I thought it was great on the Capitol Locher room reunion that Constance Towers, Catherine Hickland, Nicholas Walker and Allan Locher all praised Marj Dusay as an actress and as a human. Constance and Nicholas had loved working with Carolyn Jones and really adapted to Marj as her replacement. It's amazing that Marj would play these strong, scheming women but in real life was an absolute sweetheart.
Marj had a great line on "Capitol" where she compared her daughter Brenda's wedding dress to something out of "The Addams Family", a tribute to her predecessor Carolyn Jones. Who knew what lay ahead with Alexandra and Vanessa?
I missed the finale because of work. Are you saying the writers did a cliffhanger to get back at the "powers that be" for cancelling them?! They got back at their own fans by giving them no closure.
Isn't it a soap opera cliche to constantly have never ending cliff hangers though? This ending made it more memorable tbh. I thought it was a pretty ballsy way to go out.
Generations left on a cliffhanger as well. And rightfully so. They were actually spinning a good show by the time NBC canceled them before 2 whole years on air. Who can gain an audience that quickly, especially going head to head with Y&R at the 12:30-1 timeslot! Very sad the state Daytime Drama ha gotten to. There should be more than 4! Turns out NBC had it all with Generations, DAYS, AW, and Santa Barbara. I'm confident that lineup would've thrived if they let each show stay true to themselves. I also can't believe another network didn't pick up Santa Barbara or Capitol - (it was not a low rated show by any means) which had to infuriate fans at the time. But, OLTL was holding its own in the ratings when it was axed, compared to the time. Soapnet should've went streaming or something instead of ending. It's all just horrible and depressing.
@@SB-px8oc The line-up wouldn't have thrived. Shows get canceled for a reason, either they aren't bring in enough profit and/or something cheaper and more profitable can be put in it's place. SB, AW, Generations, and Capitol all got canceled because they weren't bring in enough $$$.
Yes, James Lipton acted on soaps in the 1950s ("The Guiding Light"--CBS) and then began writing them around 1964-65 with a stint as headwriter of "Another World" (NBC), and then eventually taking over headwriter duties on "Capitol" (CBS) during it's final 6 months or so. Lipton didn't have much success as a headwriter on AW...or on Capitol. Not only did he get replaced fairly quickly on AW, but he took Capitol in some bizarre directions during his time with the show before cancellation.
Oh, how I loved CAPITOL and have held its cancellation against B&B to this day. I still have my VHS of this episode and love Myrna telling the "children" to "choose sides!" when Sam's blonde blackmailer stands behind her. Terrific acting. Sloane was no slouch, either. Thanks so much for the memories.
CAPITOL was a great show...and Marj Dusay & Deborah Mullowney incredibly beautiful and talented ladies. This was a clever, original way to end a series...with well written, thought-out cliffhangers rather than just tidy, happy endings. Too bad it was so unceremoniously axed to make room for BOLD & BEAUTIFUL.
NelsonAspen But James Lipton as their head writer ultimately sealed Capitol’s fate, and Michael Brockman (who was running CBS daytime at the time) knew that B&B would be a worthy replacement.
I realize this is 12 years later, lol. But I stopped watching probably early 86. I have been trying to watch the rest in pieces. Maybe you know why Trey married that young woman who seemed so out of place, whatever her name was at the end. And did Wally and Brenda get back together? Also, I know Mark Denning's actor left because they made him a traitor or something. How did people find out about that?
I was a Search for Tomorrow fan and was devastated that CBS cancelled the show for Capitol. But I was told when producer John Conboy left Young and Restless for Capitol that Bill Bell had plans for Bold and Beautiful to go on the air within 5 years.
thank u btm! i didnt realize so many stars from other shows (now) was on that show...just from this brief clip i see Jill from Y&R, Lindsay from OLTL, Alex from GL and Helena from GH...who else was in the cast thats notable?
I was not old enough to have watched capitol but I have read about it in my soap history book. I love this video having heard what happened in the final episode and it's great to see it. I love anything Marj Dusay is in. I think it's terrible how they canceled it just because Bill Bell wanted to do another soap.
i watching these episodes now oh god after all these years .i never missed one it was the best of all soaps pity the way it ended.cant remember it all but i hv flashes and when it finised it started anathor soao was called loving qwando si amo era in italiano, these r greaat memories thanks alot
I still miss Capitol . They could have had both Capitol and the Bold and the Beautiful on back to to back. I loved Sloane and Prince Ali both as characters and actor/actress
When looking at Capitol, it feels like you're watching a newscast. The opening, the storyline, the writing, and the font style at the end makes you think of CBS NEWS.
I remember watching this with my mother along with Y&R. I love B&B now..as well as Y&R and I don't hold this show's cancellation against B&B, because B&B was a REALLY great show in the past as well...
wow, thats messed up...well i always heard of this show but not that familiar with what it was about...whats the premise? and how long was it on the air?
The ending WAS original. Thank you for posting this. I saw the last episode and I still have it on VHS. Who murdered Prince Ali, Sloane's huaband? I remember that the young princess whom Ali married was killed on their wedding day. I hadn't seen the show for a while, then I saw this episode. I heard that Ali was killed on his honeymoon with Sloane. Was that true? This was a great show. Thank you again.
My last memory was the city of Washington DC blew up. I remember because the next day Bold & The Beautiful came on. I don't think this is last episode.

Marj played Blair Warner's mother on The Facts Of Life.
@@good03boy And Pamela Capwell number 2 on Santa Barbara..Pam Ewing hasn't even had her accident yet !! Xd
Deborah Farentino was also in Stephen king Storm of the Century
Daytime TV has gone down the tubes with lousy talk & cooking shows. The world is ending as we know it.
I miss the days of soap operas and game shows
I always read about this ending, but never saw it! Thanks for posting
I wish I could see this soap from the beginning
oh, thats Marj Dusay! loved her on Guiding Light:-) hope to see her on something else soon...i miss GL...
Marj Dusay passed away last year in 2020 aged 83. She was brilliant in this show and as Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light. She will be be missed.
Marj had a great line on "Capitol" where she compared her daughter Brenda's wedding dress to something out of "The Addams Family", a tribute to her predecessor Carolyn Jones. Who knew what lay ahead with Alexandra and Vanessa?
She was also Blair
Warner’s ultra posh mother on “The Facts of Life!”

Bell and P/G had more pull with the network?

Thanks for posting this. I loved this show.
And then the following Monday, The Bold and the Beautiful premiered on CBS. And the rest is history.

Dont forget that Lipton created the short lived soap opera THE BEST OF EVERYTHING which, ironically, was the worst of all the soaps that year.
I won't give away the cliffhanger, but what a cliffhanger

Lol. I so agree. I've held Capitol's cancelation against Bold and Beautiful to this day. It was such a good soap.
Bold an d Beautiful wasn't very good. Good soaps on CBS are gone

I know. This finale wasn’t creative at all. Jessica Tate suffered the EXACT same fate.
Thanks for posting this clip. I really liked Capitol, but wasn't happy the direction it look its last 6 months.
I have waited since I was 15 to see this! I'm 32 now. Thank you!

This is. The very last scene of the show was Sloane standing in front of the firing squad.
did not care for this show hated its replacement bold and beutiful more.cbs should have kept search for tommorrow back then
Yes, I remeber this.
Maybe we could find out what happened after this, since THE TALK is going off the air. Give Kelley Clarkson a break!

I was hoping the patriarch of the Clegg family was going to divorce Myrna because he wass gay!

i hate the way this ended? didn't the fans deserve a better ending?
thanx! :)
Whatever happened to that evil woman named Paula on the show? She was very vindictive!
R.I.P. Marj Dusay
Janis Paige was a HOTTIE!
