    I really liked number 14 - the metallic VW bag reflection. 👍 definitely playful and as Alex K seemed to suggest - takes some guts to get in close with some subjects :)

    Another great episode. I think most of us here can relate with Alex as in we’re still trying to see and find our interests through experimentation and that street photography is not just about going out and reacting to random things that we think look interesting at the moment. Sean and Alex made great points about how much dedication goes into getting real interesting street photos. I, too, had fallen into that social media trap of posting things about anything just to keep active and post something for the sake of the algorithms and it did start making me blind to see.

    Alex Rossa! I'm so happy this worked out for you. There were so many images I'd never seen before. I'm also going to take away 'tightening my focus' from your review - I'm locked into my geographical space; pandemic dictated that! Good points made by all. Thank you, Jeff, for putting this together.

      We might be wrong, but I believe he uses "films" when referring to his TH-cam videos. If that's incorrect, I'm sure someone will let us know.

    Interesting, not one word on the only gem in the set. Alex, get in tight, stay wide and let the emotion come at you. Practice only this for one year, every shoot. You'll have less photos but way more bite, authenticity, drama, humanity.. and you'll have something unique. The rest, if you focus improving there, same mediocrity as most others, just getting better at it. But the blood stained gate/demo shot, now your saying something worth listening too. Be bold my friend, step in, you felt it here, your gut responded and you followed through. I'll argue that here is your way forward. Schieße niemals mit Angst, schieße mit Liebe.

      @@JohnDrummondPhoto The woman screaming through the bars surrounded by others in blood stained masks/clothes, arms outstreched towards the camera. Got my attention. Popped up several times but no-one commented.

      Thank you very much Dan. It‘s hard to speak about all pictures in this time. I totale agree with your german quote! The emotional part is very important and I try to transport the emotions with my camera. That picture was made at the „Zombie Walk“ in Frankfurt, great crazy people and good moods :-) I’ve had tons of fun at that day! Greetings Alex

      @DanScott1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexrossa101 That was a good image, caught the moment and expressed it well compositionally and in emotional content. Street isn't just pretty pictures, you need content! Spend some good time like this in close with wideangle, it will train you well. Be careful not to be the same style as you currently see with YT street photography, find your own voice. Go play with crazy people and get some close up practice in - important to expand your range and build confidence.

    Loved listening to this video great to hear Alex and Sean , it's so subjective though isn't it the women screaming through the bars got me too and the silhouettes I just loved

    • @TheCritHouse
      @TheCritHouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christine, you're right, there is a lot of subjectivity in these things. That's why it's so important to get feedback from someone you trust.

    Cyclist is set amid so many geometrical shapes... arrows, arches, etc.
    Alex (photographer) could try much darker treatments in line with Trent Parke (Minutes to Midnight), Eamonn Doyle (On, Made in Dublin) and the others collected in the three volumes of MONO.
    Minutes to Midnight was the result of 3 extensive roadtrips. Eamonn Doyle came to attention for a number of series all shot within a very limited space near his home.

    Alex K mentioned Fan Ho had favourite haunts and the staircases. If you come to HK the staircases are still here in Central Market but look a little different since the market was modernised. His target time was about 3.45pm. It’s still an incredibly photogenic place. I work the same area over and over - from Central to Sai Ying Pun. Lots of small side streets with deep contrasts shadows at different times of day. Great to explore.

    Well, I am a little bit confused, Sean. What is left from your credo "Photograph what makes you Happy (Ignore the Labelmakers and Gatekeepers)? What you (and Alex) say in this video does not seem to fit with that tip or recommendation. Am I wrong or just too narrow in understanding?

    • @TheCritHouse
      @TheCritHouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike,
      We will try to speak for Sean, which is probably not wise. That they make suggestions other than photograph what makes you happy isn't in contradiction of that, it's in addition to that. Photograph what makes you happy, but consider these other things too...

    Both Alex and Sean REALLY looked closely at the images and had useful technical suggestions (blown highlights) but the photographer, Alex, begins by admitting that there is no overall aim...i.e. there is no actual project to discuss
