LOL young Vivica. I used to watch this show just for her. I remember this fight vividly. Whoever choreographed this fight did an outstanding job, I must say.
THANK YOU!! I was one of the few people who chose GENERATIONS over THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS at 12:30PM and this was one of my favorite episodes. NBC never really gave this show a chance!
So what led up to this catfight? Doreen had an affair w/Adam using a fake name (Eve), but Doreen didn't know that Adam was the son of her best friend, Ruth Marshall, and Adam didn't know that Doreen was his mother's best friend, or even that Doreen was married. Doreen soon found out that she was pregnant, but she didn't know whether Adam or her husband Martin was the father of her baby. She ended up giving birth to a baby girl, Danielle, and paternity tests later proved that Adam was indeed the father of Danielle. As a result of this, Martin divorced Doreen, and when Maya, Adam's girlfriend, found out about Danielle's paternity, she blackmailed Doreen into staying away from Adam, especially since she wanted to marry Adam. Soon after Danielle was born, Doreen began seeing Maya's father, Dr. Daniel Reubens (played by Richard Roundtree), which Maya didn't approve of, and thus began the bitter rivalry between Maya and Doreen which boiled over into this big brawl.
I don't remember watching this live, but did catch "Generations". What a great throwback. When I heard the baby crying and realized that it had somehow slept through all that, I was done for!
I was a big fan when Generations originally aired. A lot of my friends were. I was just talking to one of them on the phone and somehow we mentioned Generations and then Doreen and she told me to immediately go and check this video out. OMG! This is so good!!! We're definitely going to tape a re-enactment of this!
Watching this makes me realize how much I miss Kristoff St. John. Watched him here and as Neil Winters on Y&R for 28 years. R.I.P. Gone but never forgotten and indelibly written in the hearts of innumerable soap fans.
I interviewed Jonelle years ago when she was on Dr. Quinn. She's an amazing actress indeed. I never saw this clip but I remember it being the first black bictch smackdown in soap opera history way before Dominique Deverauex arrived on Dynasty. Folks went crazy about this scene! Meanwhile, it was Generations that made a multi-ethnic soap like Passions possible.
Generations aired from 1989 to 1991 on NBC. Dynasty introduced Dominique Deveraux in 1984- to 1987 so Dominique had numerous catfights before this aired.

Good Lawd! It's so sad this show was doomed from the start. A third of NBC's affiliates would not shorten 1 hour midday newscasts to 30 minutes or drop local programming in cases where the network's affiliates did not air the game show 'Sale of the Century' which 'Generations' replaced. Add the fact that this show was up against the second half of ABC's hour long, one upon a time ratings powerhouse, 'All My Children' and competed with CBS' then two-year old new 1/2 hour soap "The Bold & The Beautiful", it's safe to say 'Generations' went out of the gate when it premiered with the deck stacked against it. Sad, because this was actually a GREAT program and those who watched until its cancellation in 1991 remember it fondly.
