Are we just the ignore the fact that in this drama, Lan Zhan didn't even cry when Cloud Recess got burnt down. Didn't cry when his brother was missing. Didn't lose a tear, but when he heard about how Wei Ying gave his golden core to Jiang Cheng, one drop of tear left his eyes. Just think about it, how much he loves Wei Ying. That drop of tear must have meant a lot.

You can literally see Jiang Cheng start to freak out the moment Wei Ying doesn’t fight back. In JC’s mind WY has always been the stronger, better fighter and to see his gege so weak shook his worldview.
As much as JC wanted to hate WY, he still looked up to his big brother.

The look Wei Ying throws at the names of his ancestors before letting go of Jiang Cheng's collar is really telling. He knows that Shijie doesn't want them to fight. He knows his uncle told him to protect Jiang Cheng. He knows that Madam Yu wouldn't tolerate him hurting Jiang Cheng. It's like he remembers why he did everything. That's why he doesn't fight Jiang Cheng and lets go. He didn't give up his golden core all those years ago to fight his brother now.

He always put others before himself, giving his core to his brother, saving the group of cultivators that were trying to kill him from the horde of corpses, and even trying to comfort Lan Zhan right after he woke up on the boat despite just being one-sidedly condemned by his own brother who didn’t know the sacrifices Wei Ying made. He took all the responsibilities upon himself, and never asked for help.
He never asked for appreciation.
He never cursed those who wronged him.
He never asked for an apology.
And he never asked for forgiveness.
Wei Ying, I think, is the strongest, most tragic, and deepest character I ever had the good fortune of understanding. If he were real, Wei WuXian would have my deepest respects. It is no wonder that the people in his life who got to fully know him and his story are so loyal to him. And it’s no wonder so many people are drawn to this show. Wei Ying by far is one of the most well-written character out there. My respects to the original author and show writers 🙏 Thank you so much for bring such a wonderful story into our lives.
It's like all the good norms and characteristics a person should posses are build inside Wei Ying. He is a great person and the actor who plays him (Xiao Zhan) is equally excellent. Like you I am kinda honored to be introduced to his character.The actor who plays Lan Zhan(Wang Yibo) is equally suited and a great character too. He is quiet never boosts about his ability, knowledge and the sufferings. He loves Wei Ying when everyone's against him. It shows that even a very strong person needs a friend or a lover by his side to not turn into a monster of a person after all that suffering. Like a song that Xiao Zhan sang, "What's the use of fame in your name after you die, I'd rather have a glass of wine when I'm alive"He never tried to justify his actions cause he knew no one would believe him and little did he know that all the faith he needed was already next to him(Lan Zhan).

I remember that scene was LIFE-CHANGING the first time I was watching this masterpiece and I was extremely affected by it! I used to be someone who cared about others' opinions all my life! But Wei Ying literally changed my whole life

Not only that, but Jiang Cheng STILL resents him and still blames him for everything even after WWX saved them all in the cave and after it was made obvious to anyone but a complete idiot that Jin Guangyao, with the help of Su She and Xue Yang, masterminded everything to frame WWX. Jiang Cheng was working overtime in this episode to get the well-deserved title of "World's Worst Brother". He was lucky that both Wen Ning and Lan Wangji knew that Wei Ying still loved him like a brother or one or both them would have chopped him up and fed him to Fairy.
Wei Wu Xian lost his golden core, but still got heart of gold.
So true they did so much to him and he still smiles through the pain and still helps others.

The shock factor of the golden core was much greater in the book than in the drama, because of the way it was presented (it was already hinted to the viewer when the diagram was shown). But it didn't make the scene any less emotional. Wei Wuxian suffered quietly all those years, and you can tell Lan Wangji felt so bad for scolding him all the time back then. And he felt guilty to the point of stealing one of the lotus pods for WWX.
Also when they all turned against Jin Guang Yao, WWX's expression is on point. People never change, and JGY is now their "target"
Huge respect to the team behind CQL because they captured every emotion from the novel perfectly, spoken or unspoken.
No matter how many times seeing this drama, it still makes one cry their heart out….
It's really painful when such a strong stubborn and self-hiding man like Lan Zhan is in tears for his love ..this episode makes everything more sensible after the truth has been revealed and this is one of the saddest yet relieved episodes .. sobbing :'|

Later when Wen Ning told him that you had to stay awake througout the whole process of exchanging the golden core, Lan Zhan remembers some 'harsh' words he told Wei Ying and you see how much he regrets those.
Literally the only person LZ cried for in the entire series is WWX. LZ didn't even shed a single tear when his whole clan was basically destroyed. It really shows how deep his emotions towards WWX are!

I loved this episode so much not only because LWJ and WWX's brother finally found out the truth but also because of Wen Ning. He is usually so soft-spoken and nervous when he is talking and sometimes stutters but through the entire scene where he is telling JC the truth, he is so confident when speaking and powerful with his words. I really liked seeing this from Wen Ning.

I really respect Wei Ying's character. He's so strong even after all the things he had been through. He never complained not even for once. When he was suffering so much, all he could say was that "he was hungry." I really feel sorry for him and proud of him for who he is. He always put others before himself, never brag about what he did for them.

Wen Ning was such an underrated character.He was forgiving & strong ,very loyal to wuxian.He lived a very hard life because of how people treated him and his sister.
The characters were all very good. I mean you got to see them like they step out from the novel. I feel so bad for Wen Ning and his sister because of circumstances the peace that they wanted got ripped from them. In the end, there were so many sacrifices but at least the two main recognize the sacrifices they've made for one another.

what has happened to his sister? I skipped two episodes because they seemed very sad. I may have missed something. These two siblings can convey a real family bond. Respect the characters and the actor and actress who portrayed them.
Wen Ning is amazing and pretty tragic character too. He got wounded and hurt a lot, revived, controlled to kill the prince, lost his sister and almost the whole clan. He even resqued Jiang Cheng and helped him to switch the golden core and he still gets electro whipped by JC. At least he and Wei Wuxian are very loyal to each other. Wish we could have had more interactions between Wen Ning and Lan Zhan but I'm glad these two strong guys are always defending Wei Wuxian.

It actually feels realistic! Mo Xuanyu's body is established as somewhat frail and abused. Wei Ying is also in an emotionally fragile state already, what with the cultivation world making a hypocritical heel-turn in his favor. Then he visits his foster family's shrine to pay respects, while he already feels guilty about. Then his brother comes in and upsets him more. His breathing gets heavier and his vision blurring. You can tell he's heading toward a possible panic attack and wants to get out there asap. Then they get stopped the first time. He starts his nose bleed and can only swipe weakly at it. He can barely keep his eyes open and sways in place. His breathing has become extremely shallow and his voice a bare whisper. Then they get attacked and his momentum halted. That's it, the last straw. His concentration on getting out shatters. His emotional turmoil shuts down his body. Even the spin that lan zhan causes by pulling on Wei Ying has no resistance, indicating tha the actors trust each other that well so to complete a movement that should have both their fall instincts activated. The whole scene is wonderful and that's my tea!
Honestly i may like lan wangjis and wei yings relationship even more in the series than the book. Its so beautiful in the book, its nothing worse and most people will like it more because they kissed and went waay over than that and its just so romantic and cute. Im not even sure how to say it but i like relationships like this in here so much. So much more than friendship and so much more than being in love. They are soulmates and they dont need to kiss to show it. It doesnt make sense but yeah lolol i just felt like telling it someone

having read the book, i agree. i think CQL did a better job establishing their friendship from the start with the oath they made in the cavern and at the lantern lighting scene. it turns their relationship from just an early crush to something more like two boys with similar moral principles in an era of war. i also think by introducing xiao xingchen and song lan earlier, they're more relevant to the main story, and serve as a pretty tragic parallel for wangxian. it makes yi city arc that much more painful and impactful.
and one of the biggest changes i like is wangxian's confrontation at the phoenix mountain hunt, with the whole "i thought you were my zhiji" and "i still am" exchange. there is just so much there! and finally, unlike some others i truly love the open-ended ending in ep 50. i love the idea of wei wuxian getting the time and space he needs to come to terms with himself and his place in the world. i love the idea of lan wangji respecting his agency. and of course, i always imagine when they reunite, they'll both be more ready to never part.
in any case, i love the novel but i do think CQL elevated existing themes. their relationship seems that much more elegant for how much is unspoken, like there's greater implicit understanding between them.
@@thedustwhispered Same, I still like the plot of the novel better, becouse more things make sensd and there are just more details, but the drama added a few nice things and I quite enjoy the lack of sex-related scenes, becouse even if I liked how wwx finally realized that he is in love I think the amount of sex there was was unncesarry lmao. Both novel and the drama (and the animation) are great in their own way ❤

I’m glad that jiang finally found out he has Xian’s golden core. Wow I had a hard time not crying when Ning was explaining what xian did for him. I can just imagine all the pain xian and jiang are going thru at that moment. Both loved each other very much and has lost so many ppl that they both loved and because of all of it they were separated. I think their part in this story is the saddest one

Si somos conscientes que el sufrió al perder a su familia, tener la carga de ser el jefe de un Clan a una edad temprana , igualmente los prejuicios que traía desde el pasado y las comparaciones, le hicieron tener cierta envidia acompañado de ideas negativas sobre si mismo, aunque el en el fondo de verdad quería a Wei ying, pero cuando Yanli falleció el rencor y el desprecio hizo que su corazón se cegara y lo lleno de un odio inmenso que no le hizo ver que su hermano sufría por dentro. Me ha dolido ver a Lan Zhan llorar al saber la verdad, es como si se enterara de las razones por la cual la persona que ama cambio tanto y empezó un cultivo diferente, no es por algo tan simple o vacío, el acto de dar sin recibir nada a cambio, es una de las cualidades de Wei ying, es por eso que las palabras de Wen ning tienen tanto peso, porque Jiang cheng nunca podrá compararse con Wei ying.
