I found this inspiring. It's a realistic look at a functional studio rather than a perfect set-up from someone who just collects supplies for youtube videos.
I truly appreciate showing your cluttered studio. I have tons of art supplies and will be moving into a condo with limited space. Not everyone has the luxury of tons of space (and I do recognize owning lots of art supplies is a sort of luxury in itself) and it's just nice to see a "not perfect" art studio. I wish you the best on meeting your financial goals so you can get your art studio built!

It's nice to see so many pretty studios, don't get me wrong, but for many it's not immediately attainable and it gives pressure for the need to have the perfect space before you actually do art. Which is not practical or a healthy art journey. So thank you for your lived in studio. We all start here before we get someplace else.

It's so refreshing to see someone share their true, lived in studio with supplies on every surface and projects in various places because it's relatable. Very few of us have "Instagram perfect" work areas. In all honesty, although my room is cluttered because it's small and I have a lot of art/scrapbooking supplies, I work better when I can see what I have so to have a clean, tidy and clinical looking room wouldn't work for me because with how my mental health is, if I don't see my supplies I forget about them so they don't get used. Seeing that others work in that creative chaos is inspiring as it let's people like myself see that we are not alone, we are all sharing something we love, making 'mess' doing what we love and if others don't like that then it's their own problem. As for the lady who felt the need to comment saying that she couldn't watch your videos because your studio is too cluttered, woohoo for her and her perfect home/studio space! Don't let the door hit you on the way out! There was no need for her to even comment something like that, she could have just clicked out of your video without saying anything so don't let her negativity get to you. Keep on being true to yourself as that's what has brought this community together - your passion for art, your authenticity and your love of sharing/teaching with us 💜
Thanks for the encouraging comment! Knowing that you're opening yourself up for judgement by strangers on here when you start a channel, and then actually experiencing it, are two entirely different things! I thought I was ready, but it does still sting a little, so it means a lot to me that you and the other people who were kind enough to leave a supportive comment approve of the way I work! And actually, I feel a lot like you! I try to keep the materials that I am working with that week out, because if they are all put away, I'm not going to take the time and energy to dig them out and actually use them. I totally know where you are coming from. Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Thank you for showing your studio. I think your space is great.. of course a bigger art studio would be great but it will come in time. I loved seeing your little furry friend.
Thank you so much 😀It's definitely a working studio and some days it looks like a tornado went through, but at least it means I created something that day! Thank you for watching!
I enjoyed your studio tour! I think a cluttered studio full of supplies everywhere is more realistic/representative than a perfect, spacious studio. I’m guessing most people don’t have a huge, dedicated room in their house for themselves. I have a small craft room, probably similar in size to your space. It is also FULL of every supply for every hobby interest I’ve had throughout the years. There are a ton of cricut supplies (and the old cartridges!), scrapbooking supplies, jewelry making, cake and cookie decorating, cross-stitching, acrylic painting, card-making/rubber-stamping, etc. My watercolour and gouache supplies are in a small desk beside the sofa in our family room. My craft room also gets repurposed every Nov/Dec to store and wrap Christmas gifts 😅.
We all arrange our studios as best we can. My studio is my clutter, and I know where to find everything. I recently "cleaned" my studio, and then I could not find anything. It's getting better now. I loved your studio tour, thank you for sharing it with us.
That happens to me all the time! I clean and then I can't find my stuff! Or sometimes, I put something away "somewhere safe" and then I forget where I put it! I do have a ton of stuff, but it all has a place and I know where it is when I need it as long as I don't clean! THank you for watching!
I love your studio, so many supplies you could create for YEARS! Also, I had success bringing completely dried 3yo HIMI gouche back to creamy. If you want me to share what worked on mine, let me know. Thanks for taking us through your studio. I think more of us can relate to limited space than not. ❤
Thank you for sharing your space with us! Clutter is just a result of being an artist. I have to limit what mediums I work with because my space is also my music studio and I have to retain floor space to teach.
Yep! I hear you! Not everyone has the luxury of having a large space to work in! And art takes supplies so... oh well! It is what it is! Thank you for watching!
I love my pencils! I love that you can just pick them up when you have a few minutes and there's no mess or clean up and you don't have to worry about your paint drying up. They are so easy! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing your studio with us! It's nice that you can contain all your art supplies to one room, and I love all the windows! My little 6.5'x10' space has one very small window. I'm thankful for the space, although some of my supplies do spill out into the livingroom lol. ;)
I do love my windows! They face south, so in the winter it is the warmest room in the house which makes it nice and cozy! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
Having to store half of my supplies in our living room and our kids playroom I absolutely understand that you need to take advantage of every space you got 😅 I mean yeah it is cluttered but it's full of surprises and fun supplies everywhere you look at 🥰
Right? Thank you for saying that! I felt kind of vulnerable posting this video, in case people would judge me. I do the best I can in the space I have, and I am so grateful to have any space at all to work in. Thank you so much for watching!
As someone with limited space, I feel your pain! But hey as long as you know where things are that's all that matters haha And in regards to your Himi gouache, Kristy Rice made a video a few weeks ago where she revived hers which I think might be helpful!
Wow so many neat art supplies to work and play with. I’d really like to see how you make your own sketch book as a video when you get to that project. Also which brand of masking fluid do you prefer when you need masking? I would also like to know what you think of the NY watercolor paper when you get a chance to play around with it and see how well or not so well it works. I’ve been really curious about it because it seems to be a little more affordable than some of the other brands. I just wonder if it performs well especially the cold press. Thanks for sharing Amy. Hope you are doing well and feeling well. Have a wonderful day. 😊
I will definitely do a video when I make the sketchbook, thank you for the idea! And I Will also be testing the NY paper soon as well! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!
I don't have an art room, I have an art corner which is a tiny table at the end of my kitchen cupboards. My kitchen is tiny and my table is wedged in between the wall and cupboard and faces a wall!!! I live in a one bed bungalow so not much storage space, it is my birthday today and because I don't have family or friends I buy art supplies all year and wrap them up then forget what I've bought lol. So now I don't know where the new stuff will go but I'm saving up for a small summer house to store stuff but I draw and pint every day and love it
oh that is such a fun idea! I actually don't get much for presents or celebrations, either, just my husband and my kids if they remember. Sometimes, it can feel a little lonely, so I know where you are coming from. I hope your summer home becomes a beautiful little haven, and you have a wonderful space to enjoy your art! Thank you for watching!
You can re-hydrate the jelly quash. Mine had dried out to our use very warm verging on hot water. Just a little bit at a time and let it soak in and you can move it a little bit eventually and then do the same thing but make sure you leave it soak for overnight.
This was so relatable - firstly - you could have made this video in my actual art room - I have pretty much the same supplies as you! Secondly - it’s good to see realistic spaces. I have a rather large bedroom but only 1 usable wall for storage and a closet. Today I took inventory of my canvases and paper stock so i don’t buy anymore!!! It’s good to take stock once in a while to revive the enthusiasm - and it’s an opportunity to reset my space. Thanks for sharing this was a really interesting and fun validation for me!
I am so glad that it was relatable! Honestly, I think I sort of fell into the Instagram trap and thought everybody else had perfect spacious studios! I was actually nervous to share this, because I was afraid that it wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing enough! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
@@winterwoodsstudio I’ve had studios in the craziest of places! One summer it was in a camper by a lake … another seasons of my life I was in an unfinished basement beside the laundry and under the stairs. It wasn’t ideal because of dampness and dust from the floor boards above. I also had a studio in my front porch. It was 6x8 and had a mean slope to the south - so every time I sat at that desk I got sore abs! It was aesthetically pleasing and a lovely sunny place to work … but I had to store all my stuff in crazy places ( under the beds … under the desk, in boxes in the basement … in my kitchen drawers … it was a small house but it wasn’t ideal for having what I needed at my finger get tips!). I then moved it into a small bedroom. 9x11 … with no closets - but everything was in one place and man it was packed too! I did consider not selling that house when I moved in with my love … and just keeping the entire house as my art studio - but frankly I was tired of the maintence an entire house required. I think I should have kept it sometimes… it would have been a cute art house, but the money I sold it for helped me grow my “hoard” faster here!! :) Now I’m in a large bedroom with bay window and closet … it has a Murphy bed … and a bathroom attached ( great for clean up ) but I still long for a workspace where I can get messier! A place to cut glass, a place to do resin ( where I don’t have to smell it). A place to make frames and use stinky wood stain …. For now I just back my car out of the garage and do these things in the summer - because winter is way too cold here for that! A lot of my time is resetting the space. Taking inventory … and organizing according to what I’m working on. I try to keep close at hand the things I’m working on at the moment … and cycle through it. My point is - no matter what we have it’s always evolving and as creative people we always make it work… the most important part of any artists life is the time factor. We will make art wherever we are - as long as we have the commodity of a few moments of time :) That’s what we do!
Wow, it was like watching a stock inventory in progress at Blick Art! So many different types of art materials, all stowed away into your miniature Aladdin's Cave. And it's an amazing aspect of human memory that I bet you're able to locate almost every single supply within a few seconds when you need to. Thanks for showing us all around; I think we now know why you're keen to get hubby started on the foundations for your new art studio 🙂 Oh, and by the way, congrats on passing the 2,500 subscriber mark - another little milestone going forward. Kind regards, Brian.
I love my little space and I am SO grateful to have the supplies I do. I didn't always have such a big selection and I had to make do with the bae minimum. I am grateful every day for what I have now! I'd love to have a big studio someday, but for now, I'm glad to have any space at all! And thank you for the congratulations! I was watching it and took a screen shot when I got there! I say, celebrate the wins, right? Thanks again for taking the time to comment!
You have a very cozy little studio! Mine is not much bigger and it is also packed full in every corner. However, you are much more organized than me , lol! Although I do usually know where everything is or should be approximately, haha!
Ha ha, Yep the same here! Every now and then I put something back in the wrong spot and I get so mad at myself because it's like a treasure hunt to try to find it again! Thank you for watching Eleanor!
Did you try put the bullet table in front of the window and put a closet floor to ceiling to guard canvas, paper and block papers? I think maybe some shelf dividers i the door closet and some smaller drawers helps you to have your art material more organizer, and maybe put another small closet between the futon and your open door . I'm like to see your studio, and your pet that I forget the name of furão in english!!!!
Part of the problem is that there are heat radiators all around the room on the two short sides and one of the long sides, so I can't have anything built in like a closet. Maybe I need to rearrange. Maybe I could find a better solution. Thanks for the comment!
I am loving it! I like it so much better than my small iPad, but I still don't quite have the hang of photoshop yet! Thank you for watching and commenting, Tracie! I appreciate it!
Thanks for the tour, I have a studio room calling my name, but I can’t get it cleaned or organized because I can’t get out of dads sight for very long. I’m in the process of swatching my Turner qouache and I think I’m going to like it. I like the matte finish. I’m excited to use as soon as possible! 0:06
I'm really enjoying the matte finish too! It's so lovely and velvety! I really hope things are going okay with your dad. I'm sending you lots of virtual hugs! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment even though you have so much going on. I really do appreciate it!
@@winterwoodsstudio I had to pause your video three times, dad was a mess this morning! He’s 94 years old and has cancer tracking through the nerves in his head which is adding pressure to the dementia. I think the matte finish is a better look than the plastic shiny finish of acrylics.
@@pamb2734 Boy that sounds so tough! Sending lots of love to both you and your dad! Don't forget to do your best to take care of yourself as well when you're able. Sending you more virtual hugs!
There's just a quick show and tell of a few things I've made on it in the past in the video that went up today! I'm going to do a "how to make your own kiss cu and die cut stickers on a Cricut" sometime this summer too! Thank you for watching!
A small studio is probably what a lot of us are fortunate enough to have! That one room in the house you can confiscate for your own space! The tour was fun!
Hullo Amy, I am just amazed at how much space you have for creating your art! You have a true lovely studio space! I know that it is easier to store paper pads on top of one another, but I encourage you to find a way to store them on edge, more upright. It will keep the surfaces less prone to damage from pressure and scratches from pads scrapping across as you drag them in and out. I keep my bigger sheets in cardboard storage boxes inside of the large canvas bags for storing unused and finished art! Itoya canvas portfolio bags are good and I use the cardboard as separators that I get when Blick’s ship me sheets of paper. The Cachet Studio Portfolios are more choices to keep paper and artworks from damage. I believe that you have done the best you can, “use what you got” to quote Lindsay, The Frugal Crafter! I don’t understand why a viewer cannot watch a video because of the background? PAY ATTENTION to what is going on with what the Artist is doing. Oh! I remember the name of the cheaper portfolios they are called “Red Wallet”. Thank you for sharing your work studio. There are several videos on bringing gouache even dried up watercolor paints back for use. Good Luck!
I loved this video. It was like going through a room of treasure. Everywhere you went you find something amazing. Have you ever thought of linking and making a go fund me page for here for your art studio that you want to build?
I didn't, mostly, because I didn't really think anyone would be interested in it? But I'm not always really good at asking for help, so that might have played into my decision... Thank you so much for watching!

An honest look at a working studio. Mine is similar. Beautiful art spaces are just for show but not realistic. Love your channel and honesty.
THAAAAAANK YOU!
What a great tour. My studio is packed as well. Our supplies seem to multiply overnight. Lol.
Right? And yet there is always another supply I want to try right around the corner! :)
Thanks for the tour!
Any time!
Thank you for watching!
ooooh that's a LOT of pencils 😍😍😍
Love your room, thanks for sharing. ❤
You are so welcome!
Yep my room is small too, we do what we can with what space we have. I am just happy to have a space,
Exactly! Same here! Thank you for watching!
I have a Minc I got Years ago ,for xmas form my fella .I use for card making Love your room it is lovely xxxxxHappy Art and craftiingxxxx
Having to store half of my supplies in our living room and our kids playroom I absolutely understand that you need to take advantage of every space you got 😅 I mean yeah it is cluttered but it's full of surprises and fun supplies everywhere you look at 🥰
And the only way to declutter is to give up a bunch of the supplies! No thank you! :) Thank you for taking the time to watch! I appreciate it!
I like the clutter! it's realistic. when you're an artist, you just have so much STUFF on principle, lol.
Right? Thank you for saying that! I felt kind of vulnerable posting this video, in case people would judge me. I do the best I can in the space I have, and I am so grateful to have any space at all to work in. Thank you so much for watching!
As someone with limited space, I feel your pain! But hey as long as you know where things are that's all that matters haha
And in regards to your Himi gouache, Kristy Rice made a video a few weeks ago where she revived hers which I think might be helpful!
Thanks for the video tip! I'll be sure to check it out! I'd love to save it. And thanks for watching!
Take good care of you!
I'll keep trying! Maybe The warm water will help. I was just using room temperature! Thanks for the tip!
One summer it was in a camper by a lake … another seasons of my life
I was in an unfinished basement beside the laundry and under the stairs. :)
Now I’m in a large bedroom with bay window and closet … it has a Murphy bed … and a bathroom attached ( great for clean up ) but I still long for a workspace where I can get messier!
We will make art wherever we are - as long as we have the commodity of a few moments of time :)
That’s what we do!
ignore the clutter freaks... we watch because of your talent and ability to teach.... love you clutter... CLUTTER ON!!
Ha ha! Thank you! I appreciate it! Clutter on!
Cluttered? Looks well organized in the space you have! Thanks for the tour.
Thank you! That actually make sme feel good that you would say that! ANd thank you so much for watching!
Mrs. Furrita or is it Frida? Is absolutely adorable! 🥰🥰🥰
Ms. Furrita! She's a sweetheart!
@@winterwoodsstudio 💜💜💜
I would love for you to do a video on how you bullet journal in regards to art and scheduling! Please think about giving us a video?
That is an excellent idea! Thank you! I definitely will have to do that! I'm adding it to my list of videos to make!
We have the same storage issues! lol How do you like your new digital tablet thing? Although it looks way too big to qualify as a tablet. lol
Sending you more virtual hugs!
i finally got an old cricut 2nd hand and would love to see what you do on yours
There's just a quick show and tell of a few things I've made on it in the past in the video that went up today! I'm going to do a "how to make your own kiss cu and die cut stickers on a Cricut" sometime this summer too! Thank you for watching!
@@winterwoodsstudio looking forward to watching it
A small studio is probably what a lot of us are fortunate enough to have! That one room in the house you can confiscate for your own space! The tour was fun!
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
❤❤❤
Thanks!
