This thing is easily the standout at Hershey for me. I love intense launches and that snake dive looks incredible. I don’t think the restraints are that bad, but they do come down hard towards the end of the ride, but because it’s short it’s not so bad.
Storm runner kinda gives me full throttle vibes. Great launch and great elements but it feels like it ends too soon. That snake dive is still one of my favorite elements on any coaster though
Yeah, Stormy looks epic. It would probably be better with two overbanks after the top hat but since that doesn't exist, we'll just take this ride and plop it in Europe. (Inspired after Coaster Studios Storm Runer Parody)
This is a perfect coaster in my opinion. The flow from element to element is so smooth and each moment is quality. The only thing that stops it from being my favorite in the park is the shorter length. I was very pleasantly surprised when I rode it for the first time because no one talks about it. Definitely makes my top 5 favorite coasters for sure
So glad to have this coaster at my home park! I am, in general, a front row rider on roller coasters, and this may be one of my all-time favorite front row rides. Nothing like taking that launch and going over the drop with no one in front of you!
I can forgive the short length for the fact it was first hydraulic launch to feature inversions. Also if you ride the back side of Hershey tower of the Hershey Triple Tower, and get lucky, you can get a really amazing view of Storm Runner going through the roll and dive.
It’s been my number one coaster at Hershey for years, even after Skyrush and Candy were built it still remains my number one. More thrilling than Candy and less painful than thigh crush. Best ride in the park.
I am going to say this but those “soft straps” aren’t even soft at all and they are super uncomfortable. I’m a skinny guy and when that restraint gets pushed further down on me during the ride, once we hit the brakes that restraint is down so hard on my shoulders it literally hurts, I’ve never ridden this ride with the older restraints but I think either those or a lap bar would be better.
I think this and Fahrenheit would benefit with the lap bars found on Coaster Through The Clouds, same seating but retrofitted with lap bars. Fingers crossed Hershey would actually do this.
I actually prefer this coaster to Skyrush. It's just so unique and awesome, and I'm a huge launch junkie. It's too bad Intamin never built any other Accelerators like this.
I've been on every coaster except Sky Rush and I'm doing that this summer definitely, can't wait. The Storm Runner is the ultimate imo so far. I wish it were 15 seconds longer. Did the Storm Runner have a faster launch speed when it first came out? I thought it was 0-78, or 0-80 yrs ago and they slowed it down to 78, but I could be wrong.
Love this ride!! I have it is second behind skyRush but there are days I feel like StormRunner is my favorite of all the coasters there. Great, fun ride.
Hersheypark is my former home park before moving to Florida. And Storm Runner was my first roller coaster at Hersheypark. It is always a must do when I’m fine myself in Chocolatetown. Storm runner is in my top three. Skyrush, Great Bear, and Storm Runner is my top three.
I just rode it for the first time yesterday and it is definitely my favorite ride I have ever been on! It's a beautiful ride and it's extremely smooth!
Great review! I mostly agree with everything. My only complaints are the ride is over before I can catch my breath from the launch so that puts it as my #4 at Hersheypark just for that reason. The other thing is for me the shoulder restraints are super uncomfortable for me as a tall person-they dig into my shoulders. I’d love to see Stormy get Velocicoaster restraints!
Storm Runner is SOOOOO much better than Skyrush! Maybe my favorite launch coaster, and I live near Kingda Ka (so ride it often) and have been on Top Thrill Dragster. But only ever grayed out on I-305. As far as Hershey is concerned, Storm Runner is perfection. Can't wait to get on Candemonium!
Only an 8.5? I would have predicted you to say a 9 or 9.5. Also, what is the smoothness in your opinion? My last few rides were noticably a bit rattlely.
Supermajority escape at movie world is super unique in that it has a pre show element, making it 2 minutes of fun! Also super intense and the airtime hurts with the restraints
They named another element after a cobra? That’s really all they could think of? Come on, there’s other snakes out there, why not give it a name like…Viper? No wait… (after naming several different snakes) I got it! We’ll call it the Mole Snake Loop! Terrifying, huh?
Been waiting for this review for a while. I haven’t been to the park yet, but this looks like the best ride there. I am not excited for Skyrush because of how awful I’ve heard the restraints are, and I am a huge fan of launch coasters
Skyrush is so controversial in the enthusiast world. Personally I think it's WAY too rough for a steel coaster. I look for that smooth flying feeling in steel coasters, but this ones on the verge of a wooden coaster to me.
Skyrush is crazy fun 2.... Looks can be deceiving cuz every time I ride Skyrush it feels like the thing is literally trying to kill me and I love that feeling and the restraints are part of the excitement they never hurt me once
1= Storm Runner 2= Skyrush 3= Candy Monium 4= Great Bear 5= Fahrenheit ..... Crazy to think i rode each one the first year they were open. 4 of my top 5 i rode with no lines a few times last month
the restraints on this and Fahrenheit are way shorter and tighter than the ones on Maverick and Intimidator 305. I'm 5'10" and my shoulders were pressed up against the top of the straps. also the seat belts on this and Fahrenheit are really short. but then on skyrush the lapbar and belt are big and roomy. The restraints are very inconsistent at Hershey
Great night ride, the drop into darkness being so much longer than the rise up the spike is so whack. However Ka does seem like a complete experience, in that it leaves me wanting nothing else but another front row lap.
Of all the Intamin Accelerator coasters I've ridden, this one is my favorite mainly because it's not a one or two trick pony. Take it over Dragster and Ka anyday.
*Alright riders! Sit upright and keep your head back at all times! And keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times! NOW GET READY, HERE WE GO* (also, the vid was posted 1 year ago today lmao)
Haven’t rode this because it’s 3 hours away and I’ve been to Hershey once but when in the park the Cobra Loop looks like an un smoothened custom inversion from planet coaster it looks so janky and deformed
In my opinion Storm runner and CandyMonium are the most rewritable roller coasters in Hersheypark. they are literally my number one and number two in that order. in my opinion Hersheypark needs to work with intamin one more time basically they need to make longer beast mode giga version of storm runner. 90 mph heck I would try to make the ride longer than like three minutes at length. it would be tornado theme.
I have to disagree with you. I like the harder ones better because the soft ones I think they’re made of nylon which I don’t like but they’re too bulky especially when they go over your head.
I just wish it was longer. It feels like they only wanted new elements, and ran out of ideas. Hersheypark still needs another launch, something more like maverick, or velocicoaster. Launches are becoming a staple in the industry and having one that last less then a minute stinks.
It's a really fun coaster and every time I ride it, I have to say "Now get ready, Here we go" after seeing the Parody many times. Also, Skyrush is uncomfortable and overrated, Lightning Racer is the best ride in the park
Stormrunner is a stranger ride at HersheyPark because it has a lot of force pushed onto you when bottoming out after each element. After the top hat you can feel the train sort of shake and feel the rumble, and then after the cobra loop you really feel that rumble when flying up into the flying snake dive. On the top hat the back row gets great ejector on the way down, and feels like you won’t make it through any other element. In the front row you get thrown a bit when going up the top hat, and when you reach the top of the flying snake dive. Great coaster. 9/10.
Another thing that makes this ride so special, is the fact you can see every element of this ride just from the path ways.
Facts!
This thing is easily the standout at Hershey for me. I love intense launches and that snake dive looks incredible. I don’t think the restraints are that bad, but they do come down hard towards the end of the ride, but because it’s short it’s not so bad.

Storm Runner is so frigging underrated!!! Not the fastest launch by any means, but it's super intense and fun.
It’s been my number one coaster at Hershey for years, even after Skyrush and Candy were built it still remains my number one. More thrilling than Candy and less painful than thigh crush. Best ride in the park.
My current unicorn coaster. 3 trips to Hershey and this is the last ride I’ve yet to grab. Glad to keep trying cause well, Skyrush
Storm Runner is solidly in my top 10! It's above rides like Phantoms Revenge, Outlaw Run, and Mystic Timbers. Yes, I love it that much
I am going to say this but those “soft straps” aren’t even soft at all and they are super uncomfortable. Love this thing. I very much love skyrush and Candymonium but dare I say storm runner is my #1
Storm runner is like a baby kingda ka. Especially if you’ve never been on a launch coaster, it’s sick! Great video
That first part of your comment is ironic since Storm Runner is actually OLDER than Kingda Ka!🤣
@@skyguyismyguyr12turn yeah you’re right, but stormrunner doesn’t send you “128 miles per hour up 456 feet” 😆
If I had to describe this ride, I’d call it a far more intense version of the second half of Velocicoaster. Easily my favorite launch out there
I've been on every coaster except Sky Rush and I'm doing that this summer definitely, can't wait. The Storm Runner is the ultimate imo so far. I wish it were 15 seconds longer. Such an underrated launch coaster. But it’s so unique and so fun to ride.
Agreed!
That snake dive is one of the most chaotic elements ever, the train trying to fling you in every direction as you spin.
Like Vortex (R.I.P.), it's one of the most visually appealing roller coasters I've seen.

Imagine the flying snake dive spinning 😅
I can see this being one of my top-ranked roller coasters when I ride it
Storm runner looks like it's a ton of fun! I like how each of the elements look like they are profiled super weird, but it goes through them smoothly.
This is a fun and unique ride. im surprised they havent built more like it.

Anyone notice how Intamin Accelerator track kinda looks like it is connected by LEGO Tiles?
It looks really good
This is also a great coaster to hit at the end of the day, and see the sun set at the crest of the first hill.
