Can you set up a pivot table so every time you download a bank statement it will automatically format itself? Perhaps if there was a way to assign a classification to each line item on the banks site that would be part of the download?
Hi Charlie, Yes, you could do this with a Macro command, and I agree it would be great if there was some kind of standard coding applied by banks to each transaction. But, I guess that this in itself might cause confusion.
Hi Simplekind, look for the + in the bottom left corner when the cell is active. Then drag it down. Alternatively Google 'Excel Autofill' to learn the technique. :-)
Very handy. But I have a problem with sorting after the analysis column is populated. It won't sort properly with i.e Descrip col. The analysis col info won't follow the sort. I assume it's something to do with the way valid list behaves? Anyone?
The CSV file I've taken from an account from HSBC bank, the numbers £-/+ figures are not active therefore I can't add or use auto sum (always gives 0 as total ) do you know a way of making these figures active? without having to type each amount into other columns ( debit /credit ) Any advice would be appreciated
This was great, I've been wasting money on those personal financial software applications for years thanks for this tip.
Glad it was helpful! :-)
Great video used twice this morning and it’s fab 🎉

I am new to spreadsheets and was able to get a grasp of building a spreadsheet

Fantastic Solution 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I cannot seem to get the "drop down arrow" for the rest of the cells. Only the "d2 " cell. You say to drag the cursor down but what option do I paste?

Great video, very helpful!
Glad it was helpful! :-)
Thank you! 👍
You're welcome! 😎
That is so well explained! I cannot automatically enter positive and negative numbers into the same column... Do you know what is the issue?
Hi, You can check your work against the original. A download is available at www.MrSpreadSheet.com :-)

Hi Travis, the idea is that the Pivot Table facilitates this, rather than the raw data.
Amazing video. WOW!
Thank you very much!
Very interesting, but need to watch it again.

Hi Pamela, try using an IF Statement and then when OK copy/drag down the formula. Save's retyping :-)
