      Also he said after 12 months the face will return to its original state.. thats a good thing! Meaning my face will be 36 not 37. Also gravity won't affect the face the same way. Lets say you slept and wore a bra 24/7 for 5 years. That means your skin will be more intact and your chest won't droop as much.

    DO NOT get a thread lift, it's horrific. I had one recently and it's caused nothing but pain and anxiety. I've done fillers, botox and microneedling without any issues for years, but thread lift was a nightmare. First, the procedure itself was very painful. I then had extreme nerve-related pain, like a stabbing pain everytime I moved my face a certain way for almost three weeks. I then developed a fibroma in my right jaw, with swelling, like a "ball" under my skin. I got my money back but I'm now having to get hyaloronidase injections to soften the fibroma. It's been horrible and I'm worried I'm never going to get rid of this fibroma. Please be safe.

    Dr. Youn, we've always respected you and we agree with a lot of what you've said here, but we want to make 1 clear distinction: Thread Lifts are a great option for those who don't mind spending more to avoid surgery and have a shortened downtime. We've had several mother-of-the-brides and mother-of-the-grooms do these just a month or two prior to the wedding and be tremendously happy. Of course we're always clear that the results don't last more than 1 year (at most), but we also don't charge what a facelift would cost (Thread lifts are around $3500 -$5500 at our practice vs. a facelift is $7k - 15k depending on the add-ons you choose). We agree that for a patient who's willing to have surgery, and who has the time for that extended recovery, a facelift almost always makes more sense long-term, but we also know there are a lot of patients who are happy with a temporary improvement so long as they can avoid surgery. Why not offer both? We believe offering a wide array of treatments is in the best interest of the patient.

      I see some good points in your reply, but there is a bigger problem here that is yet to be fully elucidated, and that is seen repeatedly clinically with multiple exposures to thread lifts. The article Dr. Youn refers to in the video mentions this problem, and as surgeons who perform multiple facelifts, we are able to identify it when the facial tissue is in our hands. Namely, it is the process of "cheese grating", whereby the facial muscular contractions lead to repeated rubbing of the soft tissue against the "barbs". Although many of today's threads are absorbable, it takes several weeks to months before they are dissolved, often resulting in many weeks to months of exposure to this harmful kinetic movement. I have rarely seen more fibrotic tissue than when I have operated on a patient with multiple thread lifts or with multiple injections of semi-permanent fillers. Often patients with multiple exposures to thread lifts complain that their face no longer feels natural, but rather rubbery and hard. There is a level of truth to this and it has to be explained to patients. At the same time, you are right that some patients will simply never succumb to a knife, and there are also a significant number of patients who are not candidates for surgery (i.e. smokers). It is these patients who will look for gratifying solutions that may not last long, but offer some respite in the meantime. For such patients, we have technologies and combinations that can result in excellent results and they are all summarized succinctly in another video by Dr. Youn that can be viewed here: th-cam.com/video/mEeLMq9EfMI/w-d-xo.html. I prefer these approaches to thread lifts as the type of collagen produced is much more in keeping with the natural collagen that we have in our bodies, and I have rarely received the complaints I receive from patients with multiple thread lift treatments. I still offer thread lifts from time to time, especially for patients who would like relatively quick results, but with the caveat that I will only ever perform such lifts up to three times in a life time. I also want to share that this post is not designed to undermine any particular treatment or to arrogantly refuse to accept that there are always new treatments that will emerge in time. It is just to state the realities of what I have found in over 10 years of advanced facial surgical and non-surgical treatments

    Dissenting opinion: No decent Dr should be saying this is permanent. It is temporary and when done right on the right candidates, it does lift and work most definitely. Acne scars and depressed labial lines can be plumped up but of course lifting is most notable on the 35 to 55 age with sagging jowls and depressed, exaggerated nasolabial folds. The impact is most immediate and does become longer lasting effect compared to fillers alone. No general anesthesia, fraction of the cost, risk is low. To say he knows this is a non starter is really disingenuous. It isn't provided as a one time treatment nor that all people will be prime candidates. Defining lip lines is my favorite as filler is too hard to control fine details. This is a good treatment and the fact that it is resorbs makes it safer than the permanent versions. Look for before and afters pics. There are plenty of good visuals. The articles are comparing threads to Long term results akin to Plastic surgery results....More invasive and risky but longer lasting.

  • @mary-fl8np
    @mary-fl8np 4 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Hello dr. Youn, you are of course right about the duration of the threadlifts. However, in europe at least they cost around 200 euros (while you need to triple the amount of money for a filler (undereye, to lift a bit of sagging from bone loss at jaw level, anything more than that is really expensive). HA lasts six months or less as a filler as far as I know. Most of the plastic surgeons tell you that the threads last 1 year and if the doctor is talented the result is pretty good. I had both fillers and threads - not at the same time. I started from the age of 32, so the changes that I had (and needed) were really subtle. Except for the time that i used radiesse (which resulted in "cellulite"appearance and I wouldn't recommend), I had to inject HA again after 7 mostly 9 months. I read that HA can last up to 18 months ( I wonder which formulation and other terms and conditions, eg. a person's physiology probably?) Not to say that from the threads I was really excited to gain very very cute dimples (yes yes yes) as I smile (and I was always jealous of the persons with dimples). In my opinion, as a "patient" threads are not that bad value for money if someone cannot afford fillers, but fillers give more youthfull appearance since they restore volume.

  • @katkepa444
    @katkepa444 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    While I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of dr Youn's opinions on aesthetic medical procedures, I strongly disagree with the statements made in this video. I don't think one can generalise when it comes to the efficacy of thread lifts, as there are so many types of threads available on the market- PDO, PCA, PLA, mono threads, cogs.. the list goes on. Depending on the type of threads, amount of threads administered and the injection protocol of the treatment, a long lasting effect can be sustained. Aside from a 'physical lift' that threads may initially provide, as they gradually dissolve, they stimulate the production of collagen in the treated area and help rejuvenate the tissue long after the threads themselves have dissolved. This in turn can make for a denser, healthier dermis which 'holds up' for far far longer than the 1 year quoted here.

    • @kit.e6864
      @kit.e6864 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah, people like Dr. Rajni are all for them (and sculptra too), Dr Youn seems to be ok with sculptra too though. I don't think they'd be so popular in S korea and Europe if the scar tissue really affected having a face lift later..if anything you'd have a nicer skin when it came time for a real face lift.

  • @AngelEyez727
    @AngelEyez727 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    ….. but PDO threads stimulate new collagen when the threads dissolve, so technically it’s NOT a “waste of money” if it’s actually doing something great to the skin and not just lifting the skin with no actual long term benefit.
    I know several people who get them done and they not only looking great with it but look great after the threads dissolve, especially if you redo the procedure every few months to a year. I think it’s definitely worth it & I can’t wait to get mine done this summer, though I don’t have “saggy eyelid” by any means (I’m 30), I just want a more “lifted/foxy” look 😊

Sometimes even to topical cream anesthesia. I will not undergo any cosmetic surgery bc I think my heart will not tolerate it. My docs says my heart is healthy and good but I trust my gut. With this what I want to say is that surgery is not for everyone. I believe threads are a good option to surgery. They are as effective as some fillers in my opinion. For someone like me who is starting to show signs of aging, I can’t do surgery. At least drs says I still don’t have a fixable problem. Fillers and threads are now my option.

    Thanks for this video. I worked with a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and we had to remove the threads (the permanent ones). People must understand that a facelift is not just "pulling the face." Instead, tissue is dissected, excess skin removed and skin is placed in a new "uplifted" position ... and then, the skin heals and holds in position (until normal aging continues). A lot can be done when the skin is held off the face. I would also love for you to do a piece on those stupid "faradic current" units that tweek the muscles (like a T.E.N.S. unit). These were developed in the 1920s, and make a come-back every few hears. They're "on us" yet again! Point: wrinkles don't happen in the muscles ... and the units are useless.

    He doesn't know the basics, first he says permanent threads don't work (not true, they did do very well what they intended to do), then he says (non-permanent) threads are less effective ??? Really? Like negative effect?! The PDO threads stimulate collagen production along their path for a year or more. More importantly, they don't intend to do what permanent threads do, their "scope of work" is different from permanent ones. In modern Aesthetic Medicine NOTHING is or should be permanent, our bodies constantly change, so do the aesthetic trends. That is why plastic surgeries and permanent threads leave the stage for non-permanent solutions (but of course some people hate that and pay for ads like this one). Today nobody injects silicone anymore.. cuz it's permanent.

I am 77 years old and they take decades of years off of me. They only last around 6 months (for me). I am subtle with my cosmetic procedures. I am a cosmetologist/esthetician and have a system that works well for me. Nobody has guessed that i get botox and other fillers and threads. I use the hyaloron pen around my lips. Saves me tons of money. And i inject my botox in 2 places with short needles. However, the threads i leave to the doc to insert and have found one who works on me for between $550 and $700. h. People need differant applications. Go slow and don't over due treatment. God Bless!

    Personally, I think all “Facelifts” should be avoided. One of my dearest friends recently had a facelift on the lower part of her face, a neck tightening, and some fat fillers, Botox, etc. She was very diligent in her research and used a licensed plastic surgeon. When the doctor & his staff saw her on her first return visit, they were shocked at how bruised she was...she was more black than blue, eyes swollen almost completely shut, and within a week of that first visit, developed a huge hematoma, about two inches thick and almost one inch deep, on her neck, from ear to ear. She had to go in twice a week and they literally had to “Strangle” the blood out of the hematoma, pushing the excess blood out a hole by her ear. Five weeks later, she still has a “cable” type knot of coagulated blood running from each ear towards her clavicle bone, which her surgeon says he “hopes” will reabsorb into her body in time. She hides these cables with her long hair. Does she look younger? Yes. Was it worth it? Well, she didn’t die. I’ll let you be the judge.

Just saying this is the kind of risk you have to be willing to take, because no one knows if they are an appropriate candidate for surgery until during or after the surgery…of any kind. Some surgeries are necessary and life saving. The question people who are opting for elective surgery for the sake of looking better need to ask themselves is: Is this worth possibly having severe complications or even death? This woman is my oldest and closest friend. The fact that she could have died for the sake of a better neck/jawline is horrific to me.

      That’s bc her dr used the barbed threads. They have new smooth & dissolvable threads that don’t cause fibroids.

    I wouldn't call it a waste of money. We are upfront with the clients that it is temporary so they know what they are getting. It is far less costly and less risky than surgery and the results are very good so I don't see how its a bad thing. Botox and fillers wear off sooner and cost more in the long term. Overall, the modern threadlifts are a better value for the client.

    I had a thread lift in my eyes (cat eye) and my cheeks (cog thread) after 2 weeks I barely see any changes of "lift". Maybe there is, 3%? But after 6 months my face and brows never change a bit, even if my doctor said it will last for 2 years. What last, my expectation lasted for nothing. Shoot. I wasted money for that cra*

    In post Soviet countries, like Russia, Ukraine . . . they have been using the Threadlifts for many years . . . There are like million types of them. Dissolvable, non dissolvable . . . Indeed, they help. Maybe those, that dissolve - Just for one year, but still, the whole year your face is lifted. The ones that do not dissolve can keep your face lifted for much longer.
    Just the price is cheaper, like much cheaper than in US. My friend did this lift, she was in love with her lifted face) she looked very young

    I had these done 2 weeks ago. OMG. what pain. Threads poking me under my chin. Last night I had one poking me under my tongue. I had to readjust them and it stopped then everything was inflamed. When I woke up it felt like my face and neck was frozen. I usually have a very high pain tolerance but when my nerve becomes irritated. I am ready to remove them myself. Besides my husband could care less what I look like.

  • @1pepper67

    I'll be 55 in 3 weeks and I have been thinking about getting threads. I actually don't mind the fact that it is temporary. It will build collagen which will help even after the threads dissolve. What makes me have second thoughts is the price. Very expensive for something temporary and will have to be done again in a year or two. I think I'd rather spend more and get more long term results. If it was cheaper I would definitely get threads. Plus doing it multiple times doesn't seem good for your face in the long run. There's seems to be more cons. I think in time when it is more of a common procedure like Botox, the price might lower and be more accessible for people that don't want to spend a lot for a temporary fix.

    Boy am I glad I stumbled on you today!
    I’m a new Aesthetician and I’ve been researching different machines that give Real Results.
    Anyways.... My dentist has been providing Botox and Juviderm XR to patients for yrs with great results. When I went in the other day for a cleaning, I told him I needed a Juviderm touch up on my nasolabial folds and he told me he was learning the threading procedure and how I’d get better results.
    So I was really debating on doing it.
    Well now I can’t wait to show him this video 😂
    and tell him HELL NO I’m not waisting my money on something that’ll fade in a year! So Thank you Doc!! I appreciate your honesty. If only all doctors were as honest as you 👍

      Charlene H I do threads and my dr does 10 smooth threads for $150 and I love them. I have done Botox for years and due to sagging when my face pushed up to smile, I had lines all down the lower part of my face and as you know Botox can be $300-$500. I wanted to try threads so I went in asking for the barbed PDO and my dr did as requested but also explained that smooth used in conjunction give best results. I was unwilling to put out more money at that time. Now barbs are $150 each and I did 6 so yes that was $900 BUT because I have gone there for years he did 4 smooth on lip lines and 16 on each side of my face for free. I will say by far and for the money, smooth threads are my go to even over Botox that I love. Even IF $300 worth of threads only last 3-6 months, I’ve saved money. So the concept of smooth is that it adds volume and the body as the thread dissolves, forms collagen around it which is what we loose as we age. I hate the barbed (which I asked for) because they hurt after the procedure and at times, I feel like it is sitting on a nerve and I get a sharp pain. That lasted 3 weeks post procedure and I’m hesitant to do barbed again but after a year of threading a couple of times, I am a believer in smooth threads and the collagen building effects.

      Lyndal Wilson Believe it or not many dentist’s OBGYN,s Ophthalmologist’s, Gastroenterologist’s, Internists, and even Podiatrist’s are providing Botox and Juviderm fillers but my dentist has decided not to do threading and I’m glad I decided not to get it done. I just turned 44 and I’m really starting to notice my facial features changing and it’s depressing but I have to come to terms that aging is inevitable 😔

I am going to search for a certified very experienced esthetic injector or board certified plastic surgeon to do smooth threads on my face.

    Hi doctor. Is there any long term negative affects if we repeat this thread lift every time they dissolve? I’m still keen on this idea even tho it’s semi permanent

    • @spopparty
      @spopparty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      seems hard to get honest on that, surgeons don't like them because they don't last. so if we get them with realistic expectations what can one expect? the DIY people will defend them as the greatest thing ever and cry when anyone says otherwise... but like doctors, don't forget they are there earning a commission on these sales but no one really knows since they haven't done them long enough. every time you do something there is a risk, and if it has to be repeated so many times then that risk increases.
