    That's a torn Achilles for sure! My prayers go out with him and his career! Bright side he is only 21 years old and he is in a top program school that has the best medical staff. Keep your head up bro, I torn both of mine. Left one in 2014 and right one 2021 and still recovering. Mr. Moore stack up on protein throughout your recovery, your calf muscle and Achilles will thank you.

      Actually It’s not that painful. I tore mine completely playing pickup ball and was more in shock and confused what happened. I thought someone kicked me, the sound was like bouncing the ball off the ground. Anyway I figured out what it was when giving a signal to the leg realizing it wasn’t working properly. Next thing I did was get a drink of water and drove myself to the ER. Thankfully it wasn’t my driving leg. Had surgery shortly there after, the most painful part was post surgery when the medicine was wearing off.

      Practice the footwork (split feet or negative step). And DON'T let the heel of the back foot get anywhere close to touching the floor. You should be bouncing off the ball of your foot.
      Moore, KD, Dwight Powell & most who get injured this way have their heel almost touch the floor.
      Pogo hops is a good drill as well, to practice springing off the ball of your foot.

    As someone who has suffered this, it amazes me that players aren’t made more aware of the cause or at least the point of danger. It’s when the knee goes past the toes at any angle it’s then the Achilles is most vulnerable. Look at any snap you will see the knee is always past the toes. I’m talking from experience. It’s a horrible injury trust me.

    • @pyrophoria2206
      @pyrophoria2206 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The knee goes "past the toes" in normal running motion. It's clear that extreme forward flexion of the ankle is where these injuries happen, but to say that one should avoid letting the knee past the toes it foolish.
      Watch footage of someone running in slow motion. The knee comes well past the toes on every stride. There's nothing unsafe about that - the angle needs to be far more extreme.

      There are ways to decrease that likelihood of injury and strengthen the tendon within those positions in basketball. PJF performance has some good videos on it. It's just that the NBA season is nonstop, and your body is basically in constant overtraining mode.

      No, I tore my Achilles after stretching for 20 minutes and feeling good. It happens from a cumulation of things, but the most common is weak toes and calves. Also, fatigue and overuse lead to overcompensation and misalignment of the foot. You want strong feet and calves so when you get tired you can properly transfer energy throughout the foot evenly.

      We are on about the same time frame. I ruptured little over 2 weeks ago and had surgery little over a week ago. I also had it on my other foot in 2020. Its the worst to go through but you have to trust the process. I think you’ll have really limited mobility due to the scar tissue and that the collagen in the tendon would be replaced with a harder substance since it doesn’t want to tear again. You can regain some mobility to an extent with physical therapy but you won’t get the same range of motion as before.

    I tore the inner muscle from the Achilles. OMG did that hurt. I could actually hear it. Sounded like a .22 rifle. Pow! And then I dropped to the ground looking to see who shot me. I can feel the scar tissue through the skin still.

      Yeah…my nephew popped his walking up some stairs. Crazy. He also said it hurt like hell. Guess it depends on what tendon tears-as far as the pain, some say it doesn’t hurt that much. Guess you and my nephew were the unlucky ones. He now is in much better shape as he does not want a repeat! Fractured sternum?? Now that’s freaky-the only fractured sternums I knew as a nurse was after cpr. Hope both are well healed!!

    I ruptured my Achilles tendon 14 months ago. When I started physical therapy my ankle with lock on the right side by that bone and so they would have to massage it manipulated so it would not be locked. In the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing cramps in my right calf and it's locking on the right side around that bone. What might be causing this and do I go back to ortho or who?

    Tore my achilles in January of this year playing basketball. Pushed off my foot wrong I guess. It’s pretty incredible that’s it’s not that painful for how bad an injury it is. Rolling an ankle felt much worse. Going the no surgery route. I’m able to walk now, albeit very slowly and with a limp but progress is progress. I’m 33, so my pickup bball days may be done. On to horse 🤣
