  • Producing Technetium | Major Clinical Breakthrough at the Centre de recherche du CHUS
    bit.ly/1yNEM6z
A clinical study demonstrates that technetium produced in a cyclotron is equivalent to that produced in a nuclear reactor.
Researchers at the Centre de research du Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CRCHUS) unveiled today the results of a clinical study demonstrating equivalency between cyclotron-produced technetium (Tc-99m) and that produced in a nuclear reactor.
The result of many years of research, this major clinical breakthrough will significantly affect the quality and safety of care delivered to patients.Based on the study's findings, not only are the CRCHUS's medical-imaging research positioned as leaders in this area, they are demonstrating that tomorrow's supply of medical isotopes can be produced with a promising green technology.

No Audio? Would be much more helpful with audio.

Years ago i saw the liquid sodium cooling loop for a small cyclotron beam generation head blow out. It made a mess of the cables, fried a few sensors, and caused a small fire. It took a couple days to fix is and clean up the mess. Thankfully the part was nowhere near the bits that turn radioactive.

I guess this video doesn't need sound to be entertaining. I guess some silent films can speak for themselves.

Those transitions with the blurred still shots are annoying. I keep thinking my browser has frozen.

I'm sure this is very important research to help sick people but.......I look forward to some hilarious over dubbing in the future.

Recently I had myocardial scintigraphy, and become radioactive for few days. My GM counter reacted at 6m distance from me. It lasted for few days, then it decays. Pretty interesting experience being radioactive - a lot radioactive. I have video about that.

I was astounded at how hot I became. Same isotope, sam procedure. 30 mCi !! Wow,

@@NormReitzel Yes. At my papers, there was 15 mCi 'only'. Still hot.

So what do you want to call this revolutionary piece of technology used in synthesis of lifesaving medicine?
    Cyclotron.
You serious? Like a transformer? We seriously cant name it that-
Its called a Cyclotron. End of story
