The music, the atmosphere, the sound effects, the visuals, the story, jesus... that story... Game is a masterpiece. I love it all. How is this not a movie yet, I do not know...
This game's athmosphere is gorgeous. The music has high ringing tunes reminding us about our desert home. Places we visit scream with mystery and age. And cutscenes styled like monochrome film don't even require any words. Too bad they no longer make games like this one any more.
"Capture at least one vessel", it says at 33:00. I think everyone who has played this game does just the same and salvages literally everything, because the power climb you get from not having to spend as much RU to build offensive ships is pretty much essential to beating the game, not to mention that superior numbers help in keeping your own units alive. I remember I didn't get how essential salvaging was at first, and I had to restart the game during the latter half once I realized the error of my ways.
ah yeah, I remember in the original (not remastered) I have captured every one of the ion frigates surrounding the hyperspace inhibitor station. If I remeber correctly there were 104 of them in total. That made the endgame pretty much super easy - the only problem was to wait until all of them rallied - it took a bit of a time to move them in range after a hyperspace jump.
I was a kid ending elementary when i saw Homeworld on a gaming convention PC, and played it standing , the atmosphere still gives me chills and I am in my late 30s...just an epic game with insanely good atmosphere, music and storytelling.
I know this is a remaster but I can't believe this game came out in 1999. So ahead of its time and we still haven't got a proper 3d space RTS since. Well, except Haegemonia: Legions of Iron.
Do not forget Sins of a SolarEmpire Rebellion. But yes, this Game was ahead of his Time and there is no other Game like this, maybe Deserts oh Kharak a little
I was blown away in 1999 when this game came out. I could not even guesstimate how many hours I have invested. The beauty of it back then was 3D cards were pricey so you could play the game in a software rendered mode. Although by today's standards, that mode is extremely dated, but being able to play at work on my lunch hour was awesome. Homeworld software rendered was better than no homeworld at all. I love the remastered versions of one and two. Now, all we need is Emergence (Cataclysm) remastered. The soundtrack for these games has stood the test of time as well. Homeworld: Desserts Of Kharak maintains the same level of entertainment with almost identical gameplay in a land-based strategy game. This is definitely one of the top five games ever made in my book. Prove me wrong. :-)
I bought this game when it came out. It wouldn't play on my PC. I leafed through PC magazines to try and decide what Graphics card to buy. Went out and bought a 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 just to play this game. Didn't get very far with it, and got distracted by how amazingly well Rainbow 6 and Tomb Raider were playing with the new card lol
Ahhh... I remember when i defeated Kadeshi...It does not felt like victory. It was so sad. But i've managed to capture one of their frigate. And so i've brought it all the way to Hiigara
I brought like 12 of those with me and melted everything. As well as like 7 stolen destroyers and 2 stolen heavy cruisers, in addition to my own fleet.
i'm glad you made this, it's a breath of fresh air to show friends the game who might not have the skill (or the rig) to play it through themselves, but i wish you'd have closed the build manager at points when it wasn't being used. i suppose that's a quirk of the remastered version, but it takes up such a huge portion of the screen when it's a hugely cinematic game.
I've been watching this on and off for about two months and it's been great when i needed it. I did notice your discord pinged a couple times in the video making me think it was my own, heh.
In the original game your salvage corvettes really weren't quick enough to catch enemy strike craft. In the remastered, its a bit groundbreaking if you use it right. The number of enemy capital ships you encounter is pretty limited (even with the variable difficulty) but strike craft tend to spawn endlessly at certain points. Now, you can just keep capturing them, allowing you to grow your fleet to ridiculous levels (or retire them for ridiculous RUs).
Ngl I laughed my ass off when you lost your first cloaked fighter in the graveyard level cause that exact same thing has happened to me more times than I care to remember
My friend I remember a mission where an objective was surrounded by many, many enemy capital ships... but I didn't see it in your Beautiful Movie... Was it removed from the Remastered Version?
"I see some activity. They have a lot of lights" "A lot of lights? They must be really advanced" lol I had both Home World and Cataclysm. I liked Home World best. Would love to get the remastered versions. Old game won't play on my new computer.
ok found another Home World upgrade movie. disappointing. they removed the sphere formation. it was the most useful formation for "guarding" Guard your mother ship with sphere formation of your repair ships. move all 102 ion cannon frigates so much easier than a wall. 102 frigates? where did they come from? the hyperspace inhibitor station was guarded by them. I captured them all! using salvage corvettes guarding a group of cloak generators in ... you guessed it... sphere formation. Captured almost every other ship the other side had. Also they got another name for "Cataclysm" but can't remember what it is. Deserts sounds very interesting. Ok enough of my blather. have fun everyone.
Cataclysm didn't get remade because somewhere along the line the source code was lost. As for getting the game to play on a new comp, use a virtual machine!
Very slow response time and is not using tactics even formation. I dont know if you are doing. It intentionally but this game is superb. You did a great job bringing memories of this game.
the gardens of kadesh seems way easier in the remaster, i just played it myself last night. i litrally quit this game before because i could never beat that damn mission but this time i only ever saw 1 or 2 of those pesky beam frigates and it wasnt hard at all.
Yes, indeed. It was told something about established communication between a spaceship and the Earth. And something about cosmonauts. Even though my mother tongue is Russian, I can understand only fragments of this transmission. I try to understand it completely, but can't hear it properly every time))
@@Flanker0804 Its an old soviet broadcast about Yuri Gagarin's first trip to space, they put it through heavy filters so it would sound like an alien language
Well, that is the reason why there's sound effects in the game whereas in reality, you are correct that in the vacuum of space, there is no medium like water, air or gas where sound waves can travel through and can be heard. I played this game too over and over again and in every battle scenario possible for several years.
THE WORST THING IS DAT THEY MADE THEM INTO HUMANS WHEN IN THE ORIGINAL GAME THEY ARE MEANT TO BE A LONELY ALIEN CIVILISATION :-/ THEY SHUDNT AVE CHANGED ANY OF THE AUDIO AND SOUNDS FROM THE ORIGINAL . JUS GIVE THE GRAPHICS AN UPGRADE .. THE ORIGINAL'S CINEMATICS WERE MUCH MORE AWESOME .. EVEN THE REMASTER DOESNT MATCH UP TO THE EXCELLENCE OF THE ACTUAL ORIGINAL.
They were always humans.... in fact, them being all humans is what made Homeworld so unique. Rather than different races, its just humans who've become so different in terms of culture and norms. The Kadeshi is a good example. To think that centuries ago, they were literally Hiigarans like us, but time turned them into religious zealots.
As the title indicates this was a movie, instead it's not - It's someone playing a game & not a movie at all. It's title & content do not match. It's deceptive clickbait & deserves my thumbs-down, so this TH-cam post got it.
Hard to believe that this game remains, 20 years later, the very zenith of the RTS genre.
This is probably one of the most beautiful games ever built.
Too bad the castrated gameplay and completely removed physics-based combat ruins the experience compared to the original.
The cost of placing game into newer engine. But hey, devs are giving full modding support ;)
Yes, but not the remaster, I wonder can't find any working crack no cd for HW 1 v1.05.. it ever crashes in Garden of Kadesh mission with crack.
You should edit this to say "one of the MOST beautiful games ever built".
@@relativityboy LOL. Nice catch, thank you.

Not to mention how much of a power magnifier the Multi-Beam Frigates from the Nebula inhabitants is.
I just wanted to interrogate every single one of them lol, especially knowing that "the subject did not survive interrogation"
@@kettch777 the fleet of multibeam frigets was Awesome- Had to build supports for them cause they could shoot themselves

Bad thing it's only usable as scrap. You can't use it for mining nor building.
Homeworld is not a game, it is a work of Art.
I agree

DOK isn't really in the same league but it's still a good RTS. It does some cool things like Terrain advantages.
What's so unbelievable about it? PC games from that time (1997 - 2003) are the best mechanically / gameplay-wise we've ever got.
There is a good space strategy game like this. It is called Off World Resource Base.
Akira Nikamura Sins wasn't 3D. Movement was handled on a 2D plane if I recall. And holy hell that game suffered for not having a campaign.
Nothing on TV, so why not a 4h 1/2 gameplay of Homeworld ?
I just noticed this has the platoon song in it.... thats the main reason it is awesome
This game would make an epic Netflix series.
Fanstastic stuff. Thank you for making and sharing. Along with Battlezone 98 and Mass Effect, this is my all-time favourite
All I can say is wow no other words really no other words for this
The best space RTS i ever played!

Hiigara, home.
If James Cameron doesn't make a movie out of this, I will.

My favorite old school strategy space game
I loved this back on the day. My favorite game. I had no idea a remastered version exists. Just found it on gog.com for $3.49! Couldn’t resist.
Can you get this on dvd?
Don't you sometimes just want to override controls of the interceptor and tell everyone to stop doing COOL DOGFIGHTING and stay in formation instead?

You should have captured at least two of the three destroyers at mission 5, they made my life waaay easier through the campaign
It’s Believable.......
You should've swapped the credits song for "Homeworld" by Yes. There's a mod around that actually swaps it in game
Narrator sounds like Charlton Heston.

Homeworld Remastered is available on Steam. The prequel, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is also in Steam
GOG has it. www.gog.com/game/homeworld_remastered_collection www.gog.com/game/homeworld_emergence (not affiliated, just dont like steam)
Don't forget to grab Homeworld: Emergence (aka. Homeworld: Cataclysm) lots of people consider story of that datadisk as best of the series.
SO, REALLY, WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ALL THIS SHOOTING ANYWAY?
There is no sound in space vacuum.
Despite of this slip, the game in whole is great!
I think a lot of us are fine with that since it adds to the immersion
>Simulated sound
So would you rather play a boring silent game without the sound effects of explosions, laser cannons and engine noises?
