    I remember fighting 2 stacks led by Grimgor early on with nothing but bulls, gnoblars, and sabertusks at my disposal. I tried the battle several times, but every time I lost due to Grimgor’s routing infantry coming back.
    The only reason I won was because I eventually learned to use my sabertusks to pursue every unit that routed till they were shredded or completely off the battlefield. Since then, they’ve been a staple in almost every army I build.

      I find the ogres are particularly plagued by being able to defeat Grimgor's army a lot better than Grimgor himself but if he's not unbreakable yet, that's enough.

      @@OffToBattle I find it hard to get a game of ogres to the late stage, the faction contracts mechanic is basically unusable. And the high tier being linked to camps and not settlements makes it hard to build to it in the first place. I find myself racing grimgor. If he gets to a certain point his army is basically all black orcs. Its fricken ridiculous. I dont know if its the waaaagh mechanic itself, or if its just grimgor, but he ends up with hoards of beefy armies.

      @@Justowner Having played Grimgor post-Grim the Paunch, it's both combined, Grimgor's Waagh army has a chance of getting black orcs in it. It does get ridiculous with him. I'm doing my best to craft campaign army composition/ campaign advice but Grimgor is rough however you slice it, he plagues everyone even remotely trying to fight in that region.

      @@OffToBattle Is there a particular way to play early game you recommend? Like where to build your first camp? Which direction to try expanding into first?

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Justowner I can't continue it for real for Patch 5.1, but after much frustration with Grimgor and more to the point Tamurkhan, as present in Patch 5.0, Ogres are just muuuuch better at fighting anything with a lot of massed infantry, even Vampire Counts. So, Ghorst, Jianshi Rebels.. in general going into Cathay and just pounding stuff is preferable. This requires learning to peace out your early Dwarf and Ogre opponents and commit to another direction. Ghorst and Ku'gath are acceptable since Ku'gath's isles are so $$$ worth it to you, but basically, long haul, Cathay doesn't necessarily hate Grimgor - Grimgor and Chaos Dwarfs hate each other for sure. So, befriending the latter can help make Grimgor someone else's problem. And.. this only works for so long if he's rampaging, but buying him out with a settlement trade and even allying with him can give you space to breathe. Tamurkhan usually takes issue with you eventually though. I enjoyed my experiment rampaging into Cathay, though I'd have to fight Skaven eventually that way.

    These are really good with Stalk, since they are so darn fast you can sneak them to rear easily, munching down on enemy artillery and range units. Combine with Ogres own artillery being very good but shorter range, it means you can have firepower superiority.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tried that against Tretch recently, he had a decent amount of stuff (since I have all the dlc's including Ikit so, Ratling Guns..) and three artillery pieces, I had only the one Sabretusk and four Gnoblar Trappers to work on things. Trappers have stalk but compared to the kitties they're really slow. The job got done and I won - despite it being yet another battle where Leadbelchers get interfered with a lot and prevented from doing as much damage as I want them to - but yeah, the people saying "bring two units" have a point. Two units in an army with a Hunter and you have a lot covered.

      @OffToBattle  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I'm most of the way through a Greasus script, I was getting more combat data to try and answer questions people don't usually answer, like.. is he actually on a chariot? All indications are NO. He's a legged lord with extra ste-- I mean wheels. I understand a lot of the disdain, but most lords and heroes who try to go mano a mano with him end up regretting it. Just need an answer for when they sensibly run away.

    Man, one thing I've noticed about the Ogres is their tech tree does not buff units anywhere near to the degree a lot of other armies do. Here's hoping there's a rework to that with the new DLC.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's hit and miss for that - I just published the Gorgers video and they get a giant +20% Weapon Damage boost from the tech tree. That's one of the eye-poppers of the tree.

    They're effectively fast early game cavalry. You get them earlier and move faster than gorgers. They are also really good at tackling other warbeasts like warhounds, they'll easily smash them in melee and are just as quick as them. They are your best fast attack choice.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very much in agreement, they seemed quite strong against warhounds in testing. Kitties beating doggos here.

      It's not as big of an issue for a unit that you only really want to send into easily winnable fights whenever possible anyway. Rampaging during a melee with a unit of crossbows or a war machine is only rarely problematic.

    These guys are phenomenal at their job- great for disrupting backlines, shutting down ranged units, pursuing routing units and occasionally being the hammer. They also counter other disrupters relatively well due to their high hit points and stats. They essentially play the role of light cavalry for Ogres and do it very well. I could name a TON of factions who would love to have them, even with all of their faults, i.e. imagine Dwarfs with this unit on the roster?! They would literally eat Skaven gun lines for lunch

    If you have a hunter, a couple of them are always useful.
    But mostly i see them as a "necessary evil" since they are your best unit to chase routing enemies and charge up your army abilities.

      Ahhh. They are good at it and help with the role, but the enemy still needs to be running eligible troops.

    These things are pretty good, yes, but they have a weakness worth considering. Yes, they're large, so they avoid anti-infantry, but other faction's doggos being smaller is actually an advantage. I find I tend to use spears or whatnot to defend my backline against cavalry. Against regular doggos, this is actually sub optimal. These are going to take more damage against those backline protectors than regular doggos would (so if fighting them, it is good to keep this in mind). You definitely want to keep them away from anti-large cavalry too (Ogres hate Bretonnia, eh?). Point is, Ogres only have large fast units. I suppose they're just mostly large in general, of course. It's an interesting situation.
    After all, if you're building an army to kill Ogres... anti-large is the name of the game. Just as much of it as you can, and even against some of their smaller seeming units, it works well. I mean, Gnoblars are okay, but they're also not a huge threat against even most anti-large units.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Excellent points, and I've mentioned the lack of being large in any video I do on warhounds and the like. Basically means the kitties are a lot better at fighting hound units than fighting bog standard spearmen. Ogre Charge isn't exactly bad at dealing with spearmen, buuut that's on your "slower" Speed 54 units, not your kitties. Just have to work around it...

    While I found these cats to be good at attacking backline units along with chasing off routing units, using them for the latter also makes them exceptionally good for filling up your army abilities for dismember for slowing, butcher for healing, etc. Also curious when you may be making a video for mournfangs or crushers?
