  • Today we will look at how I built a fairly basic diorama base for my DAK Panzer III Ausf.H by Dragon. I hope you enjoy! I had not built a diorama in years, but this makes me want to do them more often :)

    DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

    Building a diorama is always a bit of a "back-and-forth" process, i am happy to see you showed that in the video! It will be helpful for both beginners and experts. You know what i think of the diorama you built there already :)

    A really well done diorama. Simplicity is often better - especially for a single model. Instead of hair spray, watered down PVA (white glue) through a spray bottle is effective for fixing sand, dirt, etc to bases. If you need to make the insulation look like rock/stone, you can texture with rolled up aluminum foil (idea from Black Magic Craft), and torn up cork stacked up can be effective looking stones, etc.

    I'm literally so impressed! Awsome work dude, looks so realistic and really matches the tank and a real happening scenario!

    Great work! I really like the cracked river bed. I have a proxxon hot wire table and it’s great, with a bit of practice you can get very clean and repeatable cuts. Although it’s not cheap I’d recommend it to anyone that builds lots of dioramas and or buildings.

  • @morssdn
    @morssdn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    about 17 mins in it also looks good as a wet mud base. Top job. I'm amazed you can actually buy a product to simulate cracks on a surface! The attitude of the tank would make it a very good candidate for metal tracks to get the "real sag".

    That Mk iii is beautifully finished. A great diorama too. A memory from a North Africa veteran regards the physical setting, "It was a shabby, rocky, gritty landscape, ridges stick up in knife-edges like a comb of rock....pinnacles like the jagged spine of a Brontasaurus".

    That base of yours is very well done as is your tutorial video! I like putting my tanks on a base as well as it first, tells a story of where the vehicle operated as well as the terrain and second, when displayed at a show the judges don’t actually touch the model. Once again well done!

    Really do love this diorama (I think the "story" thing is taken too far by IPMS for sure- this scene puts the tank in a specific time and place and the crew are clearly there for a reason- sounds like a story to me! The specifics may be up to the viewer but I think letting the viewer imagine some extra story is a plus). Anyway it's very cool to watch the idea stay static but the techniques to achieve it evolve as you progress. I wonder how many of us draw these "the tank goes here" markings as we sort out the groundwork?? Haha. Very well researched, it's a smart scene that really sells the dry river bed and rocky terrain you're after. Looking forward to your next project! And if you want to save a little time and cut out some steps, if you can get some premixed, water based drywall spackle, it basically cuts out both the sculptamold and clay steps. And if you wanted to, you could add the dirt, sand, rocks, and fallen branches as it's drying to really lock it all together quickly. The end results are basically the same, but could save you some application/drying time.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tanks have lower ground pressure than a person does. I don't sink into a rocky riverbed so neither will the tank.

    • @cygnusx10
      @cygnusx10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sinking into the ground usually only occurs when the vehicle is stationary and has has time to settle - even then it's usually not much except if the ground is wet. There's a picture here that shows when tanks are on the move they create very little depressions in the ground apart from the track. c8.alamy.com/comp/C45EE2/german-panzer-iii-in-north-africa-C45EE2.jpg

      some sprues are used between different kits so they will result in unused parts depending on which box/kit the sprue is with.
