A lot of 'TH-camrs' are just doing their channels for gain and out of Greed. Your channel has always been fantastic for me to watch as I am Disabled and can't get around as much as I would like so seeing your woodland and wildlife is something that I can't always get out and see X Camping is also something we love and have adapted to our needs now X Love watching all your videos short or long X Take Care X
Good on you Steve, completely agree with your sentiment and all power to you for sticking to your principles. I'm not a fan of shorts either. Don't watch them and have no desire to start producing them for my channel. Integrity and simplicity is key to any decent channel in my humble opinion. As for the other shenanigans that folk get up to in order to boost views, it's a real shame (putting it mildly!), instills bad practice and has set a tragic precedent for future outdoor enthusiasts and content creators. Your videos give me a wonderful feeling, some calmness in an otherwise hectic, stressful, and painful world. This is why I watch them over and over again. I like your ethics Steve. I despair at some tactics to get views - I mean soft porn in camp. re-supporting smaller channels or even those starting out I'm always happy to do that. I'm always surprised and upset how some channels do well and otgers don't, you have to play by their rules, and i guess there are tricks to do this? What you said the other day about comments helping, made me think. I need to comment more to others. I didnt know you had 2 other channels. What are they?
@@craftywildcamps Yeah, I've been here 13 years over and still only have 4,000 subs and my videos crawl out of the blocks despite good thumbnails etc. Mind you I don't advertise. For sure engagement is my main thing - getting out there and seeing what others are up too. I like to comment - it helps all round and fosters that friendship. It's good fun! My other channels. One is for research - I just save information on it via carious folders and the other is old - our first. It's called 'Mark On The Way-Wye' it's mainly me and my dear late twin. Wonderful is willow in the right place 😊. The likes of Amazon were created to not be allowed to fail to ensure they gain a monopoly built on convenience and out pricing everyone else. Thank you. 😊👍

Yes all correct Steve , I have one short only because it was only 10 seconds long and YT put into shorts otherwise it was just a short video I made right at the beginning of my YT days. Too many looking for glory with clickbait titles or scantily clad females 😂 but your right YT has changed , I only post to look back in years to come. I guess I don’t fit in with YT algorithm these day 🤷 ah well atb Dave
Never done shorts, never done anything utuub asked me. And it shows.. About trees, don't buy them: you can not be sure of it's origins. For small scale, as you do, it's much better to get local indigenous stuff. It has proven to rejuvenate so the results will also be better. I'm sure you can find seedlings from birch beech oak hazel blackthorn etc. In my experience, they always outcompete planted stuff from nurseries full of fertilizer and chemicals. Also, most of the genotype is cloned and has way less variety than wild seedlings. amen sorry cheers, glad you are still around..
I've just quickly done a couple of shorts, they are a pain in the arse! Useless really, except for ticking boxes to please the powers that be. Yes I have had a few regeneration trees coming through, but mainly ash and sycamore. I have been transplanting saplings from other parts of the wood. But I need more variety, just incase more disease comes our way. We have a few approved disease tree nurseries around me, but like you say you can't trust anyone.
This is the first I'd heard that you need to make 'shorts' to monetise. I have the subs but not the views to monetise and up till now have refused to make a 'short' on principle that they are sh#t. That said I made a protest video featuring nothing but my kettle, one minute long and it's one of my best viewed, lol. You aren't wrong, boobs, boneheads and BS is what makes the average successful YT 'outdoor' video these days, oh and trying to sell stuff. Whatever happened to plain adventures in nature? Good luck with your endeavours and I hope you succeed.
