Thank you!
I remember making those without adult supervision many years ago. Kids lived dangerously back then.
+John Ratko You know how it is though, if I don't warn People and kids get hurt then TH-cam will get mad at me and bring down the Banhammer XD
TrollFaceTheMan absolutely.
And we still do :) that's why I'm doing it
I want to do it u hope my mum says yes
Instead of tongs or tweezers, why don't you just use a large, metal slotted spoon?
Haha made these 50 years ago brings back great memories! I like all of your safety tips and the mini-science tutorial in the middle. I see someone else mentioned “faux” is pronounced “foe” not “fox” but I kinda like fox gems. ✌🏼
Years and years ago, my Grandmother had these 3 ft long 1 1/2 ft wide cork boards and on each one, she had made 3D grape bunches using the same method, with green marbles. It was very very cool ! Love your video and the info you gave. Just enough to really explain it without going on....... and on.......... and on like some do !
Thanks, glad you like it :)
You are not a nerd,,, just lots of fun. THANKS!!
These are cool. At 4:38--'Fox' gems? I think you mean 'faux' gems, pronounced 'foe'.

I've done it twice now. Please be extremely careful when shocking the marbles! They may break, even after they've been removed from the water. Inspect each marble. I cover mine with clear nail polish to seal the cracks. Don't use tongs or tweezers! You may drop them while you're transferring them. You don't want to get injured. I use a long handled slotted spoon. It's huge, & much safer than tongs.
If you accidentally bake marbles with a
A what
The suspense 🥴😬
I been making sun catchers out of my gems 💎 I love the crackle look sometimes I’ll put a layer of nail polish on the back of my gemstone to give them more color.
So many fun crafts you can do just got to use your imagination
I love the DnD applications, the shots are stunning too!
+Preston Withun :)
I want to do this so I can lay them on my grandparents graves. They're beautiful ❤️
Thank you, and that is very thoughtful.
Oh my, let your grandpa appreciate the creativity of you
Thank you ,you are the only one that has mentioned safety and danger warning . Great Job ,very much appreciated .
Thank you, glad you liked it :]
I have been watching quite a few marble vs flat / stovetop vs oven, for craft and jewelry but as DM aides that's just genius, the players will love them :) p.s. Thanks for the science lesson included as to why it works.
You are welcome!
Using a yellow or orange version of the flat glass stones would be great swapped outs for ember for KeyForge
There's an idea!
Very interesting, and creative! The fractured clear marbles are my favorite.
+JustAThought Thank you, glad you liked the video :)
You mean flaws
At the beginning of the video i thought the exact same thing as you, what a perfect "imperfect gem" for my D&D game. :-P Now i only wish i could make progressivly less fractured ones to simulate "fixed" gems. Guess I'll just have to make 200 and sort them in more to less fractured ones. :-P
+Johan Lower the heat, the less fractures. So for example at 250f it'll have just a few larger ones in it.
Dumb question, I heard you say it only works on rounded pieces. I wanted to try with sea glass but I can not find anything about it. So safe to assume they would just break? :/
1) this is FANTASTIC I LOVE IT I’ll use it for the Pathfinder game i GM and for cosplay because I, too, am a huge nerd.
2) just a general heads up, faux is pronounced like “foe” not “fox”. I pronounced it like that for years before the bitter truth was broken to me so I’m not judging. I love this content!
Thank you, and I actually do know the proper pronunciation. I have just gotten into such a bad habit of purposefully mispronouncing words that it bleed over into my video by mistake.
This look amazing but when we heat and drop to the water and ithe will be cracked inside don't do this thing with small marble otherwise we drop it. It will crack into pieces
Thought you were gonna say; "Yeah, I know, I'm kind of cool" BECAUSE THOSE ARE COOL AF
Thanks :]
Couldn't you put the marbles in the freezer for like 24 hours then pour boiling water on them?
That is a good question. Theoretical that would make the effect of the shattering work the same.
@@TrollFaceTheMan thanks for the response. I was thinking that might work because of how they say not to pour hot water to defrost the ice on a windshield, because it'll crack.
@@tortillajackson2342, yep absolutely will. Or pouring say hot coffee into a chilled glass.
@@TrollFaceTheMan I'm gonna have to try it, but with the marbles...not a windshield or chilled glass.
@@tortillajackson2342, probably for the best. Let me know how it goes :)
I wonder where I can get a Box to hold them like that.
Can you send me Some colour Full cristel
nerd pwr
Yep
Extremely well-done video! Thank you for speaking clearly, thank you for not having the music volume louder than your voice, and thank you for showing close-ups during and after the process!
No problem I am glad you like it and thanks for dropping a comment.
any idea how they create this effect of non-spherical objects like vases, cups ect. ?
I am not sure actually. To my understanding it is a much more complicated process where hot glass cracks in a cold air environment then is reheated until slightly melted back together. Then slowly cooled to prevent any further fracture or breakage.
I came here to just watch what your doing this looks cool to and amazing so hmmm...Like can we use it for decoration? or use it for anything?
Yep, works great for decorations.
hi, this is really cool!!
Kaili Kim, thank you.
can marbles melt completely if you leave them long enough in the oven?
No they shouldn't if they are glass, as it's melting temperature is 1400c or about 2550f.
Those look awesome! :)
Thank you.
Ahh a reverse prince Ruperts drop. Brilliant idea. They don't crumble during handling now? Definitely going to try this and also gotta say I cracked up when you mentioned using them for props during a D&D game you DM. I was thinking "man this dude is as nerdy as me" then you literally called yourself out as I'm thinking it. It was awesome. Thanks for the video.
That is so cool! I am definitely doing that for my science project!
Be careful, and good luck!
Re: _"...a warning, there is an extremely small chance that the Glass may pop when in contact with the water. Because of this I recommend safety glasses during this step."_
"Recommend" is too weak. The hazard is not "extremely small." The risk is substantial, and *_safety glasses are essential._* You should *_NEVER_* attempt this process without them!
You say that but while testing different Heats, and baths and what I've done since then, I have made about 1,500 of them and still have had no issues.
If not even 1 in 1500 has popped in any violent way so far, so I would say the chances are pretty slim. Not substantial.
Even still, if you wish to recommend stronger wording, then that's fine.
But in the least understand that before I give a lax safety recommendation I do so with stringent testing.
You should be looking at hundreds of other videos on this subject and notice how they don't even recommend them at all.
But still I wish to ask, have you done this before and had stuff pop and wish to present it as anecdotal evidence? I am Open eared.
David Burton hehhehe I’ve never done them with oven mits or anything like that, even as a kid.. I burnt my hands like every time but it was worth it
Going to make some. I've got two bags of marbles and some of those flat gem pieces. Thanks for the tip about plastic coating- will check them first.
Wow that so beautiful thank u 💞💗💖💝❣️♥️💜💙
Glad you liked it.
Fascinating 😅
Beautiful
:)
I want to practise how to become aim shaper in marble
I am not sure what that is?
Hi, do you know if this technique would work using resin spheres ?
No, they would melt and are too pliable under heat.
@@TrollFaceTheMan Many thx
Welcome :]
I’m so glad I found your channel. My son and I are going to have a blast trying all three activities. ❤
Could see this as a way of making cheap, high fantasy currency for LARP.
Different colors mean different coin values?
@@TrollFaceTheMan yeah, kinda like the Rupees in Legend of Zelda
@@TrollFaceTheMan it's a cheap enough process you wouldn't worry about losing coins, and the method is obscure enough to not really worry about folks forging fakes
Definitely could work for it.
Can I put it in the microwave too?
No
Need to do this for my mother. She would love a necklace
RealMrJareBear If you do, remember to sand the top of the Mable with coarse sandpaper before glueing.
Thank you
@@TrollFaceTheMan or what about wire wrapping them
Totally awesome,thank you 👍🏻
Glad you liked it.
This should be filmed in a VERY high speed, to see the cracking. SmarterEveryDay?
Tibor Kovács Wish I had a fast enough Camera to do so. And if they wanted to, then sure. But I doubt that would happen XD
awesome love it
Thanks I appreciate it!
Awesome video
Thank you.
How long do you bake them for
Just until they even out with the oven temperature. Depending on how many you have that could be as 10 or 15 minutes. Probably a half an hour would be a safe bet though
i threw my mrble into fire and flicked it into a 10cm ice block
@TrollFaceTheMan I found your video whilst researching why my very "inexpensive" crackle glass beads felt like plastic . I loved your video , it was very informative and most probably answered my question of how they were able to be made so cheaply . 😊
Glad you liked it, thanks for dropping a comment :)
do you think you could still drill a hole in them to mount them to a pendant?
Or could you drill the hole before putting them through this process?
Drilling a hole in them likely would break them in my belief. They are reasonable strong but something like that will probably compromise their integrity.
Only way I would see likely is if you drill them first, fill the hole with silicone then crack them by first heating them with boiling water then dumping into cold water.
The silicone should hold it together and can take heat of the boiling water. Then the necklace could be attached to/into the silicone plug. Just my best guess.
Beautiful Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Soo cool!!😮
Glad you think so :)
dude.
+frooshante Dude!
Nice simple idea
Not uphill struggle at all
Will try one day
Specimen will tell the story
If I succeeded
Cool, and thank you.
I tried this with the flat marbles and they all broke
That is unfortunate. In what ways did they break?
@@TrollFaceTheMan When I put them from the oven into cold water they just shattered
@@kayemerick9353 that is weird, everyone? What temperature?
Awesome vídeo! Thanks!!
caldeirone No problem, and thank you for watching and commenting.
Wow I bought a bracelet of cracking marbles I thought they were junks and throw them away after the bracelet string rip when my cousin visit I told her a bout it then she ran to the trash can all the way down stairs and dig it out of the-recycle junks and ask me to keep it when I say yes she took it to wash and keep it in her precious box I thought she was crazy now I regret it
It was cheap I bought the bracelet for 1 dolars
I couldn't catch the temp that you listed? Was it 500 degrees?
Thank you.
does putting them into a lower temp oven (255dF) for about an hour still have the same effect?
255f should theoretically be enough to do it too yes. Though higher temperatures tend to make for better results.
We used to do this to our marbles about 60 years ago. We boiled them in water for a few minutes and then put them in cold, ice water to achieve the same results.
Cool to know another method, thanks.
Can you do this in a convention oven? Out oven hasn’t worked for a while and we only have a convention oven at home.
For sure. Just as long as it gets sufficiently hot
I just put them over a candle then rinsed and washed off with a rag
Interesting.
Your very creative
Abby Bronkhorst Thank you.
This helped with cosplay thank youu!
Glad to Hear!
Very nice didn't know you could do this
Thx
Welcome :]
im gonna try this with the resin crystals i made. if i die i die
I am sure resin will just melt/catch fire.
Thank you for this video
Welcome, thank you for your comments.
can we just take the time to say thanks to this guy and share the vid
Well thank you :)
You had my until you said "fox gems". Faux is pronounced the same as "Foe".
Lollll
Yep, realize that now.
How long did he bake them ???
Depends on how much you are cooking. But they just need to stay in until heated through. Half hour max in most cases.
Thank you for sharing 👍💐
Thanks for commenting :)
I think you are an incredible nerd! ❤
Thanks :)
I got these in my garden for some reasonn lol
Interesting.
Does it crack if u drop it?
If you mean break then no, they still are pretty tough. Though repeat dropping on hard surface might cause it to break.
I used to do this in the late 70s.
:)
You are so awesome! Great video!
Thank you.
Good explanation 👏
Thanks!
i had the exact same marbles and they look fantastic
Cool, glad you liked them :)
😊😊😊😊😊😊
You can do the same thing with boiling water
That's what I've heard.
TrollFaceTheMan you just can't boil them to long cuz some will split in half but that could be useful I guess if you wanted to make a ring or attach it to something flat
Sooooooo pretty
Thanks
I don't have an oven.. does boiling water works too?
I have heard if you boil them for about 10min first then add it to ice cold water It works well too, yes.
@@TrollFaceTheMan awesome! Thanks.. I'll give it a try
Good luck, please let me know how it works out :)
B/h
?
Thanks, we are off to make these now :-)
Best of luck!
It went great! We are making pendants. Thanks for the video.
@@vickichow1308, Glad to hear!
Those look like infinity stones
If you do this to clear gems and put an image behind it how does it look?
I am not sure I never tried to be honest. I could check if you want?
Shared to FB!
Thanks I appreciate it.
Think I did somthing like this once with a butane torch but I can't remember what I was actually trying to do lol
I did want to see what would happen if I heated it with a torch and dropped it in water but I didn't have time to do so.
TrollFaceTheMan I think one of mine ended up breaking a little but I was cooling them with a spray bottle so they weren't cooling evenly
Could this be used with odd shaped sea glass?
If not round it likely will just shatter instead.
