Long story short for the ADHD people. A mod was simping over an osrs streamer so to show his love to her he made the duck npc as a tribute to her. Players were mad because jagex said no changes would be made to the game without a poll. 1. This was never polled, 2. nobody wanted this, 3. It helped convey the message that if you were a streamer then jagex would do anything for you. Just made the company look bad from every angle when they added this
the only real issue out of those three is the streamer favoritism and the fear that it could get out of hand. The other two are just speds being speds.
I always liked the old death mechanic, simply because you could loot so much wealth. Picking up a black cav worth 1m back in 2006 was an incredible rush

They could simply make it so that you donate "bonds" to the well. When you sacrifice enough/ the equivalent of gp for a bond. That way they use the bond loophole for the well too !
I've never let someone in fally bank clean a UNID Ranarr to them sell them 100 UNID Guams. I would never do such a horrible thing. Especially not as a 13 year old boy.
bruh, unidentified herbs were very easy to identify. You just take one of each that you have out of the bank in the order they're in the bank, identify the ones you can. Put the identified herb in front of the unidentified ones. When you wanted a specific unid, you just take one noted unid and the rest of your invy is filled. So when they trade you, only those with the exact same unid would complete the trade. Sounds complicated but once you understand the logic, it was a piece of cake. It made herbs worth so much because people had no idea what they were doing.
yeah, I remember a guy in like 2006 or 2005 sitting in the bank, being murdered by gnats afk, he died and dropped a ton of good items including his cash stack. It was insane, everyone was chimping out over what they got off the guy.
I was doing the unid merch in 2006-7...I learnt it from somebody who'd been doing for a year prior to telling me. The best method was to find someone who'd been collecting from Misc for a while, buy the Guam, Mar, Tar and Har for like 3-500gp each then spend a few hours auto typing (this was the norm back then in W2) buying 8-9+ stacks 1-1.1k each, a smart player would buy when they're somewhat equal stacks. Then you used this magical, mythical thing we used to refer to as "the forums" to sell 20-30k stacks where you've paid an average if like 800gp each for 1.7-2.2k each. I made 32M in one day back in 2007 doing this. (I was taught this buy a guy who had 100 sets of Gilded in 2006 (500M+))
Man I played rs2 back in the day as a kid and I've played osrs since launch off and on and I always thought items dropped on death were visible to other players the whole time. Didn't find out your dropped stuff is safe till about a 3 weeks ago
Bring back the well of goodwill. Jagex doesn't need to donate, the players can donate GP and get rewarded with a cosmetic or something. This way Jagex is safe legally and we still get out item sink we desperately need.

This led many players buying unids to fill up their inventory with ONLY the expensive ones, and any player trying to legitimately sell their herbs having a hard time. Many buyers would also resort to "buying all high level unids" eventually too
If they brought back the well of good will but remove any connection to real world money, wouldn't that work? Have it as a gp only way to get certain emotes and fashionscape and have weekly leaderboard to show who gave the most

Thematically, Varlamore seems to have ties to Egypt/Persia/Middle East, meaning he likely could still be from Zeah. Edit- But also Rome. It's kinda a hodge-podge. Pretty sure it's gonna be lit.
Old death mechanics were way better. Now we got gravestones, which just copied off EOC - scape from when they removed free trade. Babyscape if you ask me

You just got a unidentified potion whenever you mixed a identified herb with a vial of water back then . which is still possible to this day. to find and actually reliably make something simple like a anti poison you did have to use several unicorn horns on the unidentified potions you ordered specifically and logged in like a actual book. On your desk or nearby.
1:58 there was a very easy way of knowing what each herb was. Have at least 2 of each stack, identify 1 of each and keep note of what herb was what. Put them in order of level in your bank for reference. Also when buying them, get out a single noted herb (say ranarr) then fill your inventory with junk, if the person trading you wasn't offering a ranarr (either unknowingly or likely scamming) then the trade would automatically decline upon trying to accept.
I wouldn't say RNGsus should've played a big role in the lore if I understand it correctly. Since Charlie Brown was the only believer I think he was just a cult leader without any members and a made up belief

What if instead of the well they started using a bond time item. For example all goblins will drop a "donation bond". For each of these that are sold/bought on GE and then redeemed they will donate X amount of dollars. Would that be a legal work around?

I used to scam unids id take 1 of ea and clean it to know which one was best and skimp tht pile and sell the valuable ones separately for like 3x the price
fun fact: when osrs first came out there were grimy herbs but people were very against updates so the community convinced them to change it back to unids on the first update
there was also a time where godwars kc stayed when leaving the dungeon and wouldnt be consumed when entering a door, they did this because of bad servers

honestly well of good will in my opinion could be added quite easily, many players of much excess wealth, make x item x amount of pts, these pts are tracked on a leaderboard, its just to flex, while taking gold/items out of the game...I personally dont see a problem with this, input from others?
i miss the old runescape death mechanics... it was so fun luring alching bots out of the pest control bank and waiting for a dangerous random event to slowly kill them.

But okay, maybe you like risking a 100 Mil every time you fight a boss that only drops like 100K value items most of the time and you're gonna have to fight that boss hundreds of times for the real drops, and you're pretty much guaranteed to die at least a few times out of several hundred. Especially to all the newer bosses with a million mechanics you need to learn/memorize first. But I think it's a terrible idea for a game like RS where everything takes forever to get. I don't see how not risking wasting a ton of time makes something boring.

iirc grimy herbs were still colored like their herb (at least in RS2?) so you could definitely tell which one was which but I was like 10 so maybe I am misremembering.

They removed them because bots became advanced enough to avoid the dangerous events. So they were just a hindrance on real players at that point.

I definitely think gravestones need a rework. Dying in OSRS is currently more of an inconvenience than a punishment.

What if instead of the well they started using a bond time item. For example all goblins will drop a "donation bond". For each of these that are sold/bought on GE and then redeemed they will donate X amount of dollars. Would that be a legal work around?
They could probably donate $1 to charity for every bond or bond value equivalent added to the well. Wouldn’t even need to add a new bond item.

Couldn't Jagex just commit to a certain percentage of the total donations for the well of good fortune that way the players determine the value same as bonds... I came up with that 5 seconds after hearing the excuse to make money on bonds but not give money away to charity
I used to scam unids id take 1 of ea and clean it to know which one was best and skimp tht pile and sell the valuable ones separately for like 3x the price
fun fact: when osrs first came out there were grimy herbs but people were very against updates so the community convinced them to change it back to unids on the first update
there was also a time where godwars kc stayed when leaving the dungeon and wouldnt be consumed when entering a door, they did this because of bad servers

Anyone remember camping rex at DKS with the old grave system, with Slayer dart/Guthans. You could stay infinitely, until those level 126’s run in and get prime on you! Guthans spear was 3-4M back then. Good times.
honestly well of good will in my opinion could be added quite easily, many players of much excess wealth, make x item x amount of pts, these pts are tracked on a leaderboard, its just to flex, while taking gold/items out of the game...I personally dont see a problem with this, input from others?

But okay, maybe you like risking a 100 Mil
every time you fight a boss that only drops like 100K value items most of the time and you're gonna have to fight that boss hundreds of times for the real drops, and you're pretty much guaranteed to die at least a few times out of several hundred. Especially to all the newer bosses with a million mechanics you need to learn/memorize first.
But I think it's a terrible idea for a game like RS where everything takes forever to get.
I don't see how not risking wasting a ton of time makes something boring.

iirc grimy herbs were still colored like their herb (at least in RS2?) so you could definitely tell which one was which but I was like 10 so maybe I am misremembering.
Yup they still had their unique colors, but personally even today I have no clue what an herb is until I see the name haha
