It's just noticing that the clouds travel in an arc, And spells shoot where the camera is facing so I tried free aiming poison cloud. If the cloud lands near enemies they'll often investigate an end up walking right into it @@sandro5597

But then after taking some damage he walked back to the centre of the arena, and he just stood there and didn’t even move, I thought he would attack me if I went close to him so I got ready to try again after the poison wore off, but he kept standing still, so I used poison again until he died. I think I broke his AI by accident

If you're having trouble with this method do not attempt to poison him while he is near the rail simply lure him on to the side of the rail with the pillar then run to the side of the rail with the steps now stand as close to the fog wall as you possibly can in the highest corner and simply wait for the sender beast to return to the center of the room once he does that you can sneak up behind him target him and poison him from behind and he will not move just like the monsters do in Eldon ring
Worked first try first playthrough, on NG+ took about five tries to get him in the corner. I did the regular way with another character which was faster but this was definitely easier!
Another very simple technique is to just run around the pillar up the stairs and into the corner Wait for him to get tired and return to the middle of the room sneak up and backstab him then run around the pillar return to the corner Wait for him to get tired and backstab him etc etc
If you're good with a bow however the technique of running around the pillar and back to the stairs again is perfect for hitting him with arrows run around the pillar he will run around the pillar fire off a shot run around the stairs he will run around the stairs fire off a shot Rinse and repeat If you do this with poison arrows it will kill him pretty quickly

I must have caused the game to bug out or something cause when I tried this trick the boss just stood in the middle of the room like I wasn't there anymore 😅😅😅
