    Nice video! Like the hinges. Did you add a ladder? Seems like it's still better than trying to climb out of the much on the edge of the pond.

      Yes I did add a ladder.. I had a old aluminum ladder that I was able to attach to the dock.. it's been about 3 years now and my dock is still holding up good.. thanks for watching and commenting..

    I was told that the temperature differences between summer/ winter will cause the barrels to " suck inwards" in cold weather....and that to solve this problem, its best to drill a small hole at the top of the barrel to allow the pressure to stabilize in winter months.

    Other docks on line are often huge, 12x12 or 10x12. I live in the Colorado mountains at 8500 ft. with 2 big ponds and my pond ice can be 3 ft thick during a cold winter. Ice will absolutely tear a wooden dock to pieces (voice of experience from first stationary dock). This dock is a good size yet small enough that I can tow it up on the bank during the winter. Thank you, I am going to start collecting my blue barrels this week!

      You can leave the barrels in the ice.They will float up on top of the ice.

    Great pier! But in order not to walk through the mud at the bottom of the lake, it needs to be cleaned. Dirt can be pumped out with the help of a dirty water motor pump and a Bagermaster suction nozzle. And if there is sand at the bottom of the reservoir, then you can make a beach

      How shallow is the water at the edge. Does it hold up well on shallow water also.

    How did the ratchet straps hold up being in water all season? I am going to build some floating docks for our lake property this year because we need to go out further to get into deeper water.

      They're doing great.. the one's I used were pretty heavy duty.. I wouldn't use thin cheap ones.. I'm sure they won't last forever but it wouldn't be hard to change them in the future.. the only regret I have is that I would have made the dock wider.. I thought about making another dock the same size and adding it to the first one in a T shape.. just to make it sturdier..

    Do you recall how long your boards were that run between the barrels? The divider boards? Thank you. I’m making my material list.

      Four feet and nine inches.. the frame is a 5x12.. this sumer we're making another the same size and we're going to attach it to the other, in the shape if a T..

      @@antlershedfarm8516 thank you for the reply. Laying all of this out the 4ft 9 inches seems to be way wider than the barrels. That’s like a 10 inch gap on each side of the barrel.

      The barrels that I have are 55 Gallon barrels. They are 35 inches tall.

    do you think i can build this dock with 5 barrels ?

    • @antlershedfarm8516
      @antlershedfarm8516  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably.. if I could do it over.. I would make it wider with more barrels.. I've thought about building an identical one to the one that's in the video and then placing it out in front in a T shape.. that would help prevent rocking from side to side..
