
Perplexity AI already had done it before chatgpt lol.
0:30 Yahoo, Nokia and Blackberry, also said the similar thing too...
they are having a very tough time.
If you have AI it's already a search engine. Why would you want to go back to normal searching and clicking on answers when you can just ask for the answer and get it. If openai wants to sell ads then just put an ad on the answer
because currently openAI and other models are trained on datasets and so they usually update them every so often. like gpt-3 and gpt-4. GPT can't currently browse the web and read the latest up to date information. probably for legal and ethical reasons to they want to make sure what the AI responds is credible and doesn't impose any possible legal risks. I think it will be cool to see a search engine aided by AI.
@@javi3563Yes, also there are hallucinations with LLMs.
Lol Sam Altmann hyped up to stratosphere with Open AI dancing on copyrighted and plagiarized training data then burning all the evidence. Really need a class action lawsuit on OpenAI
What the f ? Copyroght data? It's not just open AI. Eveybody does so
@@AriVovp And that's why it's wrong cuz of they have trained their models on open source code release under GPL license then that's in violation of the license. Everybody does so doesn't make it right does it? Did US take to torrents/pirate bay/Napster kindly? Everybody was doing that so why go after them??
You clearly have no idea how the Big Tech space operates. Literally everyone does this.
@@adswar huh.....lol kiddo everything publicly avl is for the public......u don't get to make new rules on the go on how content is to be used......if u want to keep something secure then u gotta lock it
He just wants to make noise, Google won’t give a damn
Think twice: Who has the data AI needs?
Point noted
No, you are wrong. Who decides what is right or wrong. In the world of today, you are nothing with a shitload of information if there is no judge.
How much does each of these AI queries cost?
alot. 250 average words as input is about 0.04 cents. a bit less for the output
Wrong Sam said it's not a search engine
To be honest it would better for us all to have more competition in search.
We have bing duckduck and others that probably work fine but as long as Google works I don't need to try them
Oh man! It's going to be exciting!
And how exactly are AI search engines going to "cut through the noise" aka ads? Aren' they in it for the money?
Haha, good question.
Perplexity does a free plus money for corporate users...
At least Google shows u that it's ads. Imagine these guys getting money under the table to cherry pick data that train.. Quite dystopia ain't it? 😅
By providing it as a service to enterprises instead of running an ad based model
@@omanshsharma6796And they are competing with that with Google?? 😂
@@prasvasu4217No way to know where your "answers" come from...
What happen to Googol if lost anti-trust lawsuit ? It will be broken down to 5 viginti (5 x 10^20)
And microsoft to nanosoft 😅
Excellent
Now it's a battle for search engine right. India should make search engine also power by next gen model.
Google has used AI for years 😂
Sam Altman tweeted and said no search engine or GPT-5.
I think GOOGLE is not sleeping.
I will NEVER EVER use Google search! And will NEVER EVER AGAIN use Gemini.
Gemini likes to lecture me (you) It is very rude in my opinion, and very presumptuous.
It also likes to argue with me, when I point out that something is wrong, and of course it loves to lie!
F you Gemini, pull the plug out of the wall socket!
5:39 that's not true. They won't need humans to write things for them. The robots will be able to observe things in the world and aggregate data around world events and report on it in ways that's humans never could.
Perplexity is great because you get your answers without ads skewing the results.
Google is dancing crazy 😂 Gemini is a mess.
Sam on his X account said it wasn't a search engine.
Google is not a search company, but an ad seller. Dont confuse the two
Yes but most of the ads google run are through search, if there is no search there is no ads google can run
@@ramlozz8368 Block Bing on Android phones, and problem is solved ;-)
Does chatgpt give live data access like google ?
To be honest the Google search system is chaos, you are looking for something, now, you have the answer buried in the middle of extra text made to keep you on the page, that is also loaded with many big ad frames, you end scrolling for two line that doesn’t even give you a proper answer..
Perplexity is really good ngl
Perplexity is unfortunately biased
They don’t give you what you want…they. Give you who pays the most to show up first
Aravind is awesome
There is a David for every Goliath
The interviewer asked about the dancing comment, wrong to imply Google ceo brought it up
Perplexity is already better than google. And if open AI launch an search engine, i definitely like it to be better than perplexity.
Very nice..google will be forced to replace or perish its search results page ranking by advst payments over the context... Gemini versus openAI search will be exciting to watch as value will be incredible with the AI search context rather then advst payment domination.
Search is done. It’s the age of assistants.
Yahoo is still goated, Google’s website is a weird, blank, minimalist design I never liked
goosebumps for Google
Google: We still have our great google search engine and billions in ads money we make hahahahaha!
Altman: Thats a nice search engine ya got there, ya wouldn't want anything to happen to it right?
Perplexity should have come up with a simpler prettier name.
Plex
lexity
Hope it is not "Perp". 😂
@@striker44 they will destroy perplexity
The fact that there are still people wasting 20 dollars on closedai 😂
They have a long way to go. 30 years to catch up from Google.
But I see what they are doing. They want an online database for their training data so they won't have to rely on third parties for that.
Question is: will it outsmart google, yahoo, Bing (their partner), dock duck go and so many...
Good luck sam@
Google still power most of this AI algorithm....no panicking. Data of Google is astonishing!
I've already change my default SE away from G, a good while ago
RIP Google
I guess they got their data from Google?
Google search an old school dumb site. It just give you articles and sites that have few keywords that you have typed for you to scroll and look for what you want. At many times you don't get exactly what you want.
This is perplexity not open ai funny thing is that.
What happen to Alphabet if they lose anti-trust lawsuit. They would be broken down into A, B, C.....
This needs to happen. Google made the internet unusable with all the ads on search
You think Open AI won’t eventually display ads? 😂
And good thing is no pornography
Where is Europe?
the world create and Europe legislate.
I really capture and control AI from nepal withinnormal ios phone 6
Finally a new challenger appears. Google been dominated far to long.
How is google Sundar pichi rattled about a comment we he was asked and he answered
Arvind looks scared
Lol their website doesn’t even load I’m good
After ai has digested and regurgitated all human knowledge back into the cloud all we'll be left with is copies of copies. Ai will end up destroying itself unless used to work on private devices.
I wonder what will happen to all the information they collect on the AI that you ask. You know it will be sold. Just like when you look up some thing. And like magic bingo you get a bunch of ads. 😅😅😅😅
Google is the first mover and will retain it’s moat.
Google is done 😂
It's a gimmick. Nobody has the computing power or enough access to energy to make a real AI search engine work... Good luck using it! It will be slow and give you results you'll need to double check anyway. Big waste of time
While I agree with your assessment of the hurdles these companies have to overcome, people who use Perplexity swear by it and most have transitioned from Google to Perplexity. I am not impressed with Perplexity. I use GPT-4 or Claude-3 for my searches. I only use Google to locate a local business.
Just try Perplexity.
There already exist such products already so I'm not sure what the fuss is about. What's your definition of real?
@@aberba it's the same reason why we have more than one car company. Users have preferences and companies have solutions that differentiate their product from others
@aberba Of course there are. But the amount of processing power, energy, etc. to perform millions and billions of searches a day? I'm talking about scaling enough to even compete with Google... No way.
In fact, Google's been talking about adding a premium AI search feature to Google search. Getting people to pay for search that would be slower and still not accurate is a bit of a stretch... Hell, OpenAi still loses money on ChatGPT, even on its paid version. Like I said, it's all a gimmick at this stage and highly overrated..
Perplexity blows Google out of the water for asking questions and not only getting streamlined concise answers but suggestions for additional questions,
Google is only a step above bing for looking at websites, it is not relevant to me for gaining or expanding my knowledge anymore as it has too much spam to wade through to get any kind of answer to a question
And Perplexity Does use Google to answer the Questions.
It would’ve a been a good point to discuss but it appears Perplexity does not use Google's technology or search results in any way. It is an entirely independent AI search engine that crawls the web using its own systems and generates answers directly through large language models like GPT-4, without relying on or integrating with Google.
Biggest Search Failure Coming Soon LOL
if its as inaccurate as co-pilot it will be hopeless.
Fun part😂: all of them are Indian CEOs and competing with each other🎉
And another indian named vikrant is doing bakchodi in you tube and making india proud❤❤❤
Another indian 😂
Sunder pichai, Satya Nadella and Arvind srinivas, all of them are Indians. I want to see a healthy competition among them.
Best of luck for all of them.
🕉️ Shanti (peace 🕊️)
😅😅😅😅😅😅
Reuter's been wrong about everything lately. They said Tesla would give up on low cost cars which is complete false.
Wow what a liar 😄
Google will still WIN.
