2.1 and 5 easily the best. I wish there were a library of DOS game soundtracks with all the different soundcard versions, at times I've looked up old games I used to play only to be like "yeah that sounds nothing like the version I played" and it kills the nostalgia a bit. Weird I know.
2:1 Soundscape MIDI FTW!!! Best one out of all of them in my book. The 2 Soundscape Ablid emulation sound like a wet noodle. Just terrible! And what's with the 3: AWE 32 MIDI sounding like it was recorded in a cathedral? Way too much chorus on it. This is an amazing comparison and the little teenager in me from the 90's is absolutely geeking out. Thank you for posting this! DO DOOM NEXT!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!
i really really wish somebody recorded the midis from doom tnt evilution on a sound blaster awe 32 and put it on youtube. I had that card, i really wish to hear that sound again. bring me memories.
I mean I could technically do that but it would take forever. But are you sure nobody has done that? I am certain I saw at least one video where somebody recorded the Doom 2 midi on AWE 32.
@@the1990kman The Doom II midi, yes. But I'm looking for the final doom: TNT evilution midis. I always search youtube from time to time to see if someone has posted it, specially blood jungle and death's bells, but, so far, nothing. I've also tried to mess with soundfonts and stuff, but not only I am not savvy at all in this matter, but it seems that awe32 is difficult to do because of the wavetable or some shenanigan like that that I could not understand properly. It makes me miss my old computer from my teenage years. (like we say in brazil, if regret could kill, I would have died for giving it to my ex) but it is what it is. If you wish to do it, I would be grateful, but only if you want to. If not, I'm grateful anyways for your answer, and will keep looking. Maybe one day I will muster my courage (and money) to build a retro PC with an AWE32 and do it myself if I never find it on YT. I kinda miss the simpler (but headachy) DOS days. 😅
i had a sound blaster AWE64. i just need the name of that app that comes with sound blaster CD-ROM. you can press keys as a piano and play music and you can change the instruments i remind changing to "Orchestra Hit" and making the the Mortal Kombat Theme
Yeah, that's because it's the Ensoniq OPUS trying to approximate Adlib sounds using its wavetable. Pretty much any card that does that ends up sounding pretty stinky
This is why TH-cam was invented
no it isnt

My first sound card was one of SBAWE32. It will always sound the best for me. Even now I still use it's soundfont with any soundcard I have.
2.1 and 4 are my fav, 4 is number 1 because i love the way it changes the pitch of the tune
You got a new follower good Sir.
This was cool. Would love to hear some other DOS game tracks like this.
Where was this video 30 years ago?
Thanks for this :)

4 and 5 are so good!
The problem is that the modulated (OPL) music was in game different than in this setup.
Curiously duke theme in sound test and in game are very different
Peak content.

4:08 is this soundfont available somewhere?
I'm not sure, I didn't look that up. But I think if you try to search it, you should be able to find it.

That ensoniq card is weak lmao
Yeah, what’s supposed to be distorted guitar has more of a brass horn tone.

2.1 sounds the most familiar to me.
No opl?
What do you mean?
@@the1990kman midi is not opl
@@szyszka8303 Yeah, you are right. I'm sorry for that mistake. But the video is mostly about midi, so I didn't think about it.
