I just watched your Firth of Fifth video and I started pantomiming playing drums along with you. I only played drums in concert band as a kid in school, but hearing Mr. Collins and Genesis on the radio and on MTV growing up, he's why I wanted to learn. This is fantastic! Well done! Rock on, man!
When Genesis first started touring the US it required a bit of a road trip from NC to get their concert sites. The closest was Newport News, Va. The first time I went to that venue it seemed like a basketball arena with maybe 2/3 of the place empty. I was able to walk behind the stage and take some pics. I was no more than 50 feet behind Phil. The view was more directly behind him than in your clip. Phil was a little more animated than you but the similarity is there. Keep going, man. You’re really tuned in here. (Watching this last bit I’m almost certain this was the tour I talked about above.)

Damn this is awesome I worked on making a sort of looking replica kit of his black gretsch toms but I’m still not done yet. Do more when you get the chance like the 2007 drum duet. 👍👍

Obviously, you are well versed in your lessons😃. So are you “self-taught” in your Drum playing skills, or do you credit someone else? And if so, do you wish to share their name?
For the most part, I’m self taught and have been playing for my whole life! I took some lessons for a few years to improve technique and reading though
It's just a Yamaha Stage Custom but I ordered a couple of extra toms separately. The original kit came with 10" 12" 14" and 16" toms and a 20" bass drum and then I bought an 8" and 14" rack tom separately
@@Kingoftherodeo08 The main kit was bought from ebay for something like $800 or $900, I don't remember. The extra toms were just bought off amazon and those weren't too much
Great effort, not sloppy at all. At least you have similar sizes to Phil, to get the proper sound. You can't play this track properly on anything other than the right kit. It just doesn't work.
@@officialdavidhale Brilliant touch too, and it really illustrates how you've studied and replicated every single lick (and the placement of every lick!) based exactly on what Phil was playing. This is what I always strove to do when I was learning how to play drums while listening to Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, etc., during the era when those songs were being released (although I'm not so good at it any more). Your understanding of the song (and Phil's technique) is deep, and your performance was OUTSTANDING. I think it helps to tell other people what a great drummer Phil really was. Thanks for posting.

The drum kit you are using looks exactly like Phil's White Gretsch concert Toms he used in 1984 to 1987. Pretty cool 👌
