Made the mistake of powder coating the hood springs when I did the update on my 57 Chevy. Result is they no longer hold up the hood. Ran into your channel while searching for a method of expanding the new springs since they are VERY stiff. Found the washer method also so that will be my first attempt since it doesn't require making a new tool. Thanks for all the great input. Love the "Can-do" attitude!! 👍👍🛠⚙️🗜✌️🔩😉
My lower hood spring mounts were cut off with the discarded part of the car. My first guess left the springs too weak and wouldn’t hold the hood up, so I move the lower mounts another inch lower and that seems to have fixed it. You probably don’t want to do that on your 57. That’s a beautiful car by the way.
@@carcobbler Thank you Al. No I just replaced the springs with new ones the same length but proper tension. Used the "washer" method to extend them for installation. All good!! Lesson learned: "don't powder coat your hood springs"!!! I'm guessing, ANY springs.
I have a 47 fleetline n Im making a tool just like the one shown but I’m stuck on the top? Can u please show me exactly or explain to me how to make the piece that swivels I have a few classics n this tool is really comes in handy thank you
Howdy, I think this tool is only worth it if you do a lot of on and off or have several cars. I could make you one in May (I’m out of the country for work until then) . I live in Calgary, if we are neighbors you could just borrow it :)

Yeah, the swivel was the tricky part. I’m not home presently but if you give me an email address I can make a bit of a drawing for you.
