I have to add that her advice was interesting for me and reinforced what I have been noticing. My best colors have changed slightly as I've gotten older. Pastels are not great for me anymore. I think she made good points. I agree that we have to rejoice that we are still living and not worry too much about this stuff every day--maybe just for those special occasions? Great outlook!

I am 70. Brunette with wonderful silver highlights! Brown vibrant eyes and can wear almost everything well at 5’8. I’m well known for color, color fills me and makes me happy. Black and whites yes, but rarely for me in the summer.. I’ve never dressed for anyone else but myself. And, question, why do my eyes matter in this? Why can’t we wear what makes us feel good? At this age, who cares what others think if it feels good. I love PINK, take it away from me in any shade and I would be miserable. I came upon this site in my feed and I do not agree. Wear what makes you happy!!!

I think everyone can elevate their style, I think most people of a certain age know some of the things that physically work better than others. I also think it is a fun time of life to indulge in things that you just LIKE. As in the quote: "When I am an old woman I will wear purple..." An old person may decide to wear purple whether it suits them or not, and that is everyone's right. However, sometimes you do want to appear as your "elevated" self which takes into account your physical conditions such as your line and your best colors.

You should avoid all the colors which are not right for your color type. Someone looks terrible in red, another one looks great. Many people look terrible in black (and they still wear it because it's popular) and there are some who look wonderful even in black. So you can't say to everyone to avoid some colors because they would look old. Someone would, but someone would look good in them.

I am a red head who am now white haired. My face is white. I saw a video of myself wearing baby blue - which I love! But I looked completely washed out! I also love white - same thing. The colors you mention, like navy blue, emerald green are too strong. I can wear a scarf with terra Cora, rusty red, which helps.

I’m not quite 60 yet but I def agree. From hair to makeup to clothing. I def don’t want any more of the fade out as everything is fading on me. My hair, brows, skin so I def don’t need to add any more of that with blah clothing. Lol. The only “tan” things I have are a couple of khaki pants. Lol. You didn't pay attention to the video. Sometimes the white of the eyes get yellow with age, and such a person might not want to wear colors that emphasize the yellow in the eyes. Just like, for example, it's generally a bad idea to wear lipstick colors that emphasize yellow teeth.

Same here. The book, 'Colour Me Beautiful', from way back, makes a lot of sense. I share the same skin tones as you, and its suggestions still work perfectly for me. It is not just the colours themselves, but specific shades of the chosen colours. I never wear orangy red,, lime green, black or yellow. I like warm camel, royal blue, tan, warm tuquoise. I could wear primrose yellow, I love spring flowers, but yellow isn't normally a colour I would choose to wear. I love pinks, mauves.and a warm grey. And, yes, I have blue eyes, and wear colours that enhanse them, because they are still my best feature.

Many years ago, when my older sister was getting married, she decided to have the ‘colors’ of the two bridesmaids (my younger sister and myself) and the maid of honor done to help choose a color for us all to wear. The bride ended up being autumn, my younger sister was spring, the maid of honor was summer, and I was a winter. Long before that I was always drawn to the jewel tones. Trying to find a red with blue undertones instead of the orange undertones has always been a difficult thing. Trying to find clothes in the tones during early spring into into the summer months is also very difficult.

Fading hair color. Fading skin. I have to have enough pop. I think it makes me look more vibrant and alive. I def feel more alive that way. So hah. It’s burgundy hair color. Enhanced brows and a bit of bronzer. Some snappy clothing pop item and I’m all set. Oh and right. A bit of tint on the lips and shimmer around the eyes. I also am a big fan of the color correcting face tints/primers. I guess the idea for me is to glow, not fade away into dull, washed out beige land.

    • @EleganceAt60
      @EleganceAt60  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

For those with neutral skin tones, you have the advantage of wearing a wide range of colors and metals. Both silver and gold jewelry can complement your look, and you can experiment with various hues without being confined to warm or cool tones. Neutral skin tones often work well with both bright and muted colors, offering flexibility in your wardrobe choices.
However, be cautious with colors that are too harsh or high-contrast, as they can sometimes overwhelm a neutral skin tone. Softer, balanced colors often create a more harmonious look. Additionally, while neutral tones can handle a broad spectrum, it’s wise to test very warm or cool colors to see how they align with your personal style. Hope this helps!☺️

My hair colour was darkest brown from my Italian father, but I am quite pale skinned, so have gone light brown. It took me a few years to work things out. My cousin had the same colour hair but olive skin and has gone lighter too. She has dyed it a warmer shade of lighter brown, as her skintone is warmer than me. Going lighter means less dyeing less often and you can get some spray on colour for the roots between treatments these days too. I suggest you try different shades of lighter brown to see which works well against your skin and eyes. Then make the move to softer colours, either warm or cooler shades, depending on which way you go with your hair colour. Hope that helps!

Most basic point - skin tones re either warm or cool undertone. Camel will not suit cool tone skin. Jewel colours will not suit warm skin tone.
Second - eye and hair colour create a contrast with skin colour. High contrast means you can wear more contrasting values, a dark and a light value together. Or if you have coloured eyes, like blue or green and coloured hair like red, strawberry blond you can mix more colours in your clothing.
It would be better to start with the qualities of skin, eye, hair colour than all the colours and then imply you can wear them.
There are far better, more comprehensive and accurate videos on colour than this one.

  • @silverhausen

There are very few rules that apply to everyone. However, your color game becomes more important as you age. My personal favorite is when people allow their hair to be natural because most dyed hair is the wrong color for the skin. Even if dyed hair color starts on day one as correct for your skin it quickly becomes brassy,. Dyeing it more often is very bad for you and your hair. You and your hair will be much healthier un-dyed. You might have to cover dyed hair to figure out what your best colors are. Most people of a certain age will already have items of clothing they know look good on them. If a person collects photos of themselves in those best outfits it will probably be apparent what their color type is (cool or warm, contrasting or not). As you age and your natural hair color and skin changes you will use those colors differently. You can look in the mirror and tell when a color that was good is now doing nothing for you. You can still use that color it in small amounts, but not in large swaths. Your style type also becomes more important as you age, and it will affect how you use your best colors. If your style is dramatic you will use color differently than a classic and so on.

I am 70 and gone from darkest brown to light brown, would not dream of going grey. My eyes have gone from darkest olive to mid green, so I took my hair lighter too, as some grey came in. I have always had pale ivory, slightly warm tone skin and the dark hair contrast looked too stark with ageing. I feel everything is balanced out again now though. I do wear softer colours, slightly warm, greens and apricots, some reds and turquoise, never black or stark white any more, except for a funeral, with ivory underneath, and camel makes my skintone look washed out completely.

Majority of the models have grey hair so the recommended colours go with the grey/white hair. Actually it's the hair that is noticeable. Not all of us embrace grey hair, mine is mostly still my original colour so I'm staying dark haired for as long as I can (I use henna on the grey bits, easy to use, no harsh chemicals, can mix as much as needed). I look awful in jewel tones and jet blacks. Indigo is my best "black". Those huge glasses are flashbacks to the "80's. Older women look like elves in them, cute but still elves.

Most of these color suggestions have worked really well for my clients, but of course, we’re all different, and what works for one person might not work for another. I’ve tried to keep the video under 10 minutes for convenience, so it’s more of a general guide to get started. @@mt.shasta6097That's wrong. Redheads, natural redheads, always have a warm or neutral/warm skintone. Paleness has nothing to do with it except to make the warmth very subtle.

Yes, natural redheads always lean toward a warm tone skin. Many redheads think that pink cheeks, due to the transparency of their skin, means that they're cool, but that has nothing to do with whether their skin has a blue or a golden undertone. You probably already know, but cool tone skins have a blue undertone but warm tone skins have a golden undertone, no matter how subtle. At most, a natural redhead will be neutral/warm, but will never have a blue undertone.
