With "The Player" Slated to return to us in Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, I cant help but speculate on the future that is in store for this character. With Sora being our Main playable character, I run through both the case for and against him being The Player's Third Life.

I still remain on the fence when it comes to the idea that Sora is the Player's Third Life, or even if the player will have a third life in general. However, I find this topic worthy of speculation. Please feel free to share your thoughts!
In theory it wouldn't clash with Sora being a normal kid, since the and by extension all of us are normal kids. So to speak.
@@willsword8100Well, no, that wouldn't, but there is something that does, Sora was the only one not chosen by the Keyblade, and that does make him special because he was the only one not chosen, everyone else are the normal ones because they were chosen, so yeah, that definitly clashes.

It’s not that deep lol, KH1 Sora summoned simba and others who we never met until KH2.
@@aoto8897 well the thing is that in kh3 every summon is someone that sora met before except ralph ... That's why it's so peculiar, also in kh1 those summond were clearly explained to be people that jad their world destroyed...
For kh2 they were teleported from their own world.
In kh3 it's a LINK summon that serves as a replacement for summon and d link. so how sora link itself to ralph, and also: ralph is the only character with meow wow to not appaeared with a single color.
@aoto8897 incorrect. Sora met Simba in KH1 in the form of the summoning stone. He met Ariel in KH1, he met Stitch in KH2, and he met Meow Wow in DDD. KH1 and KH2 have Summons, in which Sora connects with and conjures characters locked inside objects after the destruction of their worlds, either stones or charms. In KH3, Sora uses Heartbinders, which Yen Sid describes as augmenting or empowering his existing powers of connection. Nomura also explains they function magically different, Sora is evoking the form of the character using elemental magic, not actually summoning them. Ralph is the only Heartbinder Link we dont explicitly see Sora already have a connection with. Ralph also exists inside a fictional reality connected to KHs only by a sealed Cable Tunnel with 4 darknesses in it that leads to a Data World that was destroyed entire eras ago. It makes no sense for Sora to Link with him unkess there was an existing connection between them.

I think The Player's Memories are passed around through the Child of Destiny like people in the Darkness.
I also think Riku looks like Ephermer and is thematically tied to Xehanort because Riku unnatural Light is carried through them as a Bloodline.
And because Sora share that Darkness and that Light we flow through Sora and Riku.
So it is the Memories, not the body.
there is something you forgot to mention which is Sora's ability to wield level 1 starlight in KH3.
i did hae that theory cause it kinda of makes sense, sora being the player would also mean that xehanort own mentor have to deafeat him bia reincarnation after all that happen to him, saving xehanort in the process too, becoming the oppositive and what the player wanted xehanort to be trhoug sora
I feel like if anyone is Players reincarnation its Yozora. He knows how to use the keyblade when he steals it from Sora and he even says this isn't what I really look like. He traveled across many worlds and stumbled upon quadtratum. I feel like he has to be linked to player if not player itself.
Yes, Sora is not the only playable character but we only seemingly seem to dive to heart with Sora. Not with Terra, Ventus, Aqua, Mickey and Riku.
Only Sora, Roxas(who is VERY tightly linked with Sora) and the player.
Those are the only characters we consistently dive to heart at the start, no one else.
Maybe the voice that talks to sora in KH is himself as the player from the past helping him along

Another reason For Sora to be the player could be Ephemer helping him in the final battle in the keyblade graveyard
That's what I think too I like to think in Kingdom hearts 4 the girl that sora meets she'll be like "you know?, you remind me up someone I wanted to be friends with!"

Awesome Video :) Never Got This Theory Until Now :) I Don't Think Sora Is "The Player" Because The Loss Of Memories Of It's Two Lives Before, Also The Player Can Be A Boy Or Girl. In Dark Road, The Player Is Covered With A Hood. :) Thinking A Possibility That The Player Can Be Yozora Since Yozora Said, "This Isn't What I Look Like" To Sora. (But I'm Just Playing Around With This Theory) Thinking The Player Is Someone Who Will Be Covered And With Not Have A Male/Female Voice But Something Unexpected. :)
I feel sora is a son to a king and to be a chosen king from a royal bloodline than the player reason why you see Nomura's art with him with a crown and throne.
The Xehanort part is also notable due to the fact that Xehanort can see into peoples hearts, it wouldn’t just have been a feeling of familiarity if Sora was player; Xehanort would have known for certain. I’d have to say that kills the idea for me, there’s no way that Xehanort wouldn’t have fully recognized the presence of player’s memories had Sora been their reincarnation.
I don't think Sora is the player personally, for 3 reasons:
1) It would mess up Sora's "ordinary boy" schtick if he suddenly turned out to be a twice-reincarnated keyblade wielder with links to all the major events, and
2) We've been misdirected like this before, made to think that Xehanort was the reincarnation and then had the rug pulled over us. Nomura-san is more subtle than that.
3) Sora not being the reincarnation, but instead having the power of empathy and being able to read the past lives from the real 3rd incarnation, would have more thematic impact and continue to draw parallels in the narrative between Sora and Xehanort.
It’s certainly a interesting theory 🤔 I may have to do AU for this to explore that possibility
I think another case against Sora being Player is how Nomura views Sora as a character. He isn’t born or connected to anyone through ancient bloodline or past lives, but forms those connects due to the kindness and empathy in his heart. And while some may try to argue with The child of Destiny. I would like to counter with that being more of a title than an actual established person.
He’s almost certainly connected to Gula. They have the same exact render pose and Gula represents Sora’s biggest flaw as reflected in Hercules.
Sora is “a normal boy” because he is a commoner and not royalty, kinda like Aladdin. As the main character it should be clear he is anything but normal. It is his status that makes him “not special”. In the manga, Riku has a big house- indicating that Riku is royalty, and I’d speculate Ephemer’s most recent descendant.
@@thegummiphone Indeed since in the kh1 manga as you say Riku’s house is big and royalty like rich since the door 🚪 has opened at the small playground destiny island 🏝️where Riku sees. And as for Sora…. as “a normal boy” Gula and Sora do have the same pose image if Gula is relate to Sora and wonder if the kh back cover years ago if Ava x Gula is a thing/ship that I seen an drawing image of Sora&Kairi as dress fashion on the fountain ⛲️ with the mask of Ava and Gula they wear taken off with a kiss.
@@justawafflecousinofpancake4499 So interesting comparison I found. So Hunchback of Notre Dame is a direct reference to the tragedy of Daybreak Town. Not all the cast members are present, but the main ones are there. Esmerelda and Phoebus represent Ava and Gula while Quasimodo and Frollo represent Luxu and MoM/Ira/Aced. There is a scene where Phoebus is wounded and Esmerelda tends to him. Because of the use of Pink and Yellow colors, you can see clearly that this scene is reflected where Ava is hiding Gula from Ira. Quasimodo is like Luxu or even Cinderella, because he was told to sit out and watch. Frollo being Quasi’s master. The Feast of Fools represents the Keyblade War. Halloween can be compared this way as well, as it’s a cyclical event that happens once a year. Gula and Ava should definitely be a match in this sense, but Quasi and Frollo also lusted after Esmerelda. In the end, Quasi accepts that the relationship belongs to Phoebus.
Gula I believe is connected to Ventus, and was present very close to the time Strelitzia was murdered. If you take the scenes and put them in order, Gula should have been in the warehouse still roughly at that time. Very little chance he left because he was hiding from the other foretellers in what is described as his favorite spot to be.

@@thegummiphoneThe warehouse thing is explained by an error in most compilations. Castle of Dreams did not exist in the real world, per it not appearing in X, only UX. This is confirmed by Darkness and Maleficents conversation when she arrives in the data past, where it isnt shown as a real world projection and is used as the background image for "including worlds unfamiliar to the real world". Strelitzia stalks the player in Castle of Dreams. Therefore, Strelitzias flashback and death all occur during UX's Data Do-Over, not in actual X, because there was no Castle of Dreams in the real world. Thats why Gula isnt there, because its a separate, later time period in the Data world when Strelitzia is killed.
This is an interesting theory, I would also like to add that it gives a little more weight to sora’s relationship with the dream eaters and the ending off dream drop distance. As they are the hearts of the dandelions. Though a good rebuttal to this is Riki did also have a relationship with the dream eaters so….
I’ve always believed Sora is the Player incarnation for your agreements and why he isn’t a quick explanation for the memories well only thing I can think of it might be hard remembering two life times gotta make room for new ones just like data in a memory storage somethings go.. for Luxu and player character they never really interacted and I don’t think Luxu would even know about Player character to him he would be just another Dandelion and he would be more focused on the New Union leaders if any thing. For all the other main characters we get to play as,we are seeing events happening from another side of the story. Another side on their story deep dive 😉 to get the full picture/story. As for Sora and Xahnorte. He already had his mind fully set on just summoning KH for his plans, his focus was dead set on that. As for why he didn’t see his memories well. He and the player character bonded so he was able to open his heart and see his heart and felt his emotions. With Sora it was more Fight on sight kind of thing since he would try and stop him and he also a wrench in his grand plan. I see it as if it’s a story and we are the main character it would make sense that we end the story still as the main character 😜
There's a lot of good theories for this indeed. I feel as if we'll get a bunch of questions/answers in Missing Link on this very theory.

I thought of this, too, when I saw your initial video about the Player having a third reincarnation!
I think for reincarnation the more you do it the more memories you lose and have to get back, since it seems the player somewhat remembers their first life in Missing Link, and by the third life(sora) all memories of the past has been taken out of their mind, which it would be hard to get back

Feel like they're going to pull a oh we technically saw the lifeboat machine in KH1 but didn't know what it was for years. Sora might be the player character, he ALSO might be one of the many lifes of Brian.
He wanted to be the virus in the masters plan which included Xehanort. Sora creating a completely different wordline to defeat Xehanort smells of virus activity to me 😂
Edit: Also I find it very suspicious that the thoughts monolog has come back at the end of ReMind, just before all the ending bits of UnionX and Dark Road where the next life option is introduced
This is the one theory I just straight up don't like
My player character is personal to me and I want to one day see them in a numbered game and considering that missing link uses unreal engine that's no longer impossible to happen
It could be something like that keyblade graveyard scene but you get to either transfer your khml character straight from that game to whatever numbered game it is or maybe even just create a character with a character creator
I think I like the idea of sora being a reincarnation of our player character from Union Cross Plus at the end of Union Cross are player characters sacrifices himself the save his friends by pretending he has darkness in his heart tricking the darkness and locking them away forever!
As much as I like to entertain the idea that Sora is the Player's third life, I can also understand the arguments against it, except the one that Sora doesn't have the Player's memories. Sora is only 15/16 in KH3 while Player in DR is already at the end of their 2nd life time, meaning that they had decades to reclaim their memories of the Uχ time, as well as being exposed to things and people to trigger the memories, for example Brain, the statue of Ephemer and overall the seemingly better presevered history of the World. Sora, on the other hand didn't even know there was a world beyond Destiny Islands until Kairi showed up. Even to this point he barely knows a thing about Daybreak Town or Scala ad Caelum.
But yeah, some things wouldn't ad up if Sora was the the Player's 3rd life and it sure would break the tradition of the Player character being customizable in every aspect and Xehanort's and Xigbar's interactions towards Sora. If anyone knew, it would definitely be Xehanort but he doesn't show any sign of recognition.
Been waiting for this video since I found out about the player being reincarnated. As a fan I’m going to say yes Sora is the player. I don’t need evidence it’s just true. Lol! Cheers brother!

I think another case against Sora being the player character from Union X is that he wasn't chosen by the keyblade until Destiny Ilsand was destroyed and Riku fell to darkness. Even Aqua notes when meeting the two as kids that while Riku was given the power by Terra while Sora had nothing. Even Terra didn't think Sora had the aptitude which is why he gave to the power only to Riku. I think that Sora being the player character would make him less special as unlike many of the others I feel like he 'Earned' the right to weild the keyblade in a sense that he wasn't chosen by anyone or anything to weild it as he was a backup choice but his heart was so strong that the keyblade eventually did choose him in a sense. If he were the player character I couldn't see him somehow loosing the power to wield a keyblade. Also something I just remembered when Sora gave part of his heart to Ventus when he was born he explicitly stated that he was a brand new heart so that would conflict with him being the players new life.
I think the player character's presence is a little bit more complex than them being Sora in a third life. I DO think eventually we have some guess as to who and where this player character is in this third life but we currently don't know. I'd rather like the player character to be a mark on KH's history both physically and figuratively in sora's time. something along the lines of a monument, maybe a specific world the player founded... something that shows that they existed in some way other than the keyblade graveyard that makes a massive impact to the story other than symbolism.
There are certainly some good points to make in this line of thought. But I would say I’m on the fence about this one too. Because of my line of thinking about Gula being connected to Sora as well as Strelitzia’s death, I am inclined to think Player isn’t a version of Sora. It makes sense under the lens that we play as Sora, but when you consider we have played as many others at this point that idea loses it’s footing.
I do think Player can remember their first life because of Chirithy. But I question if this method was employed again in Second Life’s death. Our other player candidate Luxord doesn’t seem to remember and was confused that Xemnas suggested his connection to the ancient keyblade legacy.
I do think it's possible for sora to the player's 3rd incarnation but I'm leaning more towards luxord being the player
Thats actually a epic theory and its possible that if he is the reason he cant recall is that feat just didnt carry on to the 3rd incarnation
Since the Player's default look seems to be a blonde man and we have 2 blonde men with an 'ancient Keyblade legacy' it's not that hard to make a good guess. Personally, I feel like Demyx being so lazy because he's just so done with all of this and wants to move on from this endless battle, because he thought he was only going to get one more life and is now rightfully worried that this is going to go on forever.
Did Luxu have any interactions with player character? I don't recall any. Therefore, there's no way for him to recognize whether Sora is or not.
Player character seemed to have gone under everyone's radar. The only ones that seemed to have had any significant interaction are Ephemer, Skuld, the foretellers - especially Ava, the union leaders, and of course Strelitzia from a distance. Almost all of whom somehow made a connection with Sora at one point or another or we can foresee some future interaction.
I don’t think the player reincarnated a third time, they only reincarnated the first time cause of Chirithy.
If this is true, it would mean we’re LITERALLY Sora and it doubles as being meta given WE control Sora in the game 😂
After thinking about it, I think that Sora being the player is a low possibility I think the higher possibility is that he is somehow connected to him, maybe Sora is a descendant of him as we know that he lived and died on destiny islands.

They still haven’t confirmed the necklace theory (which I believe strongly,) and many parallels were made between Riku and Xehanort, it would only make sense that Riku is of that bloodline. Sora is probably someone else’s, if anything.
Another reason (which might be very far fetched) I think Sora is the player is the fact the player and Sora both have a track record of dying, and coming back to life
I've been thinking that Sora is the 3rd life. It would makes sense since Sora(specifically a version of Sora) would have technically been in every KH game. It's mainly his story after all. Also, I think Sora hasn't unlocked the memories of his past life due to him not being a master or properly using the power of waking. The power of waking could unlock or awaken said memories.
I wonder if the original beings of Light were trying to perfect the child of destiny, with the Player being an early incarnation, and Sora being the most recent and most powerful.

I thought the union cross player character ended up being Xehanort in Dark Road though, with Ephemer implied in KH3 to be Sora's past life.
Something to add to the theory is that Destiny Islands was completely sealed as an empty world without people in it until after Ven and Sora's hearts touched, since Ven would unlock the world and in turn allow hearts to flow into it. The thing about that is it implicates the heart that touched Ven's would have had to been a heart that was lingering in Destiny Islands since hearts could not move into that world while it was sealed, and the only heart we see that would be free roaming in that world until becoming unlocked was Player's.
So, the points against sora are good but I want to say that luxu never meet the player, and about the playable characters in kindom hearts union x we use in some point ephemer and skuld but I know that Tetsuya Nomura will clarify these questions. Thanks for reading by the way, I appreciate it
I believe that the player in union X is actually the player in missing link who later adapted Xehanort in scala and took him to destiny isles. Your theory seems correct tho
Ok, so I saw someone say Yozora was a good candidate for life number three, and I got to thinking, it would make sense.
At the beginning of the fight, Yozora seems to use the power of waking, something that should, so far as I know, only be possible for keyblade wielders. This may mean that Yozora can use a keyblade, but may not have one of his own at the moment, such as with Luxu when Xehanort was using No Name. I’m not sure if that would bar someone from using the power of waking, but it is worth mentioning. Yozora can also straight up take Sora’s keyblade during the fight, and Sora doesn’t simply teleport it back into his hand, such as when Jack Sparrow had it (for that one scene) in KH2, or when Riku took it in KH1. This may be because Yozora is deemed worthy of the keyblade, which would make sense if he was player.
The next thing I would mention is the whole “this isn’t how I normally look” thing. This isn’t evidence of Yozora being player per se, but it would be a way to handwave away character customization in future titles.
The next thing to mention is Yozora’s name, meaning night sky. If Yozora is player, then this would fit the naming scheme of their trio, as Skuld means star, and Ephemer could be related to the word ephemeris, which is a type of astronomical data for the positions of planets, satellites, moons, etc. This would therefore fit an astronomy themed naming convention, as the night sky is (obviously) where one points their telescope. Additionally, he does turn the stage into a planetarium during the fight, so the theme doesn’t stop there.
The last two things are regarding what we’ve been shown of Yozora’s and player’s personality, which admittedly isn’t a great deal, and Yozora’s red eye.
For the personality, player and Yozora are both pretty notably quiet characters, this isn’t evidence, but it does make it more believable than Sora being the third life, as it would be a pretty jarring difference to go from one life that’s so silent Ephemer and Skuld were able to deduce that player was the one Strelitzia was following from just an offhand comment about their quietness, to Sora, who is not remotely like that.
The next thing is the fact that Yozora has a red eye. In KH, the eyes are generally a big giveaway, such as with all of the dark aligned characters having yellow eyes, and the light aligned having blue. Player has blue eyes by default in KHUx, but I would like to point out the matter of nightmare chirithy, aka player’s second chirithy. Nightmares all have red eyes, and player is connected to the nightmares by virtue of being the one who was (unknowingly) gathering darkness for nightmare chirithy. It wouldn’t surprise me if player, at some point, learns to use the power of nightmares, thus giving the single red eye.
Those are just a few thoughts as to why Yozora could work as a third life, though I’m honestly pretty on the fence. There is also the matter of knowing Luxord (seemingly) which would make sense if he shows up in missing link, but who knows. Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk.
The possible connection that supports Sora being the player character is the mystery surrounding why he was able to summon Ralph.

could be. Sora s the kingdom hearts's version of naruto uzumaki. Naruto is the reincarnation of someone from ancient times. makes sense that sora would have a similar trait.
I was thinking about this theory for a long time, and it is starting to make sense with most of the scenes. I think the Xehanort didn't sense that inside Sora because he does not have the memories. The Missing Link game and Kingdom Hearts 4 are going to be vital to connect the dots, like this one scene in Kingdom Hearts X, a man in a black cloak is seen with Sterlitzia who is alive and walking alongside him. Let's just wait and see where this story is going to go.
if true then the player both motivated xehanort to become the child of destiny only to himself become the child of destiny and put down xehanorts dreams lmao.

For real. Terra bequeathed Riku, but its not like Terra had the Kingdom Key or anything.

@The Landi Lodge because it would go against what nomura said about sora being an ordinary boy who only has a connection to the past and his ability to use a keyblade do to ventus' heart taking refuge inside sora's heart, i wouldn't be surprised if it's revealed that riku is the reincarnation of the player character because the kingdom key was originally supposed to go to riku, not sora, but because riku allowed the darkness to take him the kingdom key went to sora because it was able to detect ven's heart inside sora, and because ven is a keyblade wielder, ven's heart gave sora the ability to use a keyblade and sora became the proxy user of the kingdom key until sora proved that he has what it takes to wield a keyblade on his own which led to sora keeping the kingdom key

Sora could also have been the familiar light to Ventus and had the ability to summon a keyblade already from a previous life as stated in the video (I have a theory that Axel can also summon his keyblade due to a past-life-bequeath).
