@@aliciaxlife Berthold also mentioned it when they were defending the tower from the Titans at night a few episodes ago, when he said that Reiner "used to be more of a warrior."
Fun fact, Isayama is a huge fan of MMA which is why this fight was basically Titan MMA. Eren's titan body is based on the Japanese MMA fighter Yushin Okami with Takanori Gomi's southpaw fighting style being a reference/base for his fighting style in titan mode (striking techniques). The grappling techniques he uses against Reiner are based off real world techniques from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Reiner's titan body is a mix of different characteristics from the fighters Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem, and Wanderlei Silva.
In training I was choked out by a girl with the same move Annie did and I jokingly said did you do a Warriors training. 😂 Funnily enough she watched Attack on Titan and understood the reference and slyly bit her hand in response.
My boys Berry and Reiner finally showing their skills! Also, since it doesn't go fully into detail, the steam Bert gives off is hot enough to literally cook people, hence why they couldn't be anywhere near him.
@@Jupiter-Jazz that's a good point that I've never really thought about. Maybe the heat produced is purely external or his saliva acts as a sort of shield to the heat?
@BubbaJubbs What exactly is happening is (I think) exactly what Armin thought he was doing "he's maintaining his form and emitting heat like a furnace" - he's not simply creating heat from in his body, but using the outer layers of muscle and sinew as fuel to burn _like_ a furnace. That way the inside of his body isn't as hot as it should be from the heat, else he himself would cook inside the neck of the colossal too.
Isayama basically used the corresponding manga chapter to flex his knowledge on Wrestling forms. Studio Wit did a great job honoring the attention to detail in faithfully animating them.
You were right btw, in a previous conversation, Bert responded to "is he always like this?" or something of the sort with "No, he used to be more of a Warrior"
And you might be trying to remember when Annie mentioned that she had failed to become a warrior. Just might be what your brain's thinking. I wasn't sure said I'd toss up an idea. You're great at theorizing!!!! Always believed in you
I think you are probably thinking of the interaction between Conny and Bertholdt. After Reiner saved Conny, Reiner says that "Its the normal thing to do, since we are soldiers" Conny asks Bertholdt if he has always been like that but Bertholdt gives him a cryptic answer that seems like an insult to Reiner "Back then he was more of a warrior... unlike now". I think it happens on the 4th episode of this season. That was the first time I started seriously suspecting Reiner and Bertholdt.
The reveal of Annie, Reiner and Bert being the 3 titans that destroyed the walls, while in itself is huge, for me didn't even crack the top 10 mindf#@$ twists this show throws out.
I don't think a titan-shifter is stronger than a normal Human while untransformed. But keep in mind that Annie said her father trained her... and that's on top of the regular training that the other recruits got as well. And with their "records" to enlist in the military being fake, there's also a chance that they lied about their age to get in and thus might be older than Eren & Co.
the author is a fan of mixed martial arts this is why most closed combat fight moves are based on real life techniques such as annie's muai thai fighting stance, eren's brazilian jiu jitsu submission holds and if you havent noticed the armored titan is based on brock lesnar's physique a well known wrestler and a UFC fighter
The armored Titan can shed and regrow its armor while transformed to allow for either increased attack and defense or increased speed and agility It's honestly a damn good titan power compared to some of the other titan forms that we have/will see. Edit: apologies I thought that maybe it wouldn't be spoilers since it was shown but not talked about. I'm mostly just commenting on what was shown with a bit of what I remember being described. Again, sorry if it was too much of a spoiler since I can't remember which season/episode I know all of this from.
I just want an ova of hange being happy while testing with Titans and have experiences with the Titans that make her happy, like a wholesome hange titan episode.
I'm laughing at everyone who goes through that Cliffhanger because it's the biggest blueball moment of all anime history. Especially considering I went through that too😆
Isayama did confirm in some Q&A that Annie vs Mikasa was interrupted by their Instructor. So we don't know what happened but some people theorize Eren vs Reiner could be mirroring what happened and how Annie represents Martials Art through Eren with Mikasa representing brute force through Reiner. Some folks like to speculate Annie had the upper hand until Instructor Shadis interrupted much how Bertholdt interrupted this fight. Pure fan speculation mind you.
You mentioned Mikasa sticking her blades in between his plating into the fleshy bits but I think that's more of an anime stylization of his design than a real flaw. His armor is meant to be almost 100% impenetrable to our weapons, at least until he sprints and breaks off some of his leg armor to move faster.
Am curious: with the Colossal Titan, did you notice how much its flesh was melting away as it was steaming? It's gradual, but I think when Hannes shows up (around 17:32), you can see the flesh is gone from his left hand and forearm. And when it answered Reiner's call, there was barely any flesh left on the face.
So if this episode didn't make it clear enough but the author is a huge MMA or Martial arts fan so the titans for both Reiner and Eren are based on two fighters from different martial arts. You can search them up if you want to check out the similarities/inspiration. Eren's Titan is based on Yushin Okami. Reiner's Titan is based on Brock Lesnar.
Apparently, Armored Titan was heavily inspired by Brock Lesnar. Former UFC Champ and if you don't know him, look him up. Dude is actually built different.
....................................... to steal his ODM gear, since Colossal has the worst stamina of all titans, and he'll be defenseless once he gets out of it otherwise.

Annie talked about failing to be a warrior during the staircase scene in season 1

That ending shot of the Colossal Titan coming down with its mouth agape is legitimately one of the most terrifying moments in the entire series imo.
