If I see that name and the exact intro in a theater, written by a responsible professional, writer and a Passionate producer, I would probably have mental seizures. I can’t handle this level of high quality anymore. I could start crying because I would not want it to end. This intro changed my life.
Both Homeworlds were very fun games, but the things that consistently stand out for me is the soundtrack and the story. The creepy, ethereal, semi-tribal space songs really made every skirmish a dramatic affair. Also I can't think of any other RTS that actually had such an engaging story. Homeworld 1 especially has excellent storytelling. Who remembers the ghost ship, the gardens of kadesh, and the supernova science station missions? Every mission was a fresh challenge.
Damm, what a game. A decade has passed since it's released, but i still come back to it again and again. Literally the deepest sci-fi story i've ever come into.
No, that's why there planet was destroyed. They were exiled because their fleets were annihilated and the Galactic version of the UN (the guys that hyperspaced in at the end of the 1st one) told the Taiidani that they couldn't exterminate them. So they exiled them and forced them to abandon the hyperspace tech. 'Tis explained in Homeworld 1 and parts of Homeworld 2.
I have always loved everything in this game; the insanely immersive Hindu style music, the believable voice acting, the effing epic story and the addicting gameplay. This has been permanent addition to my all time greatest PC games list I've played. Now Im gonna install this game again....
The space opera mixed with exotic prophecies reminds one of Dune. The whole game has a very relaxed and contemplative tempo, like Frank Herbert's series.
Homeworld 2 was made by the same team as Homeworld 1. Cataclysm was made by a totally different team. HW2 was made under a lot of pressure and limitations though, and its planned expansion (all the stuff in the finale about the Eye of Amarra or whatever) was canned before HW2 was finished.
Homeworld uniwerse have much better storyline than other Sci-Fi games... More dramatic, mystic, monumental, force to reflections, to the imagination. This is true power of HW saga.
More than a decade and still the best space RTS ever. heart gripping story, awesome graphics (for that time), through the roof enjoyability, great multi, great mods. My bows to the creators. Lets hope HW3 will continue in such fashion.
They seriously need to make this into a movie. The story for this series would challenge most other sci-fi communities with more published media. They could start the whole movie with launching the satellite that found the first core and go from there. At least, I think it would be great.
I feel it was a step back in terms of gameplay too though. Which is probably a bigger issue in the scope of things. I imagine the creative team behind the game weren't consulted and... I'm going to guess the people that made HW2 just didn't care and wanted to do their own EPIC JOURNEY. Of course, Cataclysm did that without just tossing continuity out the window. Not something I get worked up about... just another missed opportunity.
Because Relic moved over to THQ. Sierra still owned the rights then, but apparently THQ has acquired the rights, so it is quite possible a Homeworld 3 could be made in the future.
I don't see why everyone is so vehemently opposed to any suggestion of a game of any other genre set in the Homeworld universe; Personally I think it'd be awesome to see this game branch out. Maybe from a different perspective, we can get some more meat on the universe and characters.
@deathtax10 The Homeworld games ARE amazing! My problem with HW2 was all its ship balance issues (endurance, armor, weapon types, etc.) Otherwise the visuals, ship designs, backgrounds and non-playable structures, effects, voice casting, and music were all gorgeous just like HW1.
In 2004, THQ Purchased Relic Entertainment. In November 2007, THQ purchased the rights to the Homeworld Universe from Sierra / Vivendi. I think you'll find that Homeworld 3 *will* be getting made at some point in the future.
The original core found on Karak wasnt even the one the Exiles used for the first mothership, (which again was about 2x bigger than the one in HW2), the core was replicated and made 10X bigger.
i totaly agree with you i think this game looks extremly good and you dont need a great grafich as the matter of fact i think the new grafichs ruins the games and the worst part we cant play the old games because of that i want to buy this game and the seller said that this game is not compatible with the newest computers
I love both Homeworld games. I only wish they had a lower difficulty. It's quite a hard game, I'm no good at micromanagement, and I hate having to cheat to beat games.
Oh certainly, but no company has earned the wings to fill me with confidence to take up this particular banner. Very few devs can attest to building an RTS with charm, atmosphere and personality.
@ilikepienotu As far as I can tell you, Home world 2 still beats any Space Age strategy games through it's simplicity to this date(Star Wars empire at War(not even close), Sin of Solar Empire(fun but too complicated and time consuming). It was fully game play style up to date compare to all the new Space strategy games out there. Easy to play, easy learning curve, no complicated movements and remembering a bunch of sequences and buttons. HW3 must be a go. Fully updated graphic + upgrade tree.
What is the cheapest video card that can offer 60 fps for this game with best performance and effects? I mean lowest price but simply best for this game.
they could make move like this game, woah, maybe it could be bettter than battlestar galactica and star wars, beautiful space battles with lots of cruisers and frigates, and dogfights
I love how the game is staged. EVERYTHING is on an epic scale, and yet, you can still somehow relate to it. Although ... I would have liked to know more about the Hiigarans and the Vaygr.
Still a good intro, but it's trumped by the very first game's especially and also Cataclysm's/Emergence's. Also, were the retcons to already established lore from the previous two games necessary, what with those Cores?
I don't know, but Homeworld remember "The Chariots of the gods" and "Stargate" Really. Sajuuk the great maker is from an intelligent race called by Hiigarans, The Progenitors. But on the past, the Progenitors were worshiped like a god with magic and spiritualism that helped to evolve the lesser races.
you have to have the latest patch of this game .. We have the same problem until I have updated my video card drivers and patch the game. After that everything works flawlessly.
@EVAUnit4A My problem is the insane difficulty of the single player campaign (which has always been the main draw of Homeworld). Besides the stupid scaling difficulty, you're not given much time to freely build in the first 3 missions. Even then, at times it just gets absurd. The presentation was stellar (in particular the graphics and music are still great today), but the actual story felt very lacking. Very hacked together and detached compared to the original Homeworld
Seeing these videos only pisses me off. I have a copy of Homeworld 2 I purchased for only $10. I played it apparently too much cause my disc is now so scratched that I can't reinstall it. I want to play this game so bad and I am hoping that something like Direct 2 Drive or Steam releases it. All the physical copies I can find are more expensive than brand new PC games. Anyone know if there's any way to use your CD key or jewel case and CD to get a new copy?
i have this game and i accidentally set the resolution to big and i cant change it back because the screen is cut off and i cant hit the accept button. ive uninstalled it a few times but nothing has worked. can someone help me?
Once you figure out that the resource ships can also pick up ships, game over. Just keep the fighters away so they don't shoot it and keep your frigates behind Mother... And also.. nah just joking around, you'll find better tips on-line Kids
Sorry to be responding to an old post, but I gotta put this out there; the We Want Homweorld 3 community on Facebook found out that the rights may be bought up by another company today. Fingers crossed, though it might be turned into an MMO...
@WayfstrthnU I agree with all that! Yeah, there was a definite disconnect with the story, and the ending kinda spoils any future plans for HW3 because many of the established rules get thrown out. The only options for new villains will probably be aliens from another galaxy. (PLEASE god, don't bring back the Beast, that was a terrible villain for HW!)
@Verminator4 Its sad you had to cheat. Maybe u were just too young for such a complex game. I love watching all the old games i used to play....this was one of my favorates.
I guess this game now should b Translated to First Person shooter lik Halo Universe ... it has potential, it has universe and all the required story to be nex big game ... HOPE SIERRA is lissenin :(
they r not hyperspace, they r hyperdrive reverse engineered from the three hyperspace cores... this reverse version was first made by bentusi n through trades many races create their own hypedrive based on bentusi's version not the original three cores...
i know what yor talking about. It is a setting in your display adapter i believe. There is nothing wrong it is just a setting which the games was not set for so it gets all wacky
Check you antivirus software. For example antivir blocks the installation on my system. So I recommend deactiviting antivirus software and maybe even your firewall

10 years have passed, and I still get shivers.
ALL THE VOICES ARE SOOOO EPIC!!!
Damm, what a game. A decade has passed since it's released, but i still come back to it again and again. Literally the deepest sci-fi story i've ever come into.

That transition!
started playing this again... i literally shed tears watching the intro. not sobbing, just tearing up. beautiful

hw series... storyline is shaking, perfect, inspiring unique game... this blew me away and everytime i see this still does.
a fantastic intro to one of the decade's most memorable game.
"The mother-ship is standing by." Actual chills.
No worries. I didn't even know it existed until a few years ago when I started playing it. Its a fantastically awesome game.
The space opera mixed with exotic prophecies reminds one of Dune. The whole game has a very relaxed and contemplative tempo, like Frank Herbert's series.
dune is the best example of what this story can be compared too
+GodlessXVIII Perfectly put.
Homeworld 2 was made by the same team as Homeworld 1. Cataclysm was made by a totally different team.

@JinrohDFLL This is the best way to explain it to someone who hasn't experience this awesomeness. Well said, sir
What a great story and interpretation.
Unfortunately "Deserts of kharak" was poor at best, so no chance that gearbox will made good HW3.
@@paweduda6464 Guess again!

This game is just too perfect to be uninstalled from any hard disk.
Nice history, different from any other history based on space and other civilizations.
They need to make this game into a movie.
I feel it was a step back in terms of gameplay too though. Which is probably a bigger issue in the scope of things.

best opening to any game ever.
thumbs up if you agree!
In some ways it is, in others they are completely different. I play and love both, they are definitely unique games though.
I don't see why everyone is so vehemently opposed to any suggestion of a game of any other genre set in the Homeworld universe; Personally I think it'd be awesome to see this game branch out. Maybe from a different perspective, we can get some more meat on the universe and characters.
Is that f'ing Optimus Prime? Man, he's like the Morgan Freeman of robot narrators.
Yea just what we need: A brilliant story whose path is decided not by writers, but by what overtly massive player group ganks who, and spreadsheets.
One of the most amazing game intros in existence imho.
0:25 the mystery! I still feel it like I did when I first saw this as a kid!
@deathtax10

wonder where I can get this. I've only played the homeworld cata.
This looks good
"Casualties many; Percentage of dead not known; Combat efficiency: we are winning!"

Dat Music
Dat Narrator
Dat Story
*brain explosioned*
I love both Homeworld games. I only wish they had a lower difficulty. It's quite a hard game, I'm no good at micromanagement, and I hate having to cheat to beat games.
soz, but in my opinion, this intro will never get old
Thanks for posting this, I was looking for the first mission start :)
Best RTS ever made (story and campaign wise). Whoever says otherwise is a n00b.
wow...so freaking epic in scale....
Oh certainly, but no company has earned the wings to fill me with confidence to take up this particular banner.

I'm inclined to agree, EVE was inspired by homeworld, but they are two completely different monsters.
In the soundtrack, beneath the voices:
"32701 - Please confirm"
"unintelligible response"
"Release crew standing by."
"unintelligible response"
(deep rumbling and warning sirens follow)
CHILLS!
yeah it was, i agree, but HW2 is just sooooooo damn pretty!
Still awesome.
this is the best game ever i saw in my hole life its so adicting even that empire earth
Makaan is one of the best villains ive seen in a game
cant wait for HW3
legendary
You have to play through the missions. sequentially.
Man, you should really try Cataclism. You'll love the Kuun Lan and the Kiith Somtaaw.
That's a great idea. It's amazing but even after 6 years the graphic of HW2 still looks fresh. Just like TRON 2.0.
What is the cheapest video card that can offer 60 fps for this game with best performance and effects? I mean lowest price but simply best for this game.
they could make move like this game, woah, maybe it could be bettter than battlestar galactica and star wars, beautiful space battles with lots of cruisers and frigates, and dogfights
true
I never heard of a story that says that a race was once a great empire and now they have to re-discover they're destiny

I don't know, but Homeworld remember "The Chariots of the gods" and "Stargate"
Really.
Sajuuk the great maker is from an intelligent race called by Hiigarans, The Progenitors.
But on the past, the Progenitors were worshiped like a god with magic and spiritualism that helped to evolve the lesser races.
It was? I must have missed/forgotten that part.
But I think Homeworld 2 was quite awesome, and I liked the storyline. It's a matter of opinion though.
@ern1989 And was it just as good each time through? Because THATS HOW IT WAS FOR ME! HELL FUCKIN YEAH!
i agree there are contradictions between the two... however i still love story in homeworld 2...
if i recall properly, the kharak were exiled because they were forbidden to develop hyperspace technology because of a treaty
Fuck yeah, steve online.
i want this game.the first homeworld is awesome and now i want this.who can sell me this one?
you have to have the latest patch of this game .. We have the same problem until I have updated my video card drivers and patch the game. After that everything works flawlessly.
I'd love Homeworld even if it was a side-scroller
i played the first but havnt the second, im a descrace. atleast i ordered it today and will have it in two days :)
i am totally drunk at this point in time
@EVAUnit4A My problem is the insane difficulty of the single player campaign (which has always been the main draw of Homeworld). Besides the stupid scaling difficulty, you're not given much time to freely build in the first 3 missions. Even then, at times it just gets absurd.

You mean 'graphics'?
Sorry to point that out, but it rather threw me.

Yeah, they added "2" in cutscene for fun ;)
Sorry to be responding to an old post, but I gotta put this out there; the We Want Homweorld 3 community on Facebook found out that the rights may be bought up by another company today.
Fingers crossed, though it might be turned into an MMO...
how do i get this game il pay for it
you can tell they rushed it. there are errors. still a fantastic game though
Hah lol the radio chatter near the beginning of the video there just talking backwards.
Yeah tht can b too or crossover of both, but it should b big with strong characters .... i jus hope it happens.
@WayfstrthnU
I agree with all that!
Wait, what's wrong with the Beast?
@Verminator4
Its sad you had to cheat. Maybe u were just too young for such a complex game. I love watching all the old games i used to play....this was one of my favorates.
Neutral, he didn't say which version of Windows he has.
it doesnt say anything to me
is the Half-Life version from steam? they updated every game on steam to work with 64 bit. :P
I guess this game now should b Translated to First Person shooter lik Halo Universe ... it has potential, it has universe and all the required story to be nex big game ... HOPE SIERRA is lissenin :(
@ilikepienotu
agreed!
It would be better if they have just put the HW 2 graphics engine into HW 1 would be 10 times better
This aged well.
*cough* EVE Online *cough*
they r not hyperspace, they r hyperdrive reverse engineered from the three hyperspace cores... this reverse version was first made by bentusi n through trades many races create their own hypedrive based on bentusi's version not the original three cores...
Don't forget Cataclysm :)
No, what I'm saying is that I haven't beaten the game yet because I don't want to cheat.
i know what yor talking about. It is a setting in your display adapter i believe. There is nothing wrong it is just a setting which the games was not set for so it gets all wacky
maybe because you have a 64-bit version of Windows. Old games doesn't do well on 64-bit operating systems.
Anybody else think that the word "TAIDAN" itself seems imposing?
Check you antivirus software. For example antivir blocks the installation on my system. So I recommend deactiviting antivirus software and maybe even your firewall
I got a good alternative: Egosoft.
