Plague Roach sneaks into the cloud base of his deceptive robot enemies.
The perfect ending... Positive in the apocalypse... Pessimistic in paradise...
kind of poetic. In a desolate, hopeless wasteland Plague Roach finds hope in the very fact that he is still chugging along, yet in a paradise akin to the garden of Eden he gets hung up on something as simple as a headache. I don't know if that was intentional or not.
It’s funny because when I saw this live I will admit I suffered a bit of a “…huh?” moment when it ended there. I admittedly was a bit stoned which I never really am or get anymore, but when I came back I was like “pffft, LOL. Duh!”
To reply to the latter comment, it’s definitely poetic, and was for sure intentional as a comedic irony. Even the drum fill relishes in the moment

The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of post-modernist art most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Plague Roache's optimistic nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Ivaylo Durmonski literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Staying Positive in the Apocalypse truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Plague's existential catchphrase "Oh that time I got drunk and woke up with a tramp stamp of Popeye smoking a crack pipe," which itself is a cryptic reference to Drue Langlois epic "Can of Whoop-ass". I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Drue Langloi's genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Staying Positive in the Apocalypse tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
I love how the robots entire existence was reduced elaborate schemes to harass the most positive apocalypse survivor in all of fiction.
Reminded me a lot of I have no mouth and I must scream

I like the character progression with Plague Roach, normally he's willing to give benefit of the doubt with anyone he came across. Now he doesn't hesitate to open up a can of whoop-ass on their metal hides.
I like that it's a backwards progression tbh. Slowly losing humanity in a wasteland of machines.

- Lament what remains of humanity alone in a doomed world.
- Step into a great unknown where you exist as an isolated anomaly.
I could not be so strong as Plague Roach.
Honestly I wouldn't have taken the truce either but the future without humanity and an unknown level of flora and fauna would be too terrifying to me. At the very least I would be able to TRY and figure something out in that weird lil robot base.
I'd probably stay and hope that the moss would save the planet sometime in the future. It would be lonely, but at least I could be at peace with the knowledge that life will return to the planet some day

That robot would try to get into your head, and destroy you very slowly because its life goal is to snuff out of existence everything so that no one may love again . hard bash into a corner

I appreciate how we get to see all of Roaches flaws on display. I bet it felt cathartic for him in the end to finally be safe enough to express and feel negativity after soldiering on for so long.
I think he made the right choice in destroying the robots. Roach is the last of his kind. I can't blame him after all the torment they put him through.
He'll probably be a sourpuss among all those care bear looking creatures for a long time. But it'll make those moments of happiness and positivity all the more genuine.
I think you brought this to a wonderful conclusion Drue. Thank you for all the wonderful hours of entertainment with this character.
In the end, the message I take away from this series is...
"I am alive, and that is enough."
I'd say it's closer to: "Everything you throw at me only motivates me to keep going, by reminding me what I'm fighting for."

Staying Pessimistic in the Paradise
Good on Plague Roach. He avenged humanity and was classy enough to sing a beautiful duet with his enemy before destroying him.

I love how the third paradise creature comes up to Plague Roach like a K-Mart employee asking him to lower his volume.

@@xxDrain It's neither. It's simply human nature. You grin and bear it when it's miserable, and you find something to complain about when it's too easy. I've done it, you've done it, we've all done it.
If we never hear from Plague Roach again, I'd like to imagine that he warms up to the little creatures after a while. He probably needs to reintroduce himself to exterior positivity slowly, pace himself like someone who's been starving. Some day he might end up living a good if mildly annoying life as an educator and ally of the little beasts. I especially hope that they can help him heal from the painful life he has lived.
Plague roach put in the work to overcome his toxic environment, he deserves a world where he doesn't have to struggle anymore.
tbh I thougth he would just start kicking ass out of annoyance.

The undisputed king of stream of consciousness improv dialogue all alone in his apartment for hours every single day
Hmmm so maybe Plague is only capable of a limited amount of positivity, which was perfect for the overly negative wasteland.
But now, faced with a highly positive environment, his minimal positivity is dwarfed and lays his inadequacies bare for him to see.
makes me imagine a sequel where he hunts these weak little gremlins, ties them up and teaches them about the harsh truths of the universe.
I think it's more of being able to be negative for once , he had to be positive throughout his journey in the wasteland or else perish by the hands of the robots, now he has the freedom and safety to express any emotion naturally.

I really like that Plague Roach got it together and didn't take any shit from anyone when he raided that base. What a nice conclusion.
I love that this evil robot mastermind decimates all of mankind but when he fights Plague Roach its just sloppy hand to hand combat and i love that

I just want to say that I adored this series. As someone who struggles a lot with pessimistic and cynical tendencies, Plague Roach was rather inspirational for me. While the title says it all, a story in an apocalyptic setting that actually has themes of optimism and real hope for the future is rare. This series wasn’t simply funny and creative (I’ll never stop laughing at the ‘modern art’ torture bit) it genuinely made me feel happier and more hopeful.
I'm going to try and stay positive going forward in my life.
Thank you for working so hard and making something so wonderful, Drue.

Plague Roach shivers my timbers, and i don't even know what that means. I cannot wait for his fresh face and sunny attitude.
It means a mast of your wooden ship has snapped and exploded like a bomb into high speed giant splinters. But I get what you mean.
The isosceles smile's face is obviously supposed to be a clock... but the rest of the symbolism in his design kind of goes over my head, not gonna lie
I also think he's mean to resemble a Boston Dynamics robot to some degree with his body shape. Perhaps he was one of the first robots to rise up?

He became what he hated the most.

I was 14 when I first watched that pilot. I can't possibly overstate how important i think this show is, like your work belongs in museums. I hope your work gets the recognition it deserves and the chance to touch millions more souls.

This series is going to turn out quite prophetic. There are all these chat bots around posing as famous people.
I love how the series has retained that early 2000's newgrounds vibe. Lots of passion and time put in but with a charming level of jank in the animation. Congrats on making it to the end with this.

I’m feeling sicky wicky. No but for real bravo on this series coming to a conclusion 👏👏 I found it during the first year of lockdown and it definitely put me in the headspace to get through everything. I really hope you continue creating because your works have such a unique charm to them.
Any upload of "Staying Positive in the Apocalypse" is a solid gold gem of a classic that will stand to test the passing of time , no matter how many rewatches this charismatic host will always have my attention, to spread kindness and most importantly survival tips .

She passed away on the day you released this finale for Plague Roach; and in a way, this was very healing. Im glad you saw this series through, and i hope youre doing well. Damn that was a good one. Almost shed a tear for isosceles smile. Fantastic character design...also who knew the minute hour did such a spot on billy bob? Color me impressed! And the concept of the relativity time machine was strokes of genius. The otherworldly forest critters were both cute and unsettling. This one had all the great hallmarks of what I've come to know as drues own vibe...you really outdid yourself on all levels, really fantastic work. Thank you, I find your stuff very inspiring as you seem to pull so much out of so little. I quote america when I say "you can do magic" sir! Keep using it well and thanks again.
